Mon, 20 May 2013 16:12:43 -0700 New York Mets struggling 1B Ike Davis was dropped to sixth in the lineup Monday, May 20, after his week-long trial in the cleanup spot was up. 2B Daniel Murphy is remaining in the leadoff spot against the Cincinnati Reds. Murphy hit the go-ahead home run in the leadoff spot for the first time this year Sunday, May 19. Murphy has an eight-game hitting streak. Davis went 1-for-24 in six games back in the cleanup spot last week. OF Rick Ankiel will hit second for the first time. Fantasy Tip: The Mets are considering demoting Davis to the minor leagues if he doesn't turn it around very soon, so you should be at the point where you are considering cutting him from your team, too, especially if you're in a shallow mixed league.
Mon, 13 May 2013 13:20:48 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins said OF Rick Ankiel will start in center field against right-handed pitchers and OF Juan Lagares will receive starts against lefties. Fantasy Tip: Ankiel's high strikeout totals combined with minimal playing time limit him only to NL leagues for the time being.
Mon, 13 May 2013 13:07:43 -0700 New York Mets OF Rick Ankiel is starting in center field Monday, May 13. Fantasy Tip: The Mets aren't wasting any time trying to infuse some life into their outfield bats. Ankile will strike out plenty but offers long-ball potential for fantasy teams lacking power numbers.
Mon, 13 May 2013 12:55:59 -0700 The New York Mets optioned OF Andrew Brown to the minors Monday, May 13, to make room on the active roster for OF Rick Ankiel.
Mon, 13 May 2013 12:51:43 -0700 The New York Mets will sign free-agent OF Rick Ankiel (Astros), and he'll join the team Monday, May 13, according to a source. Fantasy Tip: The Mets have been lacking an outfielder with true pop, other than the inconsistent Lucas Duda. Ankiel will give them that, but he'll also strike out plenty and ruin your team's batting average. It's unclear how much he'll play, but he figures to bump Mike Baxter and Juan Lagares out of playing time. Ankiel is an option if you're desperate for some home runs and can live with an abysmal BA.
Mon, 13 May 2013 12:13:34 -0700 The New York Mets are talking with free-agent OF Rick Ankiel (Astros) about a potential deal. Fantasy Tip: The Mets outfield hasn't been getting it done this year, and Collin Cowgill was already sent down to the minors. Ankiel could provide some much needed thump, but his swing-and-miss ways limit him severely in fantasy circles. He shouldn't be much more than depth in NL-only leagues if he signs with New York.
Thu, 09 May 2013 13:41:38 -0700 The Houston Astros released OF Rick Ankiel Thursday, May 9. Fantasy Tip: Ankiel was striking out way too much to be successful for the Astros in an outfield that already contained too many K's. He could catch on with another team as outfield depth, but he likely won't see another starting role.
Mon, 06 May 2013 15:14:24 -0700 The Houston Astros activated OF J.D. Martinez (knee) from the disabled list and recalled OFs Trevor Crowe and Jimmy Paredes from the minors Monday, May 6. In corresponding moves, OFs Rick Ankiel and Fernando Martinez were designated for assignment. Fantasy Tip: Houston clearly wasn't going to put up with Ankiel's all-or-nothing style of offensive production, which usually resulted more in nothing than anything. It's unclear exactly how Crowe, Paredes and J.D. Martinez will be utilized in the outfield alongside Brandon Barnes and Chris Carter. Martinez probably has the most upside of the three, though, but he's not worth spending any money on just yet in mixed leagues.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 11:24:25 -0700 The Houston Astros have purchased the contracts of OF Rick Ankiel and SP Erik Bedard.
Thu, 28 Feb 2013 13:55:14 -0800 Houston Astros OF Rick Ankiel homered Thursday, Feb. 28, and is 6-for-9 this spring with 12 total bases.
