Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said he'd like to see former St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa manage the 2012 All-Star Game. The team whose manager goes to the World Series the previous year manages the All-Star Game the following year. La Russa said in an in-depth interview on Studio 42 with Bob Costas that he wouldn't lobby to manage the game but would consider it if Selig asked him.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa retires 35 wins behind John McGraw for second place all-time in managerial wins. "I'm aware of the history of the game," La Russa said in his press conference Monday, Oct. 31. "But I wouldn't be happy if the reason I came back was to move up one spot. That isn't why you manage. It isn't to acquire wins."

The St. Louis Cardinals have scheduled a press conference for 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31. There is no word on what it has been called for, but it's extremely unlikely that the team has struck a deal with free-agent-to-be 1B Albert Pujols. It's probable that the team has exercised C Yadier Molina's option, and manager Tony La Russa could be announcing his return for 2012.
