Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker acknowledged both SS Paul Janish and SS Edgar Renteria have struggled at the plate as of late. Janish entered Saturday, May 21, in a 1-for-22 funk, while Renteria was in a 2-for-29 skid. "It's going to happen. We could have won some games without their offense," Baker said. "Every team has somebody struggling. You can talk about it and think about it. I'd rather try to help figure out how to play their way out of it."

"If you give this guy a chance, he'll throw you out," Baker said. "It's the old adage: You don't steal on the catcher; you steal on the pitcher."

The Cincinnati Reds agreed to a two-year contract extension with manager Dusty Baker Friday, Oct. 1, but the deal will not be officially announced until after the season, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman. The deal is believed to be worth close to $8 million. Baker guided the team to their first playoff appearance in 15 years this season.
