Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker has put his health issues behind him. He suffered a minor stroke and irregular heartbeat in September. He lost 20 pounds during the 11 days he was absent from the team, and he has kept the weight off. "I'm just watching what I eat," Baker said Tuesday, Feb. 12. "I can eat what I want, but eat less of it. No salt, which I've been on a long time. (I've had) minimal alcohol intake. It was easy this winter, but we hadn't lost a couple of games. I have to make sure I get my rest, work out, enjoy life and try not to stress out."

Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker and general manager Walt Jocketty met Friday, Oct. 12, but Baker's contract situation was not resolved. The sides will meet again next week. "There was no breakdown," Jocketty said. "You just don't work out a contract in a few hours. These things take time." Jocketty wouldn't say whether the Reds had offered Baker a contract.

Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker indicated Friday, Oct. 5, that he will be back to manage the club in the 2013 season. "The way I look (at) it we're going to get (even) better the more mature these guys get," Baker said. "We've got a bunch of guys still learning how to hit and how to play." Baker suffered a mini-stroke late in the regular season, but is back and thankful to be healthy.
