Detroit Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon had told 3B Miguel Cabrera his hands were too high for a few days but Cabrera couldn't quite make the adjustment at the plate. After some physical adjustment Cabrera's new stance paid off. Cabrera had two hits in the second inning and finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs, snapping an 0-for-14 slump at the plate Thursday, May 10, in a 10-6 win over the Oakland Athletics.

Mariners | To interview Lloyd McClendon

Tigers | Coaching staff to return

The Detroit Tigers' entire coaching staff will be returning for the 2011 season, which includes hitting coach Lloyd McClendon, pitching coach Rick Knapp, first base coach Tom Brookens, third base coach Gene Lamont, bullpen coach Jeff Jones and infield coach Rafael Belliard, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Updating previous reports, USAToday.com reports that Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland, hitting coach Lloyd McClendon, SP Jeremy Bonderman and C Gerald Laird were each fined undisclosed amounts by Major League Baseball for their actions in a game against the Minnesota Twins Thursday, Oct. 1.

The Detroit News' Lynn Henning reports Detroit Tigers DH Gary Sheffield spent some extended time with hitting coach Lloyd McClendon and adjusted his swing. He hit two homers Wednesday, March 11. "He was stinging the ball loud today in batting practice," Leyland said. "He has his hands up higher to start with, so he can take the bat right to the ball. Obviously, today he looked pretty good."

Tigers | Inge hoping to turn things around at the plate

Lynn Herring, of The Detroit News, reports Detroit Tigers 3B Brandon Inge has been working with hitting coach Lloyd McClendon and believes he has eliminated some bad mechanics in his swing. Inge said he can already see the difference in his swing compared to last season.
