The Colorado Rockies hired former Oakland Athletics SS Walt Weiss Wednesday, Nov. 7, to replace manager Jim Tracy, who resigned Oct. 7 with one year and $1.4 million left on his contract rather than return. A team spokesman said Weiss would be introduced at a news conference Friday, Nov. 9, at Coors Field.

San Diego Padres special assistant Brad Ausmus, along with former MLB managers Jim Tracy and Manny Acta, are not expected to be in contention for the Toronto Blue Jays' managerial vacancy. However, Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach, Baltimore Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale, Cleveland Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr., Blue Jays bench coach Don Wakamatsu and Blue Jays third base coach Brian Butterfield are still believed to be in the running.

The Colorado Rockies have put off making a decision on manager Jim Tracy's future until Monday, Oct. 8 at the earliest. It is understood the team wants to bring Tracy back but on its terms, such as making changes in the coaching staff.

After several hours of discussion Friday, Oct. 5, there was no resolution on the future of Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy. He and Bill Geivett, the Rockies' director of major league operations, will continue discussions Saturday, with a decision expected soon. Tracy is under contract for $1.4 million next season and could be reassigned in a special assistant role if not brought back as manager.
