Braves | New TV duo hired

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Tim Tucker reports FSN South and SportSouth, both owned by Fox, hired veteran Atlanta Braves broadcaster Joe Simpson and former Florida Marlins broadcaster Jon Sciambi to call the 80 Braves games that will air next season on the two regional sports cable channels. Sciambi, who will do play-by-play, and Simpson, who will be the analyst, will replace last season's tandem of Bob Rathbun and Jeff Torborg on the Fox stations' Braves telecasts. Simpson also will continue to call games on TBS, as his new deal with Turner Sports calls for him to work at least 50 Braves games on TBS next season.

Yankees | Torborg To Join Coaching Staff?

The New York Times reports former Florida Marlins manager Jeff Torborg may be a candidate to come aboard as a coach if owner George Steinbrenner dismisses someone from manager Joe Torre's coaching staff. Torborg has already had conversations with Steinbrenner about an appointment.

Updating a previous story, Juan Rodriguez of The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports the Florida Marlins also dismissed pitching coach Brad Arnsberg on Saturday. The team also fired manager Jeff Torborg and replaced him with veteran skipper Jack McKeon.

Updating a previous story, Clark Spencer of The Miami Herald confirms Jeff Torborg was fired as manager of the Florida Marlins and replaced by former Reds and Padres manager Jack McKeon. Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria and general manager Larry Beinfest informed Torborg of the decision following the team's 5-4 loss Saturday to the Colorado Rockies.

Marlins | Burnett Playing Blame Game?

The AP reports Florida Marlins pitcher A.J. Burnett (elbow), out for 12-18 months after having Tommy John surgery, hinted Thursday that Florida Marlins management might have withheld information from him about his health - angering general manager Larry Beinfest. Burnett disputed the theory that manager Jeff Torborg and pitching coach Brad Arnsberg are to blame for overworking him, but he did say other members of the front-office staff may have known about his elbow problems last year and didn't say anything.

Marlins | Pitching Coach May Be In Danger

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Florida Marlins pitching coach Brad Arnsberg's job isn't in immediate danger, but that could change. ESPN analyst Peter Gammons reported that team president David Samson wanted Arnsberg fired during spring training. According to the story, manager Jeff Torborg refused, but remains under pressure to make a switch. Torborg's job may also be in jeopardy if he doesn't comply.

The Florida Marlins are concerned reliever Vladimir Nunez may have been tipping pitches, writes The Miami Herald's Clark Spencer. The coaching staff took Núñez aside in an attempt to iron out some flaws in his delivery after the reliever was roughed up in Atlanta. Núñez and manager Jeff Torborg suspected he was tipping his pitches after Andruw Jones and Vinny Castilla homered off him in a 12-7 loss last week.

Juan Rodriguez of The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Florida Marlins manager Jeff Torborg did some heavy-duty roster switching Wednesday. Torborg flip-flopped slumping Luis Castillo and Juan Pierre, his first and second hitters, and moved Juan Encarnacion from sixth to cleanup while dropping Derrek Lee to sixth. The changes paid off as the Marlins edged the New York Mets 3-2.
