Pirates | Jordy Mercer top option at shortstop

Mon, 17 Jun 2013 17:08:07 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SS Jordy Mercer is going to get most of the starts at shortstop for the foreseeable future, according to manager Clint Hurdle. "Mercer is going to get some reps here because of the quality of his (defensive) play and the way he is swinging the bat," Hurdle said. "It's playing the guy that is obviously taking care of both sides of the ball very professionally. … I've spoken to Clint as well so he doesn't wonder when he's coming in. It won't just be for a game; we'll try to bundle (Barmes) for a few games, maybe some good matchups."

Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on the Pirates lineup, but it appears you can safely start Mercer moving forward, as long as he keeps up the strong play that earned him starting time.
