Despite having a .256 batting average, .297 on-base percentage, and .778 on-base plus slugging mark, well below his career averages of .291, .341, and .826, Philadelphia Phillies coaches do not plan to tinker with OF Hunter Pence's mechanics. In essence, they leave him alone. "Hunter chases bad balls at times," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "He's different from any hitter I've ever had... We don't want to confuse him, we don't want to get him out of sync with his thinking. The way that he approaches hitting, he will always swing at balls out of the strike zone."

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Jim Thome may receive a start at first base this weekend. Manager Charlie Manuel considered starting Thome Thursday, April 19, but he had never faced the opposing pitcher before.

The Philadelphia Phillies announced all of manager Charlie Manuel's coaches will return for the 2012 season. Rich Dubee (pitching), Greg Gross (hitting), Pete Mackanin (bench), Sam Perlozzo (first base), Juan Samuel (third base), Mick Billmeyer (bullpen), and bullpen catcher Jesus Tiamo will keep their respective positions.

Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said he intends to change the team's offensive approach for the 2012 season. Manuel will stress making opposing pitchers show all of their pitches by being selective at the plate and not chasing bad balls.
