Rams | Bush Takes Pay Cut

Thu, 24 May 2001 10:26:30 -0700

SportsLine.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the St. Louis Rams have reworked the contract of S Devin Bush. Bush has agreed to reduce his base salary this year from $1.95 million to $500,000. He'll still receive an off-season workout bonus of $50,000 and the Rams have given him a $100,000 roster bonus that will be paid on the first day of training camp. The Rams have saved $1.35 million under the salary cap this year. Next season, Bush agreed to have his base salary reduced to $500,000. He was scheduled to earn $2.05 million. However, that doesn't assure him a roster spot next year as he has a roster bonus of $1.6 million due in March so the team may ask him to restructure again next year or simply cut him.

Rams | Free Agent Visit

Tue, 20 Mar 2001 01:06:27 -0800

The Arizona Republic reports Arizona Cardinals restricted free agent S Pat Tillman visited the St. Louis Rams on Monday. If he were to sign an offer sheet, the Cardinals would have seven days to match or receive a seventh-round draft pick as compensation. The Rams don't have a seventh rounder this year, so they may have to part with a sixth round pick. The Rams still have Devin Bush and Rich Coady as their safeties, but they could be looking for someone cheaper than Bush ($2.4 million cap hit for 2001) and more experienced than Coady.

Rams | Looking For Space

Sun, 18 Feb 2001 19:43:31 -0800

Jim Thomas of the Post Dispatch reports for the Sporting News the St. Louis Rams naming of DE Kevin Carter as their franchise player will put them about $500,000 over the salary cap. The team needs to cut or restructure a few players to have enough cap space to tender their restricted free agents including LB London Fletcher, WR Az-Zahir Hakim and TE Roland Williams. Cutting DL Ray Agnew, LB Todd Collins and DT D'Marco Farr would save about $4.5 million of cap space and they are three prime candidates to be released. S Devin Bush may be restructured and OC Steve Everitt may be released.
