Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia doesn't appear to be on the hot seat, and his contract with the team runs through the 2018 season. However, after the firing of hitting coach Mickey Hatcher, it's clear that general manager Jerry Dipoto has control of most of the major decisions of the club.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim intend on sticking with CL Scott Downs as the stopper, although there will be times where he is used earlier in games to set up RP Ernesto Frieri for the ninth inning. "It's not so much matching Scott up as it is matching the other guys up to game situations, and that's what will move around a little bit," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "But if we get to the ninth inning, there's no doubt that Scott is our primary guy."

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia has become ultra-sensitive to criticism and his handling of the team, and he's become more insecure, uptight and tense. One player on the team is calling it "Scioscia's stranglehold" on the team. Scioscia consistently changes the lineup and has been treating every player the same way. "I don't think we believe we're trying that hard. We're just going through the motions," OF Torii Hunter said.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Torii Hunter made some post-game comments Wednesday, April 25, that some have perceived to be a slight at manager Mike Scioscia. Scioscia didn't have IF Maicer Izturis bunt after Hunter and OF Vernon Wells singled to open the second inning. Asked if the game could have changed with some early execution, Hunter said, "You mean if we bunted in the second? What can we do? All we do is play the game."

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar was bumped from the leadoff spot to eighth in manager Mike Scioscia's lineup after his .190 start to the season. Aybar went 2-for-4 Thursday, April 19, against the Oakland Athletics.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim general manager Jerry Dipoto refuted a report that manager Mike Scioscia has final decisions in all player-personnel decisions. "No truth," Dipoto said flatly. "It has been portrayed to me directly by (owner) Arte Moreno, (team president) John Carpino and Mike Scioscia that I have final say in personnel decisions pending ownership approval."

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim owner Arte Moreno said manager Mike Scioscia "is our manager - he's not our general manager." Moreno did say that Scioscia does have in matters regarding the organization, but nothing more than a typical manager of long standing and proven success.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim may use SP Jered Weaver again on three days' rest as the regular season winds down, in an effort to gain some advantage. Manager Mike Scioscia indicated Weaver may not be the only pitcher to get this treatment.
