It was not something they had repaired before. They don't know if it is something he did (recently) throwing the ball or if it was already there." If doctors do clear Tim Couch again, his brother believes he will try one more comeback attempt.

Now Tim Couch waits to see if he can just rest the injury or if it requires more surgery. If the verdict comes back that Couch will need another surgery, it's possible that could end his football career for good.

NFL | Teams could Pursue Couch

Thu, 21 Jul 2005 16:49:54 -0700

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports free agent QB Tim Couch (Packers) recently underwent Lasik eye surgery. Couch has not thrown a pass in a regular-season game since Dec. 28, 2003, against the Cincinnati Bengals. Couch had a throwing session Wednesday, July 20, and if that is any indication of his recovery from shoulder surgery, an NFL team may look to sign him. "He's young, he had a great surgeon, he's got a great body, and has been pretty [diligent] in his rehabilitation," said Lisa Kearns, a physical therapist and exercise physiologist for SportFit Rehab and Training. "I would think that, with the way he's going, it's just a matter of a few more weeks until he's far enough along to demonstrate that he can play in the league," Kearns said. "I mean, he really has been problem-free." More importantly, Couch is also pain free. Couch registered just more than 100 passes at the workout yesterday. Pasquarelli's opinion is it would be surprising if Couch is not ready to work out sometime in the next month. And just as surprising, maybe, if he is not on an NFL roster at some juncture of the 2005 season.

Packers | Gain Cap Room After Settlement With Couch

Tue, 19 Jul 2005 21:53:13 -0700

Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers have recouped $214,206 in salary cap space this season after reaching a grievance settlement with former QB Tim Couch. Under NFL rules, the Packers immediately were forced to count 50 percent of the player's base salary, which in Couch's case was $625,000, upon receipt of the grievance. Thus, when the grievance was filed Sept. 24 of last year, the Packers were charged $312,500 against their cap. The $214,206 was added to the Packers' cap room this year as a credit for the hit they were forced to absorb in 2004. Couch contended that the Packers released him Sept. 5 when his throwing arm was injured. However, he played 12 snaps in an exhibition game against the Tennessee Titans two days before being cut. Terms of the settlement are confidential. It is believed, however, that Couch received just under $100,000 as his part of the deal.
