Kansas City Chiefs RB Thomas Jones is listed as the starter over RB Jamaal Charles because Jones has proven himself over a full season, according to head coach Todd Haley, reports The Kansas City Star's Adam Teicher. "What he did last year … it was an eight-game window or an eight-game sample that we saw," Haley said of Charles. "What we're pushing Jamaal to do is show that he can do that throughout a 16-game and hopefully-plus schedule. That's something that Thomas has proven through time." Charles has rushed nine times for 63 yards in two preseason games while Jones has 10 rushes for just 31 yards.

Head coach Todd Haley said he believes that will continue for the foreseeable future, too, but added that he shouldn't be held to the depth chart at this time. He has indicated both backs will see enough work to keep them happy.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley said that RB Thomas Jones probably will continue to work with the starters before RB Jamaal Charles will during practice but that the team will use whoever they believe gives them the best chance to win, reports Adam Teicher, of The Kansas City Star. "They both want to be the starter," Haley said. "There's no doubt about that. Somebody's got to start. That's just the way it is. We'll do our due diligence. We'll play the guy that gives us the best chance to win on that particular day, that particular series, that particular half, whatever it is. I will not be shy in making sure the guy that I think is running the best at a particular time is in there."

The battle between Kansas City Chiefs RBs Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones during training camp will be one of the more intriguing ones for the Chiefs, writes Adam Teicher, of The Kansas City Star. Both had over 1,000 yards rushing last year, so it will be interesting to see how much playing time each player receives. Both will have a role in the offense, but the Chiefs need to be mindful that Jones will turn 32 soon and Charles doesn't have the size to be an every-down back.

Adam Teicher, of The Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Thomas Jones said his goal is to help the team win and does not care how many carries he will receive. "I'm here to help the team win. If I get five carries, I get five carries. If I get 25 carries, then I get 25 carries. All I can do at this point is prepare for the season like I have always done. That is how I play and that is how I have looked at my career. I will continue to look at my career like that," Jones said.
