The Detroit Lions have officially announced the release of OL Ross Verba.

Mike O'Hara, of the Detroit News, reports the Detroit Lions have been actively trying to trade OL Ross Verba and would like to complete a deal before Friday, March 2, due to a roster bonus Verba will receive if he remains with the team by that date. If the Lions are unable to trade him before then, the team will likely release him instead of pay the bonus.

Updating a previous item, Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions OG Ross Verba will likely not return to the team for the 2007 season. Verba has already received permission to seek a trade. When asked if that meant Verba would not return next season, head coach Rod Marinelli said, "Probably."

The Associated Press reports Detroit Lions OG Ross Verba has been arrested on a felony warrant for writing bad checks in Nevada. A state trooper arrested Verba after pulling over a vehicle for speeding. Authorities said Verba was a passenger in the vehicle and was cooperative throughout the process. The trooper learned Verba had a felony arrest warrant from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the bad check unit of the Clark County, Nev., district attorney's office. Verba spent the night in jail and was released Wednesday, Jan. 3, after Nevada authorities lifted a hold on him. Verba had resolved a misunderstanding regarding an outstanding debt with a Las Vegas establishment.
