Jets | Josh McCown still at the helm

Tue, 14 Nov 2017 06:08:51 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown will remain the starting quarterback when the team returns from its Week 11 bye, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: With bye weeks nearly in the rearview mirror, McCown's roster viability is pretty marginal in fantasy.

New York Jets QB Josh McCown went 23-for-39 for 262 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10.

Jets | Josh McCown could remain in NY in 2018

Wed, 08 Nov 2017 18:30:55 -0800

New York Jets QB Josh McCown could return to the team next season, as suggested by general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Fantasy Tip: There's no question that McCown has exceeded any and all expectations in his first year with the Jets, especially since he was merely supposed to be a bridge quarterback. The 38-year-old has been enjoying a renaissance season, posting a 96.1 QB Rating, which would be the second-highest of his career if it holds, but owners shouldn't invest too much into the longtime journeyman. Sooner than later, it seems likely McCown will begin to regress towards his norm.

Jets | Josh McCown efficient in victory

Thu, 02 Nov 2017 22:12:35 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown attempted 20 passes, completing 14 of them for 140 yards and a touchdown during the team's Week 9 win over the Buffalo Bills. McCown added 13 yards and a touchdown as a runner.

Fantasy Tip: McCown was in full game manager mode Thursday night, throwing for a season-low 140 yards in the process. He did account for multiple TDs for the fifth straight game, though, so he at least deserves a roster spot as a QB2.

Jets | Josh McCown throws for 257 yards

Sun, 29 Oct 2017 13:46:26 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown went 26-for-33 for 257 yards and two touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has thrown for at least two touchdowns in each of the last four games and has been a solid starting quarterback for the Jets this season. He will be facing a solid Buffalo Bills defense next week and probably should be kept on the bench.

Jets | Josh McCown fully practices

Thu, 26 Oct 2017 14:39:00 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (back) participated fully in practice Thursday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been an under-the-radar fantasy quarterback in 2017. The Jets have been forced to pass early and often frequently and McCown has held his own. In fact, he currently sits at the QB10 spot through seven weeks. Don't be afraid to plug him into your starting lineup, especially if byes and/or injuries abound at the position.

Jets | Josh McCown already has franchise history

Wed, 25 Oct 2017 18:04:03 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown is the second quarterback in franchise history, joining retired QB Al Dorow, to have at least three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in the same game, pulling off this feat in Week 7 on Sunday, Oct. 22, against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been everything the Jets could have hoped for when they signed him over the offseason, registering a 91.5 QB Rating through the first seven games of the campaign. However, he's really just a streaming option for most leagues, and a solid QB2 option in formats that employ two quarterbacks.

Jets | Josh McCown has full practice

Wed, 25 Oct 2017 14:58:47 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (back) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has really held his own in what has been a relatively lackluster Jets offense. New York will likely be forced to pass early and often versus the Atlanta Falcons this weekend, making McCown a reasonable starting option considering all the bye weeks.

Jets | Josh McCown tosses three TDs

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 18:28:18 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown completed 17 of his 27 pass attempts for 209 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins. He also ran for a 1-yard touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: McCown isn't someone to rely upon as a regular in most fantasy formats, but he isn't a terrible streaming option when you need a bye-week replacement. The Jets host the Falcons in Week 8.

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 13:58:37 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown went 31-for-47 for 354 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions against the New England Patriots in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has thrown for four touchdowns and three interceptions over the last two games and has played well this season. He will be facing the Miami Dolphins in Week 7 and could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in very deep leagues.

Fri, 13 Oct 2017 15:45:59 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 13, and is not on the injury report for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been a decent starting quarterback for the Jets this season and can have some success against the New England Patriots this week. He could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues or a bye week replacement.

Jets | Josh McCown practices

Thu, 12 Oct 2017 13:03:13 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been a solid starter for the Jets this season but has thrown for over 200 yards in only two games this season. McCown could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues because the New England Patriots pass defense has struggled during the early part of the season.

Jets | Josh McCown practices in full

Wed, 11 Oct 2017 15:10:23 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (shoulder) was able to take part in a full practice session Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Fantasy Tip: McCown appears to be in line to start Week 6 against the New England Patriots. His season high in passing yardage is just 249, he has managed five touchdown strikes and just two interceptions over his past four games. He could have a surprising day against a poor Patriots defense, so consider him as a streaming option if you're desperate due to bye weeks. He also makes for a nice low-priced DFS target.

New York Jets QB Josh McCown went 23-for-30 for 194 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Cleveland Browns in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: McCown continues to be a solid starter for the Jets and has five touchdowns in the last four games. He will be facing the New England Patriots next week, but owners probably have better options to use in their lineup.

Jets | Josh McCown fully practices

Thu, 05 Oct 2017 12:27:00 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 5.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been a decent quarterback for the Jets this season but has only thrown for three touchdowns in four games this season. Owners in all leagues should be able to find better options and can avoid McCown even though he has a favorable matchup.

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (shoulder) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has done a decent job as the Jets starting quarterback but has only thrown three touchdowns in four games. He will have a favorable matchup this week but probably should only be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 14:39:46 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown went 22-for-31 for 224 yards and one interception against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has been a decent quarterback for the Jets this season but has not thrown for at least 250 yards in any game. He will be facing the Cleveland Browns next week but would only be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in very deep leagues.

Jets | Josh McCown ready for Week 4

Fri, 29 Sep 2017 18:31:01 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (ribs) was a full participant in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and he is not listed on the Week 4 injury report.

Fantasy Tip: McCown hasn't been terrible, but he is barely averaging 200 passing yards per game. Facing a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that has been putting the heat on opposing quarterbacks this season, McCown doesn't need to be on your radar.

New York Jets QB Josh McCown (ribs) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

Jets | Josh McCown turns in solid Week 3 effort

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 14:15:21 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown completed 18 of his 23 passes for 249 yards, including a 69-yard TD pass to WR Robby Anderson, in a 20-6 win Sunday, Sept. 24, against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: It was a strong effort, but McCown is still a risky option who may be best as a flex QB, especially with the surprisingly hot Jacksonville Jaguars on tap for Week 4. If he can put a dent in Jacksonville's efforts, then McCown may rise up the charts a bit.

Jets | Josh McCown picked off three times

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 15:25:30 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown threw three interceptions, one on a two-point conversion, and he finished 26-for-37 for 189 yards in a 21-12 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Can you say mess? The Jets' QB situation is muddy at best, and this means avoid McCown like the plague. A previous tip suggested McCown would be best as a bye-week replacement, but games like Sunday make that even shaky.

Jets | Josh McCown averts crisis, plays decent

Thu, 31 Aug 2017 19:23:20 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown had to leave the game briefly in the final preseason game Thursday, August 31, against the Philadelphia Eagles when he was hit in the midsection by LB Joe Walker. Despite needing medical help on the field, McCown was able to walk off under his own power and returned one play later. Overall for the evening, he was 6-of-8 for 57 yards.

Fantasy Tip: McCown had himself a fine preseason, ultimately finishing 9-of-12 for 129 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. It's no surprise that he'll be under center for the Jets in Week 1, but simply put, he shouldn't be under center for any fantasy teams whatsoever in the opening week. He's nothing more than a bye-week replacement, and even then, it's a stretch to deploy him considering the Jets' woeful lack of depth around him.

Jets | Josh McCown named starter

Mon, 28 Aug 2017 13:14:04 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown has been named the Week 1 starting quarterback by head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Not much of a surprise considering the play by Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty. It was McCown's job to lose and he has experience and leadership on his side. The Jets will have to pass plenty in 2017 in order to keep up with teams, but that doesn't mean McCown is a reliable starting fantasy quarterback. He's merely a bye-week replacement.

Jets | NYJ starting QB to be named next week

Mon, 21 Aug 2017 16:00:34 -0700

New York Jets QBs Josh McCown and Christian Hackenberg have been competing for the starting quarterback job during training camp, and head coach Todd Bowles said he will name the starting quarterback Monday, Aug. 28.

Fantasy Tip: McCown probably is considered the leading candidate at this point after Hackenberg struggled in the second preseason game. Owners in all leagues should avoid the Jets quarterback no matter who is starting.

Jets | Two Jets QBs split snaps

Thu, 17 Aug 2017 15:16:37 -0700

New York Jets QBs Josh McCown and Christian Hackenberg split snaps with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: McCown and Hackenberg appears to be competing for the starting quarterback with McCown probably having an edge because of his experience. Owners in all fantasy leagues should avoid the winner of this competition.

Jets | Bryce Petty not receiving many snaps

Wed, 02 Aug 2017 19:13:45 -0700

Jets | Josh McCown working with starters

Sat, 29 Jul 2017 12:25:12 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown is receiving the first snaps with the starting offense during practice Saturday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: McCown likely is the leading candidate for the starting quarterback job but will have to compete with Christian Hackenberg for the job. He has had some success during his career but will be playing with a young receiving corps this season. He probably should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Jets | Josh McCown losing grip on starting gig?

Sun, 18 Jun 2017 17:13:09 -0700

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg made some strides during minicamp, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post, and Costello believes Hackenberg could beat out QB Josh McCown to be the Week 1 starter.

Fantasy Tip: With a young, unproven group of receivers, don't expect much fantasy value from whoever ends up under center for the Jets this season.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg making a move?

Fri, 16 Jun 2017 12:39:20 -0700

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg performed a "little better than expected" in minicamp, and QB Josh McCown does not have an "insurmountable lead" over him in the race to start Week 1. QB Bryce Petty is running third on the depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: As ESPN's Rich Cimini suggests, this position and the Jets' offense is general will likely be a disaster for fantasy purposes. All three quarterbacks can be ignored in drafts this summer.

Jets | No favorite among Jets quarterbacks

Thu, 15 Jun 2017 16:18:20 -0700

New York Jets QBs Josh McCown, Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty are in a genuine quarterback competition, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said so far there is no frontrunner for the starting position and that the quarterback battle will be sorted out during training camp.

Fantasy Tip: McCown would be the most beneficial from a fantasy standpoint. Even if Bowles doesn't call McCown the favorite, McCown's experience and leadership probably give him an edge. Even so, McCown has topped 2,500 yards only once in his 14-year career and has never thrown more than 13 touchdowns in a season. He can be avoided.

Jets | Christian Hackenberg to start sooner than later?

Thu, 08 Jun 2017 23:40:41 -0700

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg will likely take over from QB Josh McCown sometime early in the 2017 season, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini, who says that Hackenberg will start "at least 10 games" in the upcoming season.

Fantasy Tip: It's painfully obvious the Jets are throwing in the towel on 2017, and while Todd Bowles likes McCown to help the other skill players transition to a West Coast offense, there's no reason for the veteran to remain under center long term as the team needs to get a read on what they have (or don't have) with Hackenberg. As a rookie, Hackenberg clearly wasn't ready, but it sounds like management wants to get an extended look at last year's second-round pick. It shouldn't matter much for fantasy owners as the Jets QB situation is a wasteland.

Jets | Josh McCown has advantage in QB competition

Sun, 04 Jun 2017 13:12:28 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown has an advantage over QBs Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty in the competition for the starting quarterback job because he is familiar with the West Coast offense, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles also said he expects Hackenberg to play at some point.

Fantasy Tip: McCown should win the starting job during training camp and will have some decent weapons to work with in the passing game. McCown has had some success during his career but should be avoided in all fantasy leagues. Hackenberg probably will see playing time if the Jets are eliminated from playoff contention but does not have much fantasy value.

Jets | Josh McCown 'best QB' at OTAs

Tue, 30 May 2017 09:43:55 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown has been "far and away" best quarterback at OTAs, according to NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes.

Fantasy Tip: This is not a surprising development, as McCown has been around the block a few times, while Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg are projects who may or may not have much of an NFL future. McCown has a poor track record of staying healthy, however, so either Patty and/or Hackenberg will probably make some starts in 2017 as the Jets hope to remain in position to select their long-term answer at the position in the 2018 draft.

Jets | Josh McCown expected to be Week 1 starter

Sat, 27 May 2017 09:43:44 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown is the "heavy favorite" to be named the starting quarterback even though the team plans on having an open competition, giving McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg an equal amount of practice reps, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Fantasy Tip: McCown has not shown much durability throughout his long career, so it might not matter much anyway. In reality, there's a decent chance all three players may log starts in 2017. Don't be surprised if Hackenberg ends up getting the most, if only so the Jets can see what they have in him before investing what figures to be a top-five pick into another college signal-caller. None of the three warrant a fantasy draft pick this summer.

Jets | Equal opportunity for Jets' quarterbacks

Tue, 23 May 2017 12:56:40 -0700

New York Jets QBs Josh McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg will be given equal first-team repetitions during organized team activities, according to offensive coordinator John Morton.

Fantasy Tip: McCown is by far the most experienced quarterback in this group. He has the most fantasy upside, too. The veteran isn't close to QB1 territory, but he may be a valuable bye-week replacement if the matchup is right.

Jets | Josh McCown expects competition

Wed, 03 May 2017 13:25:28 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown said he expects to compete with QBs Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty for the starting quarterback job.

Fantasy Tip: McCown will be the favorite for the job because of his experience, so he would need a bad training camp and preseason to lose the job. He will have some decent weapons to work with on offense but should not be more than a low-end No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Jets | New York will have QB competition

Tue, 02 May 2017 16:56:16 -0700

New York Jets QBs Josh McCown, Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty will compete for the starting quarterback position this offseason, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: The veteran McCown is the best bet to win the starting gig, but he will turn 38 years old in July and has only played in 13 games the last two seasons. Whoever starts for the Jets can be avoided in all formats.

Jets | Josh McCown not guaranteed starting job

Fri, 24 Mar 2017 12:00:14 -0700

New York Jets QB Josh McCown has not been assured that he will begin training camp as starter, and it is a decision which will be made by head coach Todd Bowles, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets are "highly unlikely" to add another free-agent quarterback per Maccagnan, but he acknowledged drafting another one is a possibility. McCown should still be considered the odds-on favorite, but he will turn 38 in July and has never played a full season. In short, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg should expect to make starts this season. It's going to be hard for fantasy owners to find any value in this passing game in 2017.

Jets | Josh McCown signing with Jets

Mon, 20 Mar 2017 16:17:23 -0700

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Browns) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the New York Jets Monday, March 20, according to his agent. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: McCown likely becomes the leading candidate to be the starting quarterback for the Jets in 2017. He has had some success over the last few years but was limited to six games played in 2016 and finished with 1,100 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions. McCown will have a solid receiving corps to work with in New York but probably can be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Jets | Josh McCown finishes visit with Jets

Sun, 19 Mar 2017 13:26:52 -0700

Free-agent QB Josh McCown (Browns) finished his visit with the New York Jets Sunday, March 19, but did not reach an agreement on a contract. The two sides will continue to talk but no deal is imminent.

Fantasy Tip: McCown spent the weekend with the Jets and appears to have a decent chance to sign with New York if the two sides can work out a deal. McCown probably would be the starting quarterback if he signs with the Jets but would only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.
