The Giants released C Shaun O'Hara and OG Rich Seubert, declined to re-sign LB Chase Blackburn and let TE Kevin Boss and WR Steve E. Smith leave via free agency. "Some other guys I played with, sweat with and bled with, I don't think it was right, the way things went down with them," Cofield said. "A guy that's been there for 10 years like Rich gets hurt and you fire him? That's the best way to put it. And don't forget about Osi (Umenyiora). I don't think that's right either."

He will soon undergo another surgery to repair damage in his left ankle and Achilles'. According to the source familiar with O'Hara's situation, doctors decided to put the screw in the foot first to make sure that heals properly. O'Hara's timetable for a recovery isn't completely clear, but the source said the hope is he would be ready for the start of the spring minicamp in June.

O'Hara is set to have surgery to clean up an Achilles' problem which has bothered him since training camp. He has a bone chip embedded in his Achilles'. O'Hara is also battling a mid-foot sprain, although it is uncertain if he'll require corrective surgery for that ailment.
