Cincinnati Bengals TE Sean Brewer has lost 20-30 pounds during this off-season and has lowered his body fat by 10 percent in preparation for the 2003 season, according to Bengals.com. Brewer knows he's in a tough battle to win a roster spot this year. "It's do or die," Brewer said. Brewer is competing with TE Matt Schobel, TE Reggie Kelly and TE Tony Stewart in camp.

Geoff Hobson, writing for Bengals.com, reports the Cincinnati Bengals addition of first-year strength and conditioning coaches Chip Morton and Kurtis Shultz has led to a much fitter, healthier team. Even as the off-season conditioning program ends this week, players will be sent home with a 70-plus-page booklet that contains daily workouts, a nutrition guide, and position drills for the next five weeks. Bengals TE Sean Brewer and C Mike Goff have shown the greatest improvements so far.

"I love to stretch the middle ,” Brewer said. “My legs are getting a little juice right now and I’m trying to take it deep. I want to show them I’ve got the speed down the middle.” He made it through his sixth practice in a row earlier Wednesday, something he never did last season.

Chick Ludwig, of the Dayton Daily News, reports for the Sporting News, the Cincinnati Bengals have plenty of quantity at the tight end position, but are questionable on the quality. TEs Sean Brewer, Chris Edmunds, Kirk McMullen, and rookie Matt Schobel will be competing for the No. 1 roster spot during training camp. Brewer is described as a good blocker, who is injury prone. Edmunds, a converted linebacker, is big, fast, but raw as a blocker. He will likely be a candidate for the practice squad. Schobel has soft hands, runs a smooth route, though he needs to be able to block.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Cincinnati Bengals TE Sean Brewer (hamstring) returned to practice on Tuesday for the first time since Aug. 2. He’s projected as the team’s starting tight end this year. He said his hamstring felt good after taking part in some drills and a few plays. He did have an ice pack on the back of his right leg following the workouts. Team trainer Paul Sparling said Brewer is 2 to 3 weeks away from being 100 percent healthy.

Updating Thursday's reports, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports Cincinnati Bengals TE Sean Brewer is the man to beat out at tight end for the team. Brewer was promoted to the starting role on Thursday when the team released veteran TE Tony McGee. He had a groin injury during training camp last year and spent the year on injured reserve. Head coach Dick LeBeau said that Brewer is 100 percent healthy now. Rookie TE Matt Schobel is expected to challenge for the starting job.
