Former NFL RB Corey Dillon has been arrested in Calabasas, Calif., on allegations of spousal abuse, reports TMZ.com. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Dillon's estranged wife, Desiree, called police claiming she had been assaulted. She suffered minor injuries, according to the report. Police say the alleged assault occurred at their home during an argument over a pending divorce and child custody issues. Dillon was held on $50,000 bail and later released.

Dillon has been working out with a trainer at home for over a month, and the Patriots are filled with question marks in their backfield after reported injuries to RB Laurence Maroney (foot) and Kevin Faulk (head) in Week 11. However, Feldman said the team has yet to contact Dillon. "If they needed him, he'd be more than happy to come back and help," said Feldman. "At this point, they aren't in a position that they feel they need him."

Dillon will count $4.4 million against the salary cap next season. "I'm sure he'll figure everything out in the offseason," agent Steve Feldman said. The Associated Press reports New England Patriots RB Corey Dillon says he's not in competition with rookie RB Laurence Maroney and that there is plenty of room for both of them in the team's backfield. "There's no competition," Dillon said of what is expected to be a battle for the team's starting running back job. "We're here to help the team win, period. I don't care who's in there, me or him." After adjusting his offseason training, Dillon said he is healthy and fitter than in 2005, when he averaged a career-low 3.5 yards per carry and had a long gain of 29 yards. Dillon said he has dropped 4 pounds from last season, down to 231, and can see the difference already. Even if he isn't the starter, Maroney is expected to ease some of the burden on Dillon, who turns 32 in October.
