ESPN reports Tennessee Titans rookie QB Vince Young is the third quarterback since 1996 to be selected with the No. 3 overall pick. Previous selections include former NFL QB Akili Smith by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1999 and Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington in 2002.

Buccaneers.com reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Akili Smith shined for the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe during Week 5, completing 9 of 11 passes for 90 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Smith finished with a 131.1 passer rating, was not sacked and rushed twice for 21 yards.

Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage stressed the team will not get caught up in drafting a quarterback with their high first-round draft choice (No. 3 overall) if the player is not viewed as the best available and a good fit. "For every Peyton Manning, there was a Ryan Leaf," Savage said. "For every Donovan McNabb, there was a Tim Couch and Akili Smith. The air is thin up there and sometimes we don't get enough oxygen. I think it's proven that the quarterbacks come from anywhere. There is no science involved in that one."

Updating a previous report, according to Buccaneers.com, Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Akili Smith, currently allocated to the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe, has been named NFL Europe's Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2. Smith helped rally the Galaxy from a 14-0 deficit to a 23-14 victory over the Amsterdam Admirals by completing nine-of-12 passes for 95 yards and scoring on an eight-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Akili Smith, currently allocated to the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe, completed nine-of-12 passes for 95 yards in Week 2 of European play, reports TitansOnline.com. Smith also had a touchdown run during Frankfurt's 23-14 victory over the Amsterdam Admirals.

Buccaneers.com reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the market for another quarterback and could bolster the position via free agency or the NFL Draft. "Yes, we're looking for a veteran quarterback," said General Manager Bruce Allen. "Last year, we went to camp with four quarterbacks; three you could say were veteran quarterbacks, and a young Chris Simms. We'll probably do that again, and we're seriously looking at the draft for a quarterback." The club currently has QBs Brian Griese, Chris Simms and Akili Smith.
