Updating an earlier story, Geoff Hobson reports for Bengals.com Cincinnati Bengals OL Jamain Stephens had rotator cuff surgery Wednesday. He will now be out for the 2002 season. Bengals trainer Paul Sparling said Stephens suffered a complete tear of the rotator cuff and is looking at a recovery time of three to four months.

The Cincinnati Post reports Cincinnati Bengals OL Jamain Stephens will have arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder today. Depending on how it goes, he could miss anywhere from six weeks to the whole season.

Chick Ludwig, of the Dayton Daily News, reports for the Sporting News, that Cincinnati Bengals RB Corey Dillon is not finding much room to run and hasn't run for 100 yards in any of the last five games. However, the Bengals plan to use OT Jamain Stephens as a tight end with the hope that an extra massive blocker can help make holes for Dillon.

The Cincinnati Post reports Cincinnati Bengals backup OT Jamain Stephens strained his left hip at practice Thursday and did not finish practice. Trainer Paul Sparling said Stephens is probable to play at Jacksonville. Sparling said DT Tony Williams (mid-foot sprain) has been cleared medically and "it will come down to a coaching decision" whether or not he'll be active this weekend.

Geoff Hobson reports for Bengals.com Cincinnati Bengals WR Danny Farmer's hyperextended knee caused him to miss today's game. The team only dressed four WRs. QB Scott Mitchell was named the No. 3 QB for today's game behind starter Jon Kitna and No. 2 Akili Smith. The Bengals deactivated QB Scott Covington Sunday for the game, as well as RB Rudi Johnson, OL Jamain Stephens and Victor Leyva, WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh and DL Mario Monds.

Geoff Hobson reports for Bengals.com Cincinnati Bengals backup C Roger Roesler is being examined for a possible broken bone in his foot. Other injuries from last night included, LB Armegis Spearman (ankle), MLB Brian Simmons (shoulder), RT Jamain Stephens (shoulder), FS Darryl Williams (torn forearm muscle) and WR Damon Griffin (hamstring). TE Marco Battaglia (knee) is expected to return to the lineup for next week's game.

Bengals.com reports Cincinnati Bengals RB Brandon Bennett is still bothered by his lower back but is doing individual workouts and should be back with the team next week. RB Michael Basnight is getting a second opinion on a small cartilage tear in his knee. FB Clif Groce may be cleared to practice as early as today. Groce has been hobbled with a sprained knee since last season. RT Jamain Stephens has a sprained ankle and could be back to full strength next week.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Cincinnati Bengals RT Willie Anderson (ankle/shin) missed Friday's practice but has not been ruled out for this weekend's game. Head coach Dick LeBeau is likely to decide Anderson's fate on Sunday morning. If he cannot play, Jamain Stephens would start in his place.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Bengals T Willie Anderson (bruised shin/sprained ankle) is questionable. If Anderson can't go, Jamain Stephens would step in and start. CB Robert Bean (hyperextended knee) is doubtful. Rookie CB Mark Roman will be considered to start if Bean can't go.

Steelers | Still Looking for RT Solution

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports that the Steelers continue to look to solve an opening on their offensive line at right tackle. It looks like Wayne Gandy, also new to the team, will start at left tackle. The candidates for right tackle are Jamain Stephens, Chris Conrad, rookie Kris Farris and newly signed Anthony Brown who came over from the Bengals. None of the four is penciled in as the starter right now. The team feels comfortable with Gandy protecting QB Kordell Stewart's blind side as the starting left tackle.
