Updating previous stories, the Journal Sentinel reports restricted free agent LB Dhani Jones (Giants) visited with Green Bay Packers officials Monday in Green Bay and told one of his agents before leaving town that he was extremely impressed with the opportunity and the organization. The agent said Jones wouldn't even consider signing an offer sheet from the Packers unless it was substantially more lucrative than the one signed by LB Armegis Spearman that was later matched by the Bengals. The Packers apparently want him for the middle even though they think he can play both middle and weak. His compensation is a sixth-round draft pick.

Bengals.com reports Cincinnati Bengals LB Armegis Spearman will now report to the Bengals voluntary workouts and he will be in town Sunday. "Today was an all-day process. Now that he’s matched, he’s 110 percent a Bengal," said agent David Levine. "That’s not going to be a problem. He’s flattered that the Bengals had some options to trade him and despite all that and the contract, they wanted to keep him." The Green Bay Packers tried to trade for Spearman on Monday after the Bengals decided to match their offer sheet.

Then he is to make $1 million in 2005. He is still trying to convince the Bengals not to match the offer. He does not feel, despite what coach Marvin Lewis said, he will be given the opportunity to start in Cincinnati.

Updating previous reports, the Journal Sentinel reports the terms of restricted free agent LB Armegis Spearman's (Bengals) offer sheet with the Green Bay Packers are: it's a three-year, $2.375 million deal that included a $500,000 signing bonus and base salaries of $375,000 in 2003, $500,000 in 2004 and $1 million in 2005. There are no incentives and his cap salary this year is a modest $541,666. As noted, the Bengals are expected to match the offer.

He came to that conclusion after talking to coach Marvin Lewis. He said Lewis gave him every indication the Bengals will keep him by matching the contract, maybe as soon as Friday. "Coach Lewis said he’s trying to build a team with the best possible players," Spearman said. "He said the best players are going to play no matter the money." Lewis wouldn’t say Thursday if the Bengals are going to match.

The Bengals have seven days in which to match the offer. If they do not, no compensation would be due from the Packers because Spearman came into the NFL as an undrafted rookie in 2000.

With the whole off-season to recover, the Cincinnati Post reports starting ORT Willie Anderson left Sunday's game with a deep bruises on his shin and thigh and played very little in the second half. Rookie LB Armegis Spearman suffered a right turf toe injury and a left wrist injury but still managed 10 tackles. DT John Copeland reinjured his sore calf in the first quarter while chasing Eagles QB Donovan McNabb.
