Steelers | James Conner impressed team in spring

Mon, 16 Jul 2018 17:08:51 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner was "very impressive during the spring" and "really looks like he can be a solid every down running back in this league," according to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic.

Fantasy Tip: No one is going to confuse Conner for Bell, but everyone from Ben Roethlisberger to the coaching staff has sung the praises of the second-year back this year. With Bell likely done in Pittsburgh after this season, the 23-year-old's fantasy dynasty value just got a nice little boost. While he figures to have little to no redraft fantasy value if Le'Veon Bell doesn't hold out, Conner can make a strong case for being the most valuable handcuff in the league.

Steelers | James Conner up to speed

Fri, 25 May 2018 18:49:22 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (knee) has been practicing during OTAs, and TE Jesse James said Conner looks more confident this year. "He's running fast, running every ball to the end zone," James said. "He looks good."

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Conner has fully recovered from knee surgery, and he is worth stashing as a handcuff if you are a Le'Veon Bell owner.

Steelers | James Conner resumes running

Fri, 09 Feb 2018 18:43:53 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (knee) said he has progressed to the point where he can sprint on the treadmill. "So things are looking bright for next year," Conner said.

Fantasy Tip: If Pittsburgh's backfield situation remains the same in 2018, Conner will be worth stashing as a handcuff to Le'Veon Bell.

Steelers | James Conner undergoes knee surgery

Tue, 19 Dec 2017 09:13:24 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (knee) underwent knee surgery to repair his MCL on Tuesday, Dec. 19, and will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

Fantasy Tip: Conner logged only 32 carries as Le'Veon Bell's backup this season, although that is more of a reflection on Bell's importance to the offense than an indictment of the rookie's ability. Fitzgerald Touissant will serve as Bell's little-used handcuff the rest of the way.

Steelers | Mike Tomlin 'comfortable' with James Conner

Tue, 05 Sep 2017 10:15:16 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie RB James Conner has shown enough that head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters he would be comfortable with him should Le'Veon Bell does not or cannot take all the snaps at running back.

Fantasy Tip: Given Bell's injury history and the fact he reported to the team so late, this is actually a fairly big deal. As long as we can take Tomlin at his word (and history says we can), Conner will be one of the more valuable handcuffs in fantasy. Do not hesitate to pick him up in your league if he is somehow available or wait too long to select him as a high-upside option late in drafts.

Steelers | James Conner to be No. 3 back?

Wed, 23 Aug 2017 12:56:15 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie RB James Conner is listed as the No. 2 running back behind RB Fitzgerald Touissant on the Steelers' latest depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: This, of course, does not take into account the presence of one Le'Veon Bell. Upon Bell's return, Conner will assume the No. 3 position. That is, if he hasn't supplanted Touissant yet. For now, Conner is merely a late-round sleeper and viable handcuff for Bell.

Steelers | James Conner rushed for 98 yards

Sun, 20 Aug 2017 16:37:23 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner rushed for 98 yards on 20 carries in the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Conner may be the leading candidate for the No. 2 running back job at this point and could work with the starters in the third preseason game. He has a chance be an option in the late rounds of drafts because Le'Veon Bell has an injury history.
