Steelers | Mike Tomlin 'comfortable' with James Conner

Tue, 05 Sep 2017 10:15:16 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie RB James Conner has shown enough that head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters he would be comfortable with him should Le'Veon Bell does not or cannot take all the snaps at running back.

Fantasy Tip: Given Bell's injury history and the fact he reported to the team so late, this is actually a fairly big deal. As long as we can take Tomlin at his word (and history says we can), Conner will be one of the more valuable handcuffs in fantasy. Do not hesitate to pick him up in your league if he is somehow available or wait too long to select him as a high-upside option late in drafts.

Steelers | James Conner to be No. 3 back?

Wed, 23 Aug 2017 12:56:15 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie RB James Conner is listed as the No. 2 running back behind RB Fitzgerald Touissant on the Steelers' latest depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: This, of course, does not take into account the presence of one Le'Veon Bell. Upon Bell's return, Conner will assume the No. 3 position. That is, if he hasn't supplanted Touissant yet. For now, Conner is merely a late-round sleeper and viable handcuff for Bell.

Steelers | James Conner rushed for 98 yards

Sun, 20 Aug 2017 16:37:23 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner rushed for 98 yards on 20 carries in the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Conner may be the leading candidate for the No. 2 running back job at this point and could work with the starters in the third preseason game. He has a chance be an option in the late rounds of drafts because Le'Veon Bell has an injury history.

Steelers | James Conner set to make debut

Fri, 18 Aug 2017 12:42:29 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) is scheduled to play against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Aug. 20. Head coach Mike Tomlin expects to give Conner as much work as possible. "I'm going to give him as much as he can handle (while keeping a close eye on him)," Tomlin said.

Fantasy Tip: There is been talk about Fitzgerald Touissant being the main backup in Pittsburgh while Le'Veon Bell remains out of camp, but a good showing from the rookie over the next week or two should end that discussion. Given Bell's issues in recent years and by virtue of the offense he will be playing in, Conner should be considered one of the best handcuffs in fantasy football.

Steelers | James Conner on track to play

Sun, 13 Aug 2017 17:58:17 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) said he felt great after doing individual work and 7-on-7 drills during practice Sunday, Aug. 13, and he is on track to play in the second preseason game Sunday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: As long as Conner's recovery remains on schedule, he should enter the season as the primary backup to Le'Veon Bell. He is one of the more appealing backup running backs to draft, and Bell owners should grab him as a handcuff.

Steelers | James Conner limited Tuesday

Tue, 08 Aug 2017 18:43:49 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) participated in light drills during practice Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Conner probably will miss the first preseason game but appears to be on track to return to practice on a full-time basis. Conner has a good chance to be the No. 2 running back this season and see some work during games. He is only a late-round option at this point as a handcuff to Le'Veon Bell.

Steelers | James Conner has minor injury

Wed, 02 Aug 2017 15:11:53 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a sprained AC joint and probably will only be sidelined for a few days, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Conner could miss the first preseason game but should be back on the field in the near future. He is considered the leading candidate for the No. 2 running back job and would start if Le'Veon Bell decides to hold out during the regular season. Conner will only see limited touches if Bell is healthy and probably should only be a late-round option as a possible handcuff to Bell.

Steelers | James Conner has shoulder evaluated

Mon, 31 Jul 2017 15:33:38 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) was sent to a Pittsburgh hospital Monday, July 31, to have his injured shoulder evaluated. Head coach Mike Tomlin said he is not sure about the severity of Conner's injury.

Fantasy Tip: Owners likely will know about Conner's injury in the next few days. Conner has been receiving most of the first-team snaps since Le'Veon Bell is not at camp and has a decent chance to be the No. 2 running back this season. He could be a handcuff to Bell in fantasy leagues or a late-round option in deeper leagues.

Steelers | James Conner injures shoulder

Sun, 30 Jul 2017 16:01:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during practice Sunday, July 30, and will be reevaluated in the near future, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye on the situation because Conner is expected to be the No. 2 running back this season. He will see limited playing time as long as Le'Veon Bell is healthy but will have value as a possible handcuff to Bell in fantasy leagues.

Steelers | James Conner soaking up reps

Sat, 29 Jul 2017 21:28:38 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner said he is excited to receive first-team reps while RB Le'Veon Bell holds out from training camp, and he is focused on mastering the playbook.

Fantasy Tip: Bell will be the workhorse back as long as he is healthy, but Conner is a solid handcuff to grab in the later rounds. He would likely step into a big role if Bell goes down.
