Panthers | Nothing doing for Curtis Samuel

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 15:52:32 -0700

Carolina Panthers rookie WR Curtis Samuel posted two grabs for seven yards in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills

Fantasy Tip: Samuel hasn't been much of the plan so far during his early days in Charlotte, but he could see more responsibilities as everyone is asked to do more with Greg Olsen (foot) going down. Still, Samuel is battling Russell Shepard and Damiere Byrd for scraps and is only worth rostering in long-term fantasy formats at this time.

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) will play in Week 1's game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Samuel was a full participant in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. He is expected to be used primarily as a slot receiver and is worth keeping tabs on in dynasty leagues.

Panthers | Curtis Samuel practices Thursday

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 14:44:34 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Samuel likely will receive most of his playing time as a slot receiver and will be asked to use his quickness to make plays. He is probably not a starting option at this point but could be used later in the season depending on his role in the offense.

Panthers | Curtis Samuels goes through full practice

Wed, 06 Sep 2017 14:12:50 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuels (ankle) went through a full practice session on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Fantasy Tip: The rookie out of Ohio State has work to do, as he is listed as the fifth receiver behind Damiere Byrd and Russell Shepard. If he is able to vault Byrd and Shepard to work into a third receiver job behind starters Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess, he might be worth a look in fantasy down the road.

Thu, 31 Aug 2017 18:38:52 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) left the preseason game early Thursday, Aug. 31, because of an ankle injury.

Panthers | Full practice for Curtis Samuel

Mon, 21 Aug 2017 15:07:03 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (hamstring) fully participated in practice Monday, Aug. 21. Head coach Ron Rivera said he is not sure if Samuel will play in the preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Aug. 24, because Samuel has not done much during training camp and the team wants to avoid aggravating the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Samuel may be held out until the regular season opener so he can have more time to heal his injured hamstring. He is expected to be a slot receiver for the Panthers, and the team may look to get the ball in his hands in space. Samuel probably can be avoided in most standard leagues but could be a waiver wire option during the season.

Panthers | Russell Shepard making his mark

Fri, 18 Aug 2017 18:28:32 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Russell Shepard has been a "favorite target" of both Cam Newton and Derek Anderson this spring and summer. In part because rookie WR Curtis Samuel has been nursing a hamstring injury for so much of the offseason, Shepard appears to be the frontrunner for the No. 3 job in Carolina.

Fantasy Tip: Shepard flashed occasionally in 2016 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and owners need only to remember how well Ted Ginn played in a similar role in each of the last two seasons. He doesn't need to be drafted in leagues, but he has enough deep speed to fill the "Ginn role" until Samuel is ready.
