Redskins | Samaje Perine to miss a week

Fri, 17 Aug 2018 11:54:37 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine (ankle) is expected to miss about one week, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: This comes as a relief for Perine and anyone considering him in fantasy drafts. He could face a setback against Rob Kelley in the battle for assuming RB1 duties vacated by the injured Derrius Guice. Either way, the winner is no better than a flex consideration.

Redskins | Samaje Perine's injury not considered serious

Fri, 17 Aug 2018 09:57:00 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine (ankle) is expected to be fine after spraining his ankle in a preseason game Thursday, Aug. 16. "Samaje went in and got checked for (a) twisted ankle, but looks like it's OK. Everything else was negative. Twisted ankle for Samaje," head coach Jay Gruden said, via the team's post-game transcript.

Fantasy Tip: Perine, a second-year back, is battling Rob Kelley for the teamís starting gig after rookie Derrius Guice was lost for the season, and in a battle this close any setback could swing the needle. Whoever does win the job, though, likely will be a low-end RB3 at best.

Redskins | Samaje Perine suffers injury

Thu, 16 Aug 2018 17:38:51 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine (ankle) left the preseason game early Thursday, Aug. 16, and is being evaluated for an ankle sprain.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check to see if Perine is dealing with a significant injury or if it is minor. He is expected to be part of a committee at running back and is pushing for the starting job with Derrius Guice out. He could be a No. 3 running back in standard leagues if he starts this season.

Redskins | Samaje Perine odd-man out in D.C.?

Wed, 08 Aug 2018 12:12:03 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine might be the odd-man out on a depth chart with RBs Derrius Guice, Chris Thompson and Rob Kelley. Byron Marshall and Kapri Bibbs are also in the mix for jobs.

Fantasy Tip: Perine showed some signs of life down the stretch last season, although he averaged just 3.4 yards per carry. Guice and Thompson are expected to be the top two backs, and head coach Jay Gruden has been praising Kelley. The team likely wants something in return for Perine rather than cutting him, so it's possible he might be traded unless injuries occur. For now, Perine's fantasy value is in the toilet, but that could change with a potential move to a less crowded backfield.

Redskins | Washington to add running back?

Wed, 28 Feb 2018 13:27:42 -0800

Washington Redskins RBs Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson will have new company in 2018 if senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams has his way. Williams said the Redskins undoubtedly have to upgrade at the position.

Fantasy Tip: This year's crop of rookie running backs is fairly deep, so Washington could address the need that way. Perine and Thompson should still have integral roles in the offense, though. Thompson is a PPR stud, but let's wait to gauge their fantasy value until there's a clearer picture of the position's depth.

Redskins | Samaje Perine to start?

Sun, 25 Feb 2018 18:56:54 -0800

The Washington Redskins are unlikely to "invest major assets" in the running back position, according to Rich Tandler of NBC Washington, and Tandler believes RB Samaje Perine will enter the 2018 season as the starter.

Fantasy Tip: Perine had a couple of strong performances last year, but he mostly underwhelmed. Throw in his limited work in the passing game, and even if Perine is the starter, he'll only be a RB3 for fantasy owners.
