Redskins | Samaje Perine runs for 67 yards

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 21:29:36 -0700

Washington Redskins rookie RB Samaje Perine rushed 21 times for 67 yards in Week 2 against the Rams and he had one catch for no gain on his only target.

Fantasy Tip: Perine had the most touches out of the three Washington backs, and he did a pretty solid job. The rookie out of the University of Oklahoma has all kinds of upside, but in a crowded backfield it's uncertain who will be the bellcow from week to week. They're using a hot-hand approach in Washington which is maddening to fantasy owners.

Redskins | Samaje Perine runs well

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 20:54:10 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine had eight carries for 45 yards and one catch for 29 yards against the Green Bay Packers in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Rob Kelley struggled in the same game, which should only add steam to the Perine hype train. There is a good chance that no Washington back will emerge as an every-week fantasy starter, but Perine is worth a shot as a RB5 in case he becomes top dog in the backfield.

Redskins | Samaje Perine closing the gap?

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 09:18:36 -0700

Washington Redskins rookie RB Samaje Perine impressed the team with the way he bounced back from some miscues in the team's preseason opener on Thursday, Aug. 10, versus the Baltimore Ravens - both with how he responded in the game and during practice this week.

Fantasy Tip: Perine fumbled, dropped a pass and struggled in pass protection in his first NFL game, and ESPN's John Keim speculated shortly thereafter that "a gap" existed between Rob Kelley and the rookie for the starting job. That would appear to still be the case, but Perine is a powerful runner who will continue to get opportunities in what should be a pretty good offense. He's well worth a late-round pick as a high-upside RB5.

Redskins | Samaje Perine not a threat to start yet

Tue, 15 Aug 2017 19:06:43 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine has to work on becoming more consistent in protection, and coaches say he's still thinking too much when running the ball, according to ESPN.com's John Keim, who writes "there is a gap" between Perine and Rob Kelley.

Fantasy Tip: It has been widely assumed since the draft Perine would beat out Kelley in camp, but it doesn't appear as if that is going to happen. The rookie should be able to carve out a role at some point given how good of an inside runner he is, but owners probably need to start preparing as if Kelley may be the 200-carry guy in this backfield. Kelley should be considered a midrange RB3 at this point, while Perine is in RB5 territory.

Redskins | Samaje Perine shaky in debut

Thu, 10 Aug 2017 23:34:08 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine carried six times for 15 yards (2.5 YPC) in his preseason debut Thursday, Aug. 10. He also fumbled, dropped a pass and struggled in pass protection.

Fantasy Tip: Washington's offense was abysmal so don't read too much into his yardage, but putting the ball on the ground is unacceptable, and his struggles in blitz pick up could make it hard for him to get meaningful snaps. Monitor Perine to see if he cleans things up in pass pro. For now he's a late-round RB5 or Rob Kelley handcuff.

Redskins | Samaje Perine may be limited early

Wed, 05 Jul 2017 12:38:11 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine could receive limited touches during the early portion of the season but has the chance to lead the team in carries during some games in November and December, in the opinion of CSN Mid-Atlantic's Rich Tandler.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye on Perine during the preseason to see what his role will be for Week 1. Perine should see more touches as the season goes on, which will make him a value option in some leagues. Perine can be considered a No. 4 or No. 5 running back in fantasy leagues and can be a handcuff to Rob Kelley.

Redskins | Samaje Perine making coach confident

Mon, 26 Jun 2017 12:22:28 -0700

Washington Redskins rookie RB Samaje Perine already has a good feel for the game, good feet, good vision and good strength, according to running backs coach Randy Jordan. Perine has also impressed with his catching ability. Jordan said Perine catches the football "so much better" than he thought he could.

Fantasy Tip: Perine has deserved hype heading into his first year, but the Redskins are deep at running back, too, with Rob Kelley, Chris Thompson and others. Perine isn't guaranteed the starting position, but he has a good shot to win the job. Drafting him in RB3 to RB4 territory is rational for now.

Redskins | Samaje Perine impresses coaches

Sat, 13 May 2017 20:13:10 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine drew praise from running backs coach Randy Jordan for his quickness and elusiveness during rookie minicamp, and head coach Jay Gruden praised Perine's technique. "You can tell his pad level is always down and he had good vision and he has good feet in the hole, and he caught the ball well," Gruden said.

Fantasy Tip: Rob Kelley should enter the season as the lead back, but there is no guarantee that he is the long-term answer. Perine could play his way into a sizeable role before the end of the year, and he is worth a look as a RB4.

Redskins | Rob Kelley expected to remain lead back

Fri, 12 May 2017 09:10:28 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley has reportedly impressed team with his work in the offseason, and he will likely remain the starter ahead of fourth-round RB Samaje Perine for the time being, according to CSN Mid-Atlantic's J.P. Finlay.

Fantasy Tip: Fellow CSN Mid-Atlantic writer Rich Tandler said "all bets are off" after Kelley takes the first regular-season snap. There's a good chance Tandler's ends up being right on this one. Perine was drafted to address Washington's woes in short-yardage and goal-line situations. The rookie was one of the draft's most physical runners, while Kelley only averaged 3.98 yards per carry in nine games as a starter. It would be surprising if Perine doesn't overtake Kelley at some point, making him a low-end flex option.

Redskins | Samaje Perine will challenge Rob Kelley

Mon, 01 May 2017 14:05:42 -0700

Washington Redskins rookie RB Samaje Perine is expected to challenge fellow RB Rob Kelley for early-down work, according to ESPN.com's John Keim. Head coach Jay Gruden lauded Perine for his toughness and physical abilities. "We know how strong he is," Gruden said. "Just a total package is really what we liked."

Fantasy Tip: Perine and Kelley are similar runners with bruising styles. They will wear down a defense but aren't exactly ideal for PPR formats. Chris Thompson will continue to play the third-down, change-of-pace role. Kelley still has the most upside in Washington's backfield, but his fantasy value took a hit with the addition of Perine. He's a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 option in standard leagues.
