Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes struggling

Fri, 25 May 2018 19:21:03 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' struggles during OTAs are nothing to be worried about, according to head coach Andy Reid. "We throw in a lot of new stuff so you want to test what you can get away with in these camps, so you're going to have interceptions," Reid said. "That doesn't bother me."

Fantasy Tip: Mahomes is unproven as he enters his first season as the starter, but he has a big arm and plenty of weapons around him. He will be a high-risk, high-reward QB2.

Chiefs | Demarcus Robinson to emerge in 2018?

Thu, 17 May 2018 19:58:07 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson's rapport with QB Patrick Mahomes and the presence of WR Tyreek Hill and WR Sammy Watkins on the outside should allow him to exploit defenses underneath this season, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.

Fantasy Tip: Kansas City suddenly has a crowded receiving corps, but if Mahomes excels, Robinson could be a nice depth option for fantasy owners in PPR formats.

Chiefs | Chad Henne ready to help

Sun, 18 Mar 2018 20:02:48 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Chad Henne said he is ready to embrace a "mentor role" and help QB Patrick Mahomes.

Fantasy Tip: Mahomes is unproven, but he will have plenty of weapons to throw to as he begins his first year as a starter. He will be an upside-QB2 in 2018.

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes making strides

Fri, 02 Feb 2018 20:10:25 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is "way ahead of schedule" in his development, according to one of his coaches.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs put their faith in Mahomes when they dealt Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins this week. Mahomes has a huge arm, and he'll be a QB2 in 2018 with tons of upside, especially in keeper formats.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce confident in Patrick Mahomes

Thu, 01 Feb 2018 20:47:28 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce said that he knows QB Patrick Mahomes is "ready for the opportunity" and that the club can "without a doubt" win a championship with Mahomes under center. "He can throw the ball any way, he can throw it off his back foot and he can jump and throw, he can throw the ball anywhere, any way you need for it to be thrown," Kelce added. "His confidence is definitely one of the best attributes to his game."

Fantasy Tip: One of the biggest transitions in all of football next season will see how the Chiefs fare moving on from Alex Smith to Mahomes, their 2017 first-round pick whom they drafted out of Texas Tech. The 22-year-old received one start in his rookie campaign -- a meaningless Week 17 tilt in Denver -- and didn't disappoint, racking up 284 yards on 62.9 percent passing. While his ceiling is high, he'll begin the season as more of an option for two-quarterback formats.

RB Anthony Sherman ran 14 times for a team-high 40 yards and a touchdown, while RB Kareem Hunt rushed for a 35-yard touchdown on his only carry. Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes to draw Week 17 start

Wed, 27 Dec 2017 09:59:22 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced QB Patrick Mahomes will make his first career start in Week 17 against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: It's a smart move by the Chiefs, who are locked into the fourth seed in the AFC and have nothing to gain by rolling out Alex Smith. The rookie is blessed with the rocket arm and has drawn both good and bad comparisons to Brett Favre, but he's in for a tough first start against a revitalized Denver defense. He's a QB2 at best in Week 17.

Chiefs | KC doesn't have plans to start Patrick Mahomes

Sun, 03 Dec 2017 08:08:06 -0800

The Kansas City Chiefs are still planning to have QB Patrick Mahomes take a "redshirt season" this year, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, although the idea of him making an appearance in a game has not been taken off the table.

Fantasy Tip: Mahomes is running the scout team in practice and hasn't run the team's plays at full speed since the fourth week of the preseason, so starting QB Alex Smith doesn't appear to be in imminent danger of losing his job. Mahomes only has fantasy value in dynasty and keeper leagues at this point.

Chiefs | No quarterback controversy in KC

Sat, 02 Sep 2017 16:54:23 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith is in no danger of losing his job despite an impressive preseason from rookie Patrick Mahomes, according to general manager Brett Veach. "There is no gray area. Alex is so far advanced from the mental side of things in regard to his ability to read coverages, to shift us out of plays and really play the chess game. He's so far ahead of where Pat is. I don't think it's even close right now," Veach said.

Fantasy Tip: Mahomes showed the kind of physical skill in the preseason that made him such a sought-after prospect this spring and gives the Chiefs plenty of hope for the future, but he is still a raw prospect in a complicated offense. His future is bright, but Kansas City needs to hope it doesn't find out how bright until at least 2018.
