Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes, offense will play half

Tue, 14 Aug 2018 11:43:11 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and the first-team offense will play the whole first half in Week 2 of the preseason, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Mahomes will be given meaningful playing time for the first time since Week 17 of last season. He'll need it, too, to shake off rust and develop more fluidity with his supporting cast. His dual-threat ability gives him high-end QB2 appeal.

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes mistake-prone early on

Wed, 01 Aug 2018 11:28:19 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes made a handful of miscues in practice again Wednesday, Aug. 1, and he now has seven interceptions through six camp practices. "He had a few hiccups today," offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy said. "But that's a part of the process. When you're young you need those hiccups because they become valuable lessons."

Fantasy Tip: All indications are that Mahomes is also making plenty of big plays, too. He is trying to break the stigma that Texas Tech quarterbacks are system guys, and Red Raiders cannot play at the next level. It's something Zebbie Lethridge, Kliff Kingsbury, B.J. Symons, Graham Harrell, Sonny Cumbie, Seth Doege and, to this point, Davis Webb haven't been able to shake. The last effective NFL QB from Texas Tech dates back to Billy Joe Tolliver in the late 80's. Mahomes looks to have plenty of upside, but he remains a high-risk, high-reward QB2 in redraft leagues for now.

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes gaining support

Sat, 30 Jun 2018 21:17:32 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is a "complete player," according to free-agent LB Tamba Hali (Chiefs). "He can throw the ball," Hali said. "Athletically, he's gifted. You don't have to coach it. In practice, I'd watch him just look guys off."

Fantasy Tip: Mahomes is a high-risk, high-reward QB2 in redraft leagues, but he has the physical tools, the coaching staff and weapons around him to be an impact fantasy option sooner rather than later.

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes, Sammy Watkins connecting

Thu, 14 Jun 2018 10:16:30 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and WR Sammy Watkins already appear to have a good rapport. Their connection has been a "consistent sight" throughout the offseason program. WR Chris Conley said Watkins has been picking up the offense quickly and CB Steve Nelson added that Watkins has been putting in more time to work out.

Fantasy Tip: Drafting Watkins to your fantasy squad is a tempting but difficult affair. He did score a career-high eight times last season, but only caught 39 passes for 593 yards. The upside is apparent and Watkins has the ability to achieve WR2 numbers, but it would behoove fantasy gamers to select him as a WR3.

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes struggling

Fri, 25 May 2018 19:21:03 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' struggles during OTAs are nothing to be worried about, according to head coach Andy Reid. "We throw in a lot of new stuff so you want to test what you can get away with in these camps, so you're going to have interceptions," Reid said. "That doesn't bother me."

Fantasy Tip: Mahomes is unproven as he enters his first season as the starter, but he has a big arm and plenty of weapons around him. He will be a high-risk, high-reward QB2.

Chiefs | Demarcus Robinson to emerge in 2018?

Thu, 17 May 2018 19:58:07 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson's rapport with QB Patrick Mahomes and the presence of WR Tyreek Hill and WR Sammy Watkins on the outside should allow him to exploit defenses underneath this season, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.

Fantasy Tip: Kansas City suddenly has a crowded receiving corps, but if Mahomes excels, Robinson could be a nice depth option for fantasy owners in PPR formats.

Chiefs | Chad Henne ready to help

Sun, 18 Mar 2018 20:02:48 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Chad Henne said he is ready to embrace a "mentor role" and help QB Patrick Mahomes.

Fantasy Tip: Mahomes is unproven, but he will have plenty of weapons to throw to as he begins his first year as a starter. He will be an upside-QB2 in 2018.

Chiefs | Patrick Mahomes making strides

Fri, 02 Feb 2018 20:10:25 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is "way ahead of schedule" in his development, according to one of his coaches.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs put their faith in Mahomes when they dealt Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins this week. Mahomes has a huge arm, and he'll be a QB2 in 2018 with tons of upside, especially in keeper formats.

Chiefs | Travis Kelce confident in Patrick Mahomes

Thu, 01 Feb 2018 20:47:28 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce said that he knows QB Patrick Mahomes is "ready for the opportunity" and that the club can "without a doubt" win a championship with Mahomes under center. "He can throw the ball any way, he can throw it off his back foot and he can jump and throw, he can throw the ball anywhere, any way you need for it to be thrown," Kelce added. "His confidence is definitely one of the best attributes to his game."

Fantasy Tip: One of the biggest transitions in all of football next season will see how the Chiefs fare moving on from Alex Smith to Mahomes, their 2017 first-round pick whom they drafted out of Texas Tech. The 22-year-old received one start in his rookie campaign -- a meaningless Week 17 tilt in Denver -- and didn't disappoint, racking up 284 yards on 62.9 percent passing. While his ceiling is high, he'll begin the season as more of an option for two-quarterback formats.

Wed, 31 Jan 2018 07:48:22 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is expected to enter the 2018 season as the starter with the trade of QB Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Mahomes has a big arm, and the combination of him and Tyreek Hill is tantalizing. He'll be a QB2 in fantasy with some upside.
