Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun Times, reports Chicago Bears TE John Davis (back) is eligible to return from the physically-unable-to-perform list on Monday, Oct. 13. The Bears will have three weeks to decide what they would like to do with him. Davis, who is recovering from back surgery, said he will be ready to play, but the team has not made any announcement. ''I'd really be premature with that,'' Jauron said. ''As of last week, [medical personnel] weren't certain.''

"With Stan being flexible enough to run the 'H' and fullback for us, it doesn't take us out of any groupings per se. (But) it's not the ideal grouping for us," coach Dick Jauron said. "We'd like to have all our tight ends and Stan in there."

He can be activated as soon as he recovers from his injuries suffered in a car accident two weeks ago. He sustained a laceration on his face that resulted in significant blood loss. "We should find out in four or five days," coach Dennis Green said.

The Pioneer Press reports Minnesota Vikings TE John Davis and DE Michael Boireau are both taking physicals on Sunday to determine their status. Davis suffered lacerations to his face in a car accident last week while Boireau hasn't taken part in the team's offseason workouts because of a rare virus that has caused his right eye to droop.

He may not be able to participate in practice right away when workouts begin Monday. His agent said he swerved to miss a deer and hit a median wall.
