Packers | GB to lighten Ty Montgomery's workload?

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 20:44:08 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery figures to receive less work in the weeks ahead, according to Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Montgomery has played more snaps (139) than any other running back in the NFL -- putting him on pace for 1,112 -- and there have been just four tailbacks who logged more than 900 snaps in a season over the last five years. Head coach Mike McCarthy said he's "definitely aware of it" and added, "That's what game plans are for."

Fantasy Tip: That last line is key, as the Packers have started out the season against two of the NFC's best teams (Seahawks and Falcons), which probably required such heavy usage of Montgomery. When the Packers play lesser opponents, it looks like Montgomery's work will be scaled back a bit to preserve his health, especially since this is his first full season as a running back. Either way, the former wide receiver has solidified himself as a legit RB1 in the early going.

Packers | Ty Montgomery totals 110 yards, two TDs

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 21:56:31 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery rushed 10 times for 35 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 at Atlanta and he added six receptions for 75 yards and a score on seven targets.

Fantasy Tip: Montgomery was one of the more reliable receivers for Aaron Rodgers once Jordy Nelson left the game due to a quadriceps injury. It was a great night for fantasy owners of Montgomery across the board. He'll look to carry the momentum into Week 3 against Cincinnati at Lambeau Field.

Packers | Tough sledding for Ty Montgomery

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 20:51:12 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery carried 19 times for 54 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 39 yards in a 17-9 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Although Montgomery didn't have any explosive runs, he did dominate the backfield touches. He should be a safe RB2 play against Atlanta in Week 2.

Packers | Ty Montgomery should play

Thu, 24 Aug 2017 10:40:40 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery (leg) is expected to play this week versus the Denver Broncos, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Fantasy Tip: Don't expect Montgomery to play much so as to not aggravate whatever leg injury he had. Assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he remains an RB2 candidate with increased appeal in PPR leagues.

Packers | Ty Montgomery back at practice

Tue, 22 Aug 2017 14:56:45 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery (leg) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 22, after being sidelined last week with a lower leg injury.

Fantasy Tip: Montgomery will start the season as somewhat of an underrated PPR running back. He'll be the starting running back for one of the highest scoring teams in the NFL and essentially caught 44 passes in 11 games last season. Consider TyMont a high-end PPR RB2.

Packers | Ty Montgomery remains out

Wed, 16 Aug 2017 18:33:31 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery (leg) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Montgomery could be held out of the second preseason game because of his injury but has a few weeks to prepare for the regular season. He will be the starting running back for the Packers this season and will continue to be used in the passing game. He will be a solid No. 2 running back in all leagues.

Packers | Ty Montgomery misses practice

Tue, 15 Aug 2017 15:16:40 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery (leg) missed practice Tuesday, Aug. 15, due to a soft tissue injury on his lower leg. Montgomery added that the ailment is nothing to worry about.

Fantasy Tip: Montgomery is a polarizing figure in the fantasy community this year. If he can hold onto the starting job in the backfield and stay healthy, he has low-end RB1 upside in PPR formats. In any case, Jamaal Williams is a recommended handcuff.

Packers | Jamaal Williams works with top unit

Sat, 05 Aug 2017 18:23:01 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams shared snaps with RB Ty Montgomery with the first-team offense Saturday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Montgomery figures to be the lead back, but Williams could provide the thunder to Montgomery's lightning and potentially see some carries around the goal line. Consider him a RB4 candidate.

Packers | Jamaal Williams could push Ty Montgomery

Wed, 02 Aug 2017 12:06:30 -0700

Green Bay Packers rookie RB Jamaal Williams is the most likely of the rookie running backs on the team to push Ty Montgomery for the starting job, according to offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett, who added Williams has earned work with the first team due to his ability to pass protect.

Fantasy Tip: Pass protection is perhaps Montgomery's biggest weakness, so this is something to keep an eye on moving forward. The most likely scenario for Green Bay this year is Montgomery serving as the lead back and pushing 200 touches, while Williams could serve as the change-of-pace and possibly handle goal-line work. It is still very much a fluid situation, albeit one ripe with plenty of fantasy upside.

Packers | Ty Montgomery lauded by coach

Mon, 31 Jul 2017 12:29:52 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery is the "full package," according to head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy admitted that Montgomery needs more repetitions in pass protection, but his running ability, pass-catching and route-running are on point. "That guy's a stud now. He's got it in his body. He's a very good young player," McCarthy added.

Fantasy Tip: McCarthy is right; Montgomery can do anything and everything for the Packers on offense. He's one of the most versatile weapons in the league and has bulked up to be able to take the contact. View him as a RB2 with added value in PPR leagues.
