Lions | Ameer Abdullah runs for 86 yards

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 20:48:15 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah carried 17 times for 86 yards in Week 2 against the New York Giants on Monday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Abdullah averaged 5.1 yards per carry, but the streak continues for the Lions. They haven't had a 100-yard runner in a single game since Thanksgiving of 2013 when Reggie Bush hit the mark. If Abdullah continues to run with authority, he'll be the next 100-yard runner for the Honolulu Blue and Silver. He'll try to hit the mark in Week 3 when the Falcons come calling.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah mostly stuck in neutral

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 16:33:46 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah rushed 15 times for just 30 yards in Week 1 against the Cardinals while adding three catches for 11 yards on four targets.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Abdullah had 18 total touches, but he didn't really go anywhere. Still, no one is really pushing him hard for the primary tailback role. He'll look to get untracked in Week 2 against the Giants on Monday Night Football.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah part of two-RB sets?

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 19:56:25 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah and RB Theo Riddick could be on the field together at times, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

Fantasy Tip: Abdullah is the more complete back of the two. He has a chance to sneak into RB2 territory this season, but he is more of a flex play in Week 1 against an Arizona defense that allowed just 3.6 yards per carry last year. Riddick is mainly a threat as a receiver out of the backfield and can be a RB3 in PPR formats.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah piles up yards

Fri, 25 Aug 2017 18:56:02 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah rushed 13 times for 60 yards and caught three passes for 39 yards against the New England Patriots in the preseason Friday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries have plagued Abdullah thus far, but the versatile back's upside was on full display Friday. He has to stay healthy, but he is worth a look as a low-end RB2 of upside RB3.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah the clear No. 1 RB

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 08:08:20 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah has looked "sharp" throughout training camp, "appears to have retained the speed and agility" he had prior to his injury last season and should get almost all the work on early downs for Detroit this season, according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein.

Fantasy Tip: Rothstein makes it clear he expects Theo Riddick to retain his passing-game role and Zach Zenner to be a goal-line presence, but he believes 1,000 yards rushing is very realistic for Abdullah this season. Given the fact he is unlikely to see much of the high-leverage work that would help his fantasy upside, the third-year back figures to be a low-end RB2 at best in 2017.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah receives day off

Sun, 06 Aug 2017 15:44:56 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah did not participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 6, but said it was a maintenance day. He expects to play in the first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Abdullah will be part of a committee at running back this season but is expected to be the starter at the position. Owners can consider him as a No. 3 running back, but he probably will not be an every week starter.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah not getting featured?

Sat, 05 Aug 2017 08:31:25 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Zach Zenner received the goal-line reps with the first-team offense during a padded practice ahead of Ameer Abdullah on Friday, Aug. 4.

Fantasy Tip: It is just one practice, but a pretty clear indication Zenner must be running ahead of Abdullah for short-yardage and goal-line work. It also contradicts the recent reports out of Detroit that Abdullah would be "featured." It seems pretty clear Theo Riddick and Zenner are going to be involved in the red zone. It all adds up to Abdullah being a risky RB2 selection in the fourth-round area of most drafts.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah to be Lions' featured back

Wed, 02 Aug 2017 21:44:03 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah will be the club's main featured back this season, according to running backs coach David Walker, who said, "Ameer's our guy." Walker added: "Theo has his role, and then the other guys, they got to kind of fit where they fit and that's how we'll go."

Fantasy Tip: While this may be music to the ears of those who have already drafted Abdullah at a steep discount, it is by no means a lock that the former 2015 second-round draft pick will get more than 200 carries, especially since he's coming off two significant surgeries in 19 months. Even so, Abdullah is worth a late-round flier, as he's got a ton of talent and can break out if he's able to stay healthy. That might be a big "if," however.

Lions | Theo Riddick mainly a receiver?

Fri, 14 Jul 2017 20:36:10 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick will be used mainly in the passing game if RB Ameer Abdullah is healthy, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, and Birkett believes Riddick could approach 1,000 yards from scrimmage with around 700 coming as a receiver.

Fantasy Tip: Riddick should at least make for a solid flex play in PPR formats, and given Abdullah's injury history, there is a good chance Riddick could be a RB2 at some point this season.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah the best back in Detroit

Sun, 11 Jun 2017 18:09:34 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah makes the offense noticeably better and is "the best two-way back" on the roster, in the opinion of Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries have plagued Abdullah thus far, but he will lead Detroit's backfield if healthy. He has RB2 upside, and you may be able to grab him at RB3 price because of his injury history.
