Browns | Duke Johnson shines in road loss

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 14:05:31 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson rushed twice for 23 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 at Indianapolis and he added team-highs with six receptions and 81 yards on seven targets.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson continues to make the most of his opportunities and he is eating into the fantasy value of Isaiah Crowell, as head coach Hue Jackson would be silly to take Johnson off the field. Johnson has emerged as a solid RB2 or flex option in PPR formats heading into Week 4 against the Bengals, with lower value in standard formats.

Browns | Duke Johnson totals seven touches

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 16:46:33 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson rushed four times for 21 yards in Week 2 at Baltimore and he added three receptions for 59 yards on six targets.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson had the highlight-reel catch of the week with a one-handed Odell Beckham-esque grab in open space, but that was about all Browns fans could be happy about in this one. He totaled 80 yards from scrimmage, however, and he could continue to see added touches if Isaiah Crowell doesn't kick it into gear soon. The Browns travel to Indianapolis in Week 3.

Browns | Duke Johnson to receive carries

Fri, 15 Sep 2017 16:57:39 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson will receive some carries against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, according to running backs coach Kirby Wilson. Johnson caught two passes in Week 1 but did not have any carries.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson probably will see a handful of carries during the game but is a valuable piece in the passing game. Owners may want to avoid Johnson this week because of his tough matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Browns | Duke Johnson not on injury report

Fri, 15 Sep 2017 12:43:55 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson (chest) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 15, and is not on the injury report for Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson likely will be used as mostly a receiver again this week and could see some snaps as a slot receiver. He can be a flex option against certain opponents but probably should stay on the bench this week against the Baltimore Ravens.

Browns | Duke Johns logs full practice again

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 12:45:50 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson (chest) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson's carries may be few and far between, but he'll have an important role in the passing game throughout 2017. He has more upside in PPR leagues, but he's not a recommended start this week against a stalwart Baltimore Ravens defense that pitched a shutout against the Cincinnati Bengals last week.

Browns | Duke Johnson full go

Wed, 13 Sep 2017 12:31:45 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson (chest) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson did not receive any rushing attempts last week, but he did catch two passes for 20 yards. Considering the fact that the Browns could very well be down in games and be forced to pass, Johnson should continue to be involved in the passing game. That being said, his lack of volume and uninviting matchup versus the Baltimore Ravens force him to the bench.

Broncos | Duke Johnson still a running back

Mon, 11 Sep 2017 12:01:19 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson will remain a running back despite not seeing a carry in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to head coach Hue Jackson, who added Johnson is still "very valuable for the run game and pass game."

Fantasy Tip: It's not surprising Jackson received the question after plenty of preseason speculation Johnson would become the team's slot receiver. With the Baltimore Ravens next on the schedule, look for another game in which Johnson sees more time as a receiver than a running back. After that, however, the schedule lightens up a bit and should allow Johnson to see five to eight carries per game behind starter Isaiah Crowell, allowing him to be a serviceable flex option in PPR leagues.

Browns | Duke Johnson impressing with versatility

Tue, 08 Aug 2017 10:40:00 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson "catches as well as any receiver on the team," according to receivers coach Al Saunders, who went on to compare to Johnson to a queen on a chessboard because he is so versatile.

Fantasy Tip: The only question owners should be asking now is why it took Cleveland three years to discover that Johnson, who needed only three years to break the University of Miami's all-purpose yardage record, is more than just a scatback. The Browns may be starting to realize what kind of weapon they have with him, and it would not be a surprise to see him carve out a role similar to that of Theo Riddick. He should have no problem maintaining RB3 value in PPR leagues.

Browns | Duke Johnson to be used often?

Mon, 31 Jul 2017 13:30:24 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson will be used as much as possible this season if head coach Hue Jackson has his way. "He is just doing everything, honestly," Jackson said. "He is a weapon for us. We are just trying to use him as much as we can, and we do." Johnson is specifically working on improving his mental side of football this offseason, admitting that he felt behind defenses at points in 2016. The third-year running back said he will do anything the team needs him to do; he just wants to be ready when he's called on.

Fantasy Tip: It's easy to be excited about a player during training camp, but the Browns aren't the most attractive team from a fantasy perspective. The good news for Johnson is that he may be used pretty frequently on passing downs if/when the Browns fall behind. Caution should be used, however. Do not draft Johnson as more than a PPR flex.
