Browns | Cleveland expect to ride 'hot hand' at RB

Fri, 22 Jun 2018 09:04:26 -0700

Cleveland Browns RBs Carlos Hyde, Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson each are expected to play a major role in the team's offense this season, but running backs coach Freddie Kitchens told the team's website he plans to ride the "hot hand" in the backfield because "if they are having success, why would you change?"

Fantasy Tip: While each of the three running backs is talented enough to serve as a NFL lead back, one has to wonder why the Browns felt the need to add a second-round running back (Chubb) when they signed Hyde for $5 million per year and extended Johnson for more than that over the next three. If the Browns stay with the committee or hot-hand approach all season long, none of the backs figure to be anything more than low-end RB2s in fantasy.

Browns | Duke Johnson receives extension

Thu, 07 Jun 2018 13:06:31 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension with the Browns Thursday, June 7, worth $15.6 million, according to a source. The deal includes a $5 million signing bonus.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson should receive most of his touches in the passing game this season but could also receive some carries. He will be a valuable option in point-per-reception leagues and could be a No. 2 running back in those leagues some weeks. Johnson can be considered a No. 3 running back or a flex option in standard leagues.

Browns | Duke Johnson optimistic for extension

Wed, 23 May 2018 17:40:44 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson said that he is in discussions with the team about a contract extension and he's "very optimistic" the two sides will come to an agreement.

Fantasy Tip: Although the Browns signed Carlos Hyde to replace Isaiah Crowell in the backfield, that doesn't mean Johnson won't continue to have a valuable role. In his third NFL season last year, the 24-year-old only accumulated 348 yards on the ground on 82 carries, but he also scored four rushing touchdowns, not to mention while recording career bests in receiving yards, catches and touchdowns through the air. He can be a sneaky good RB2, especially in PPR formats.

Browns | Duke Johnson working on new deal

Mon, 12 Mar 2018 14:41:29 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson has been talking with the team about a new contract, but the two sides has been able to reach an agreement on money.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been an important player for the Browns over the last few seasons and will continue to have a big role even if they add another running back this offseason. He can be considered a No. 2 fantasy running back in point-per-reception leagues and a flex option in standard leagues.

Browns | Duke Johnson captured team record in '17

Thu, 08 Feb 2018 21:57:26 -0800

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson finished with 74 catches for 693 yards, setting a new franchise record for receptions in one season by a running back. In addition, he logged 82 carries for 348 yards (4.2 per rush) on the ground. Overall, he had seven total touchdowns -- four rushing and three receiving.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has slowly but surely been trending up since being drafted in the third round out of Miami in 2015, and it's possible he accomplishes even more next year after setting career highs in receptions, receiving yards and targets. He's been a nice complementary back to Isaiah Crowell, who is set to become a free agent, so Cleveland's running game situation will be worth watching this offseason.
