Thu, 18 May 2006 06:31:14 -0700 Don Seeholzer, of the Pioneer Press, reports free agent PK Paul Edinger (Vikings) is still hoping to sign with an NFL team and his agent is confident he will. Agent Ken Harris said Edinger is training three times a week at his home in Florida, confident he'll sign somewhere sooner or later. "He's kicking so well on his own right now, I'm not really that concerned at this point if someone calls before camp starts in July or after camp starts," Harris said Wednesday, May 17. "Either way, the bottom line is to be in the right place." Harris said he has talked to five or six teams that could be in the market for a kicker this summer. Until an offer comes, agent and player are willing to bide their time.

Sun, 19 Mar 2006 20:56:16 -0800 Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports agent Ken Harris called the Miami Dolphins to gauge their interest in free agent PK Paul Edinger (Vikings). Edinger not only played for Dolphins' head coach Nick Saban at Michigan State, but Dolphins special teams coach Keith Armstrong was the driving force that led to the Chicago Bears to draft Edinger in the sixth round of the 2000 draft when Armstrong held the same position in Chicago.
Sun, 12 Mar 2006 21:43:46 -0800 Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports free agent PK Paul Edinger's (Vikings) agent, Ken Harris, wants the Green Bay Packers to consider signing his client. "I had a conversation with them (the Packers) very, very recently," Harris said. "Let's not kid ourselves about the conditions in Green Bay. If you're looking for a cold-weather tested guy, it's my guy."
Thu, 02 Mar 2006 19:35:29 -0800 Jeff Zulgad, of the Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings PK Paul Edinger's agent, Ken Harris, said he has been given no indication whether the Vikings will attempt to re-sign Edinger.

Edinger's agent, Ken Harris, talked with the team last week to touch base but did not exchange contract figures. Harris will look for an upgrade over the $540,000 base salary and $300,000 in incentives that Edinger agreed to for the 2005 season.

Sat, 03 Sep 2005 07:13:03 -0700 Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice still wouldn't definitively hand the place kicking job to PK Paul Edinger, noting that PK Aaron Elling is injured and was unable to kick Friday, Sept. 2. But Tice did concede, "I think that thing certainly sorted itself out," another indication that Edinger will be the Vikings' kicker this season.
Fri, 02 Sep 2005 22:50:05 -0700 The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings PK Paul Edinger kicked a game winning 35-yard field goal on the last play of the game, Friday, Sept. 2, to lead the Vikings past the Seattle Seahawks 23-21.
Tue, 30 Aug 2005 21:14:27 -0700 Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings PK Paul Edinger can seal the team's place kicking position with another solid effort Friday, Sept. 2. His main competition, PK Aaron Elling (hip), will miss the game with a hip flexor strain.
Mon, 29 Aug 2005 22:34:05 -0700 Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings PK Aaron Elling (hip flexor) is day-to-day with a right hip flexor strain. Elling is hoping to return Friday, Sept. 2, for the preseason finale. His return could be too late because PK Paul Edinger is a near certain lock for the job because he was perfect Friday, Aug. 26, nailing four field goals, including a 50-yarder.
Sun, 28 Aug 2005 20:37:57 -0700 The Star Tribune reports agent Frank Murtha wants to know PK Aaron Elling's (hip) status with the Minnesota Vikings and he is hoping to talk to them Monday, Aug. 29, to figure it out. Murtha said he requested a copy of the MRI done on Elling's right hip. As noted, Elling was unable to play in Friday night's preseason victory over San Diego after suffering what has been termed a "little strain" of his hip in pregame warmups. Elling's competition for the place kicking job, PK Paul Edinger, made four field goals. Murtha wants to know if that performance was enough to win Edinger the job. If that's the case, and assuming Elling's injury isn't serious, Murtha would like to have an opportunity to shop his client's services around the NFL while some teams still are looking for a kicker.
Sat, 27 Aug 2005 19:38:51 -0700 Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings PK Paul Edinger has emerged as the No. 1 place kicker after hitting all four of his field goal attempts Friday, Aug. 26.

Wed, 24 Aug 2005 22:03:12 -0700 The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice said the place kicking competition between PKs Aaron Elling and Paul Edinger is so close; he's "baffled" by it. Tice said he is looking forward to the preseason finale in Seattle and is hoping for windy conditions to see who responds best to the challenge. Elling and Edinger know this is going down to the wire, which may hurt the chances of the guy who loses from catching on with another team.
Tue, 23 Aug 2005 11:26:32 -0700 Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings PK Paul Edinger was impressive during the team's game against the New York Jets, Friday, Aug. 19. He made good on a 53-yard kick at the first half, while making several others during the game.
Mon, 15 Aug 2005 22:47:26 -0700 The Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice had a stern reply for the media when he was asked if the team might keep PKs Aaron Elling and Paul Edinger. Tice's response was: "We will not keep two kickers. Read my lips."
Fri, 12 Aug 2005 21:35:52 -0700 Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice said PKs Paul Edinger and Aaron Elling stayed even after their preseason game Friday, August 12. Both kickers had one field goal, but both also had one kickoff each that they would probably want to redo.
Tue, 09 Aug 2005 05:51:06 -0700 Don Seeholzer, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings special teams coordinator Rusty Tillman said he probably would alternate PKs Aaron Elling and Paul Edinger in the team's preseason opener Friday, August 12, against the Kansas City Chiefs at the Metrodome, with Elling leading off. The starting job was supposed to be Elling's to lose heading into camp, and Tillman said there has been no real separation between the two in practice.
Mon, 08 Aug 2005 20:51:39 -0700 The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice said the placekicking competition between PKs Aaron Elling and Paul Edinger remains "head-to-head." Edinger's kickoffs, which once appeared to be a weakness, have improved. "They're both hitting the ball all right," Tice said. "I think Paul has really improved his kickoffs. I'm anxious to see how he hits them in the Metrodome. I think he'll hit them very well. Aaron seems to be more poised and relaxed, bouncing back after a couple of misses. I'm anxious to see how it plays out."
Tue, 02 Aug 2005 06:03:00 -0700 Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings PK Aaron Elling has the early lead over PK Paul Edinger to be the team's place kicker. At practice Monday, August 1, Elling easily kicked a 51-yard field and then blasted the ensuing kickoff 4 yards into the end zone. Edinger also had a solid showing nailing a 48-yard field goal but his kickoff sailed only to the 10. Both Elling and Edinger were humbled in the afternoon practice, with each badly hooking a field-goal attempt of less than 40 yards. Fortunately for them, head coach Mike Tice addressed reporters only after their good session. "Both kickers hit their balls very, very well," Tice said. "I'm pleased with the competition. Aaron seems to have a stronger leg, and we knew that going in, as it pertains to kickoffs. Both of them hit their field goals very, very solidly."
Sun, 31 Jul 2005 00:41:03 -0700 Mark Craig, of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings PK Paul Edinger, who is competing for the starting job, made all four of his field goal attempts from 30-yards out Saturday, July 30.
Tue, 14 Jun 2005 17:02:01 -0700 Dave Campbell, of the Associated Press, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice said place kicker is one of two positions he has some concerns about heading into training camp. PK Paul Edinger has proven his field-goal accuracy, and PK Aaron Elling has a strong leg for kickoffs. Tice said he wants one of them to be "very good" in both areas.
Mon, 13 Jun 2005 18:02:41 -0700 The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings PK Paul Edinger returned to the team's developmental camp Monday, June 13. He missed last week's sessions because he was with his wife who was delivering a baby.

Fri, 03 Jun 2005 19:55:57 -0700 Chris Hawkey, of KFAN.com, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice said there is currently no leader between PKs Paul Edinger and Aaron Elling to win the place kicking job for the Vikings. Both have areas to work on and that consistency will determine who gets the job, according to Tice. The head coach also said Edinger needs to work on his kick-offs and Elling needs to work on his accuracy.
Thu, 02 Jun 2005 18:01:50 -0700 Chris Hawkey, of KFAN.com, reports Minnesota Vikings PK Paul Edinger spent time practicing field goals from 35 and 40 yards out at the team's developmental camp Thursday, June 2. His kicking was straight and strong on the day.
Thu, 02 Jun 2005 07:51:12 -0700 Don Seeholzer, of the Pioneer Press, reports the battle for the Minnesota Vikings place kicker job is underway. The battle does not appear it will be a cutthroat competition. Incumbent PK Aaron Elling and challenger PK Paul Edinger spent their first day together on the practice field engaged in congenial conversation. After signing Edinger, the Vikings made it a point to say the job is Elling's to lose, but the position is still very much up for grabs. "Probably the better field-goal kicker is going to have the better chance," special teams coordinator Rusty Tillman said. "On the other hand, field position is such an important thing; the kickoff is a big factor, too. But I think probably the first thing you look for in a kicker is the consistency making field goals." Edinger is the better field goal kicker, but Elling is the better kickoff guy.
Thu, 26 May 2005 06:01:54 -0700 Don Seeholzer, of the Pioneer Press, reports the Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice said despite the signing of PK Paul Edinger it is PK Aaron Elling's job to lose. "Aaron is our kicker unless somebody beats him out," Tice said. "If Edinger has a weakness, besides the fact he had an off year last year, it's that he's not a great kickoff guy. Edinger needs to work on his kickoffs, and Aaron needs to work on his field-goal accuracy. It will be quite a competition."

Tue, 24 May 2005 19:26:46 -0700 The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports PK Paul Edinger said he signed with the Minnesota Vikings for three reasons. He said the Vikings offered him more money, the Vikings are going places and the last reason was the Vikings play indoors. "He has a lot of ability," said Rob Brzezinski, Vikings vice president of football operations, "and he's still a young player [27]." Brzezinski, however, said Edinger will not be treated as "our savior." Edinger, as noted earlier, will have to win the job in training camp and the expectation is he will.
Tue, 24 May 2005 19:21:22 -0700 Updating a previous story, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports PK Paul Edinger's one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings is worth $540,000. He will receive an additional $150,000 if he scores 80-85 points or an additional $250,000 if he scores more than 85 points. He has averaged 92.6 points per season in five previous years with the Bears.

Mon, 23 May 2005 21:45:46 -0700 Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Vikings have now contacted agent Ken Harris about free agent PK Paul Edinger (Bears). Harris acknowledged he had talked to the Vikings and said there are three teams that are seriously in the running for his client's services. Vikings vice president of football operations, Rob Brzezinski, would only say Monday, May 23 the team is investigating Edinger's availability. "I think the offer sheet we signed him to speaks for itself," Brzezinski said. The Vikings had signed Edinger to an offer sheet in 2003, only to have the Bears match their offer.
Mon, 23 May 2005 20:48:10 -0700 Updating a previous story, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Tennessee Titans were one of three teams to contact free agent PK Paul Edinger (Bears). Due to the NFL meetings nothing more is expected to happen until the end of the week.

"The Vikings never called back. I don't know where their interest is now."
