Bears | Colombo Ready To Compete

Sat, 20 Apr 2002 17:51:34 -0700

ChicagoSports.com reports Chicago Bears first-round draft pick, OT Marc Colombo of Boston College, is ready to compete in the NFL for a starting position. Colombo likes football "with an edge," a style he thinks will fit perfectly with his new team. "I play very aggressively — not dirty — that's just the way I play," he said Saturday. He missed the final three regular-season games last season after tearing part of his quadriceps muscle near his right knee. Following an extensive rehab, Colombo is ready for a chance with the Bears. Chicago coach Dick Jauron said Colombo and Bernard Robertson, whom the Bears think will eventually be able to play all five line spots, will compete at left tackle. Bears | More On Brockermeyer

Sat, 06 Apr 2002 01:10:28 -0800

Chicago Bears.com reports the team could still re-sign OT Blake Brockermeyer, at a reduced rate. "We had talked to Blake and his agent prior to this about taking a pay cut and he mulled it over as did his agent and felt that it was in his best interest to see if he could pursue other options," GM Jerry Angelo said. "We left the door open for a possible return. I'm not ruling this as a dead issue." His release Friday freed up nearly $3 million under the salary cap. Angelo will continue to talk to agent Marvin Demoff about a new deal but said it was difficult to estimate the chances of Brockermeyer returning to the Bears. Bernard Robertson will likely replace him in the lineup, if he does not re-sign.
