Rookie LB Rocky McIntosh is the only credible alternative now that LB Chris Clemons has been switched to the strongside behind LB Marcus Washington. "Warrick is having a great camp," said assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams. "His suddenness without pads on is excellent. Right now, Warrick has the edge." Holdman is far from secure in his status as a starter. "I'm in better shape and I know the defense a little better so I feel more comfortable, but I can't go in saying it's my job to lose," said the 233-pound Holdman, who's about 10 pounds lighter than he was last season.

Ryan O'Halloran, of the Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs met with LB LaVar Arrington Monday morning, Oct. 3 and Gibbs said that Arrington is 100 percent healthy, but "he's not a starter right now." Linebacker Warrick Holdman has been starting in Arrington's spot and LB Charlie Clemons replaced Arrington in passing situations during Week 4. Furthormore, Arrington denied a FOX report that that he was asked and refused to play special teams. Arrington noted he is surprised by his lack of playing time.

"We're still waiting on him to get back into football shape, to get the feel for the game back, and get the confidence in his knee," linebackers coach Dale Lindsey said of Arrington. "We'll bring him back in slowly, but as much as he can handle and we still function well as a team." The club currently has LB Warrick Holdman as their starter at outside linebacker, an issue Arrington has no qualms with. "I want to see Warrick do well; I want to see all of my teammates do well," Arrington said. "So whatever our roles are, that's what they're going to be."

"The way a lot of teams are going now the [middle] linebacker has a lot of freedom where you just kind of run to the ball," Holdman said. "I think any guy can play any position, especially at linebacker. I really don't know what position [I'll play], but I'm trying to learn all of them."
