Reds | Jumbo Diaz part of bullpen shuffle

Sat, 21 May 2016 18:16:08 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Jumbo Diaz and RP Keyvius Sampson were optioned to Class AAA Louisville Saturday, May 21, and RP Steve Delabar was designated for assignment.

Fantasy Tip: The Reds bullpen has been historically awful, but if you must hunt for saves, Tony Cingrani may be the best bet for now.

Reds | Jumbo Diaz making adjustments

Wed, 18 May 2016 16:08:30 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Jumbo Diaz is working on throwing his changeup softer with Class AAA Louisville to increase the difference in speed between it and his fast ball.

"The same thing happened to me last year, I didn't throw the ball very well in the first half," Diaz said. "I worked on my changeup and I threw the ball down there very well. I'm pitching the same way, I just told Teddy (Louisville pitching coach Ted Power) that I am just going to have fun and pitch the ball the way I want. And everything is working right. I was having fun, I'm comfortable and I was getting them out."

Fantasy Tip: Diaz has the potential to work his way into the closer mix. He is a speculative add in deep mixed leagues, and an arm to watch in all formats. Tony Cingrani has fared well of late with three saves in his past four opportunities, but he is a southpaw, whereas Diaz is a right-handed pitcher. This is a bullpen situation to monitor.

Reds | Jose Peraza sent down

Wed, 18 May 2016 10:14:34 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B/OF Jose Peraza was optioned to Class AAA Louisville Wednesday, May 18, while RP Jumbo Diaz was recalled from the minors.

Fantasy Tip: The Reds' bullpen has been a mess, but Tony Cingrani has converted three of four save opportunities of late. He's a lefty, though, and that presents matchup issues unless you have overpowering stuff, which he does not. Diaz struggled early on but could work his way back into the mix eventually. He's not worth adding for now, though. Peraza should be back at some point, but he's probably not worth holding except in deep NL-only leagues.

Reds | Jumbo Diaz sent down

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 11:53:26 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Jumbo Diaz was optioned to Class AAA Louisville Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz was a popular reliever to target in much deeper leagues for those speculating for saves in Cincy. J.J. Hoover remains the main closer, but he's had a rough go of it early on, as well. If you own Hoover or are looking for other avenues to saves, Tony Cingrani should be your next target for the Reds.

Reds | Jumbo Diaz gets jumbled up

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 17:48:18 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Jumbo Diaz struggled Monday, March 14, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, lasting just 2/3 inning and surrendering three runs on five hits. He now has a 9.00 ERA this spring.

Fantasy Tip: Ouch, not a desirable day for good ol' Jumbo. The 28-year-old is competing for the closer's job in Cincinnati after a decent showing last year in his sophomore season, but this outing will certainly do him no favors. While he has displayed closing potential previously, it's looking like J.J. Hoover will ultimately prevail with the job.
