Blue Jays | Daniel Norris optioned to Class AAA

Fri, 01 May 2015 12:37:02 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris was demoted to Triple-A Buffalo Friday, May 1. It is expected to be temporary, and an opportunity for Norris to reset and work on his consistency to return to the Blue Jays better equipped for the major league level.

Fantasy Tip: Norris is worth stashing in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, but in the majority of formats he can be dropped. He'll hold no FantasyScore value until he returns. Check back for updates on his progress with Buffalo and a potential recall date.

Blue Jays | Daniel Norris is fine

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 13:30:29 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris (arm) underwent tests that "checked out fine" after complaining of a "dead-arm phase," according to manager John Gibbons.

Fantasy Tip: Norris ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is 1-1 with a 6.08 ERA and 1.58 WHIP and 10 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings for the Blue Jays so far. He was an early-season sensation coming of spring training, but the luster has worn off in the early going. Avoid him at FantasyScore for now until he works out his issues.

Blue Jays | Daniel Norris goes 5-plus in debut

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 18:27:23 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris went 5 2/3 IP, while allowing six hits, three earned runs, and two walks with five strikeouts Thursday, April 9, against the New York Yankees. It was Norris' second career major league start.

Fantasy Tip: Norris ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) took a shutout into the fifth inning. Norris' next start is expected to come at home Tuesday, April 14, against the Tampa Bay Rays. If his price remains low, Norris will be an excellent option on FantasyScore.

Blue Jays | Daniel Norris likely to slot third

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 19:13:39 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris will be part of the team's rotation, although the club has declined to give an exact order of its starting pitchers. Norris will be part of a staff which includes SPs Mark Buehrle, R.A. Dickey, Drew Hutchison and Aaron Sanchez. The expectation is that Norris will work as the team's No. 3 starter to get a crack at the lefty-heavy lineup of the New York Yankees in the first week.

Fantasy Tip: Norris is going to be a popular addition in FantasyScore at just $3,000 (or 6.0% of cap). It won't take much to exceed salary expectations, and his inclusion on your daily roster will help save a ton of salary to spread across your other spots.

Blue Jays | Daniel Norris wins fifth rotation spot

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 12:16:00 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris was officially named the fifth starter when the team finalized its roster on Tuesday, March 31.

Fantasy Tip: Norris is the feel-good story of Blue Jays camp, having lived in a van in Florida while camp was going on. He may be worth a late-round flier in AL leagues, as it is likely he will keep the job barring a slump to start the year.

Blue Jays | Daniel Norris intros new changeup

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 12:39:08 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris added a new sinking changeup to his repertoire during his bullpen sessions this week, and he struck out Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones with the pitch twice Wednesday, March 25.

Fantasy Tip: Norris ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is battling for a rotation spot and appears likely to break camp with a starting gig. He has high-end strikeout potential and warrants attention as a late-round flier in the majority of formats. However, his 22 2/3 innings with Triple-A Buffalo and his 6 2/3 with Toronto last season are his only experience above Class AA, so he is extremely green. At his price, he'll make an excellent FantasyScore play, too.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada scratched from start

Sun, 22 Mar 2015 07:33:26 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (ankle) was scratched from his start Sunday, March 22, after slightly injury his ankle during fielding practice.

Fantasy Tip: Estrada is competing for the fifth spot in the rotation, but his 9.39 ERA and 1.70 WHIP though 7 2/3 innings this spring aren't helping his case. More concerning is his 2.3 HR/9 mark this spring, as the long ball has plagued him throughout his career, and his new home ballpark won't help that any. Estrada is a fallback option for the fifth spot, and expect Daniel Norris and Aaron Sanchez to be the preferred options if the youngsters are ready. All three pitchers warrant AL-only attention if they land in the rotation, and Norris and Sanchez have upside in mixed leagues.

Blue Jays | Daniel Norris sharp again

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 20:18:14 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris took another step towards securing a spot in the team's rotation, allowing just two singles in five scoreless innings in a Grapefruit League spring game against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, March 20.

Fantasy Tip: Norris struck out five batters and showed off a 94 mph fastball in the outing. He could be a nice FantasyScore option in season for his strikeouts if he can lock into a rotation job. His chances improved dramatically when Marcus Stroman went down for the season with a knee injury.

Blue Jays | Daniel Norris tosses scoreless outing

Sun, 15 Mar 2015 05:45:41 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk with four strikeouts Saturday, March 14. "He was great," manager John Gibbons said. "He's starting to get stretched out a little bit. He looked a little more relaxed, a little more comfortable. He's starting to build up a little bit, starting to use his breaking ball a little more."

Fantasy Tip: Norris posted an 11.8 K/9 mark across three levels last season in the minors, including 15.1 over 22 2/3 innings at Triple-A Buffalo. He is competing to be the Blue Jays fifth starter, and while the upside is legitimate, fantasy owners shouldn't reach too early for Norris. Those 22 2/3 innings with Buffalo and his 6 2/3 with Toronto last season are his only experience above Class AA. Still, expect Norris to pitch for the Blue Jays at some point this season, even if he doesn't break camp with the big club.

Blue Jays | Daniel Norris to start in TOR rotation?

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 16:58:24 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris is one of three pitchers competing for two spots in the rotation after the likely season-ending injury to SP Marcus Stroman (knee).

Fantasy Tip: Norris was already in the mix for a rotation spot, but his chances of beginning the season in the rotation are greatly enhanced by Stroman's injury. Norris posted an 11.8 K/9 across three minor league levels -- High-A, Double-A and Triple-A -- last year before pitching 6.2 innings for the Blue Jays. As is the case with most young pitchers -- even well-regarded prospects like Norris -- the transition to the majors can be bumpy. He's a late-round flier in standard leagues for his strikeout potential.
