Tigers | Daniel Norris roughed up in rehab

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 23:41:11 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (oblique) allowed five earned runs and five hits over 4 2/3 innings in a minor-league rehab start for Class AAA Toledo Saturday, July 23. General manager Al Avila said if there are no setbacks Norris would join the team Monday, July 25, in Boston.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain what role Norris will fill, as he could move into the rotation spot of Anibal Sanchez or work in middle relief. Avoid him in all fantasy leagues until his role becomes clear.

Tigers | Non-committal on Daniel Norris

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 21:46:23 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (oblique) made a minor-league rehab start Monday, July 18, but the team might not be in a rush after SP Anibal Sanchez posted a quality start Tuesday, July 19. Manager Brad Ausmus was non-committal about a timetable for Norris.

Fantasy Tip: Norris would be worth a look in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues and as a salary saver in DFS play if he can officially return and prove his health in a full start or two without any setbacks.

Tigers | Daniel Norris solid rehab outing

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 19:44:19 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (oblique) allowed a run and five hits over four innings in a minor-league rehab with Class AAA Toledo Wednesday, July 18.

Fantasy Tip: The timetable for Norris is uncertain, and he isn't worth stashing outside of AL-only fantasy leagues.

Tigers | Daniel Norris close to throwing

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 19:16:23 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (oblique) appears to be several days away from throwing a bullpen session, according to manager Brad Ausmus. He has been on the disabled list due to a Grade 1 right oblique strain since July 5, and is expected to need at least one rehab start before coming off the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Norris isn't worth stashing outside of AL-only fantasy leagues. The 23-year-old left-hander is 1-0 with a 4.85 ERA in four appearances (three starts) this year, with three walks and 16 strikeouts in 13 innings.

Tigers | Matt Boyd, Anibal Sanchez set to start

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 13:47:04 -0700

Detroit Tigers SPs Matt Boyd and Anibal Sanchez will start against the Minnesota Twins Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19, respectively. SPs Jordan Zimmermann (neck) and Daniel Norris (oblique) will not be ready to return from the disabled list during this rotation turn, and they both may need a rehab start before being activated from the DL.

Fantasy Tip: Boyd and Sanchez have done nothing to instill confidence in starting them as anything more than contrarian fliers in the daily contests. Similarly, Norris has been limited to just three starts this season and owns a 4.06 mark through his 17 career starts. He's a deep league option when healthy. Stay tuned for updates on Zimmermann, as he's the only universal fantasy option, and he should be stashed everywhere.

Tigers | Return timeline for Daniel Norris

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 14:03:51 -0700

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (oblique) has a Grade 1 right oblique strain and will miss 10 to 14 days, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: Norris is a low-priority stash, and likely isn't worth a roster spot outside of AL-only setups. He does have 16 punchouts through 14 innings, though, so there is some upside. Stay tuned for updates.

Tigers | Daniel Norris placed on DL

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 11:28:47 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (oblique) was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, July 5.

Fantasy Tip: Oblique injuries are tricky for pitchers, so don't be surprised to see Norris out longer than 15 days. Norris had a 4.85 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in his four outings (three starts), but his 11.1 K/9 shows the upside he has in deeper leagues. For now, you should only be stashing him in AL-only universes. Anibal Sanchez will return to the rotation, but he's an extremely risky matchup play in deeper leagues.

Tigers | Daniel Norris suffers oblique strain

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 20:26:10 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (oblique) is set to undergo an MRI on Tuesday, July 5, after he was removed from the game in the third inning of his start on Monday, July 4, against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: The All-Star break can't come soon enough for Detroit's rotation, which lost Jordan Zimmermann to the disabled list earlier today. Owners should prepare for a DL stint here as well. Norris was making only his third start after coming off the shelf with a back injury and missed a month with a right oblique strain last season. There is no clear replacement for him on the roster at the moment.

Tigers | Daniel Norris claims first win of '16

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 16:39:59 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris secured his first win in his second start of the season Wednesday, June 29, opposite the Miami Marlins. The youngster had to labor through five innings, throwing 100 pitches, but managed to surrender only a pair of runs on eight hits and one walk. He also struck out eight.

Fantasy Tip: Overall, a fine outing for the 23-year-old other than the amount of baserunners scattered, as he continues to get settled in again after only recently returning from injury. There could be some value here, with Norris having a really good offense backing him, plus owners should consider that he was the main piece in the David Price deal a year ago, meaning he'll get plenty of opportunities to succeed. If he gets in a consistent rhythm, Norris can be a very useful arm for most fantasy squads.

Tigers | Daniel Norris gives up three homers

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 17:34:33 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris received a no-decision in his first start of the season Thursday, June 23, opposite the Seattle Mariners. The southpaw worked five innings, allowing three runs on six hits, including three home runs. He struck out five and walked none.

Fantasy Tip: Other than being victimized by the long ball, the 23-year-old youngster wasn't bad here, at least for his first start of the year. He displayed solid command, which has sometimes been an issue for him, and the strikeouts were there, too. Norris isn't someone to deploy on a regular basis just yet, but he certainly has the potential in becoming a dependable pitcher in some fantasy formats.
