Tigers | Daniel Norris activated, optioned

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 09:11:39 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (back) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, April 26, and optioned to the minor leagues.

Fantasy Tip: The lefty overcame an injury and cancer in the past year and has had his share of ups and downs after being traded over for the Toronto Blue Jays. The tools are there for him to succeed in the majors, but homer allowance is an issue, and he's pretty raw still. There's a good chance we see him in Detroit's rotation eventually, but you'll be better off taking a wait-and-see approach with him in mixed leagues.

Tigers | Daniel Norris moves to Class AAA

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 11:38:02 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (spine) has moved his rehab assignment to Class AAA Toledo.

Fantasy Tip: It's unknown how many more rehab starts Norris has to make before being activated by the Tigers, but clearly he's getting closer. After an up-and-down 2015, Norris won't be guaranteed a rotation spot once he's healthy. But he has the stuff to be successful if given the chance, so he's worth stashing now in deep mixed and AL-only leagues if you have room.

Tigers | Daniel Norris makes rehab start

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 10:49:26 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (spine) threw 40 pitches in two innings in his first rehab start with Class A Lakeland Sunday, April 10, and he will remain with the team and throw 55 pitches in his next outing.

Fantasy Tip: Norris had an up and down season last year after being sent down and then being diagnosed with cancer. He's off to a bad start this year with his injury and isn't guaranteed a rotation spot when he's healthy. He has the tools to be successful, but you might need to be very patient with him. Stash him in AL-only leagues for now.

Tigers | Daniel Norris placed on DL

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 14:25:16 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (back) is on the 15-day disabled list with a left lumbar spine fracture.

Fantasy Tip: Norris figured to be in the starting rotation when this back trouble popped up. He still may battle for the final spot in the rotation, but no timetable has been given for a return. If you have him stash Norris away, or even pick him up in a deeper league.

Tigers | Daniel Norris to open on DL

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 15:37:13 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (back) will open the season on the disabled list after being diagnosed with three non-displaced fractures in the spinal process, according to trainer Kevin Rand. Norris won't pick up a baseball for five days, and the Tigers are unsure when he'll be able to return. Manager Brad Ausmus said it doesn't look like a long-term injury, though.

Fantasy Tip: That's unfortunate for Norris, who had a rotation spot penciled in if he could stay healthy. The tools are there for Norris, but the young lefty hasn't been able to stay healthy to make an impact. He might be worth a late-round flier in AL leagues, but stay tuned on his timetable for a return.

Tigers | Rotation spot iffy for Daniel Norris

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 13:04:30 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (back) is still awaiting results of tests concerning his lower back stiffness and likely has not built up his pitch count enough to begin the season in the starting rotation. SP Shane Greene is expected to win the job as the No. 5 starter to begin the season, in the opinion of the Detroit Free Press' Anthony Fenech. SPs Buck Farmer and Matt Boyd are also still in consideration, though.

Fantasy Tip: Norris had the inside track on the gig, but between his poor spring (6.00 ERA through six innings) and his current back injury, he appears to be firmly behind Greene. Neither are anything more than cavernous mixed and AL-only options, and Greene's 6.88 ERA last season shouldn't tempt making him a fantasy priority. Expect Norris to win out in the long run. Farmer and Boyd aren't fantasy relevant at this stage.

Tigers | Daniel Norris undergoes tests

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 14:24:58 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (back) underwent tests on his lower back Tuesday, March 22, according to manager Brad Ausmus. The team is awaiting the results on those tests.

Fantasy Tip: Back injuries can be pesky and last awhile, so hopefully this is nothing serious for the 22-year-old southpaw. He's expected to take a vital role on the Tigers pitching staff this year, after performing very solidly when he came over from the Blue Jays in the David Price deal. In eight starts in Detroit, he was 2-1 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, while opponents hit just .216 against him. If he has to miss any time, that would ensure Mike Pelfrey and Shane Greene both crack the rotation.

Tigers | Daniel Norris pulled from start

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 10:28:27 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (back) was removed early from his start Tuesday, March 22, after allowing three runs on three hits after recording just one out. Norris was scratched from his previous spring start with a stiff lower back.

Fantasy Tip: Norris had a rough go of it last year that ended with a cancer diagnosis. He's expected to be fine, but he's not off to a good start this spring, and his latest setback could mean he'll have to open on the DL. Norris has the tools, but he needs more time to put it all together. He shouldn't be drafted unless you're speculating in AL-only leagues.

Tigers | Daniel Norris set to start Tuesday

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 23:07:52 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (back) is scheduled to start the Grapefruit League spring game against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday, March 22. He was scratched last time due to a stiff back.

Fantasy Tip: Norris is competing for the fifth spot in the Detroit rotation. He is worth a look in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues if he wins a job.

Tigers | Daniel Norris scratched

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 12:48:29 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (back) was scratched from his start Saturday, March 19, because of back stiffness. Manager Brad Ausmus said the move was precautionary and that Norris will start Tuesday, March 22.

Fantasy Tip: It does not appear like Norris is dealing with a major injury, so owners should not worry about his status. He pitched well for the Tigers in 2015 and could be a late-round option in deeper league or an attractive waiver wire option if he starts the season strong.
