Rockies | Christian Bergman to the DL

Fri, 20 May 2016 19:25:10 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Christian Bergman (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 20, with a strained left oblique. In corresponding moves, RP Miguel Castro and SP Jordan Lyles were recalled, and RP Scott Oberg was optioned to Class AAA Albuquerque.

Fantasy Tip: Bergman has one start under his belt, but he is mainly a long reliever and a non-factor for fantasy purposes.

Rockies | Christian Bergman facing Cubs Saturday

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 14:50:42 -0700

Correcting a previous report, Colorado Rockies SP Christian Bergman will start against the Chicago Cubs Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Bergman has a 5.43 career ERA through 126 innings, including a 6.14 mark over 70 1/3 innings through his 14 starts. Chicago is a difficult matchup and currently sit at 6-1 for the season. Bergman should be viewed as a desperation start in all fantasy formats Saturday.

Rockies | Colorado alters rotation schedule

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 14:23:33 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa will pitch against the San Francisco Giants Thursday, April 14, and SP Christian Bergman will start against the Chicago Cubs Sunday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Neither arms are great starts against two of the best teams in the National League. De La Rosa is a fringe fantasy option in the majority of leagues and has allowed 12 earned runs through 8 2/3 innings over his first two starts of the season. Bergman checks out as a desperation start against Chicago given his 5.43 career ERA through 126 innings.

Rockies | Christian Bergman to start April 14

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 23:39:01 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Christian Bergman is expected to make his first regular season start Thursday, April 14, against the San Francisco Giants. That is the first time they need a fifth starter.

Fantasy Tip: Bergman is expected to work in long relief after the outing, as Jon Gray will slide back into the rotation once he is healthy. Bergman's fantasy appeal is limited to the deepest of NL-only formats.

Rockies| Christian Bergman to be fifth starter

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 07:39:30 -0700

The Colorado Rockies have named SP Christian Bergman as their No. 5 starter.

Fantasy Tip: Bergman's time in the rotation is likely to be short-lived because SP Jon Gray (abdomen) is expected to come off the disabled list in mid-April. The 27-year-old right-hander went 3-1 with a 4.74 ERA in 30 games (four starts) last season and only posted a 4.9 K/9 ratio. Bergman possesses little value, even in NL-only fantasy leagues.

Rockies | Jon Gray won't be ready

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 11:47:59 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jon Gray (abdomen) will not be ready for the start of the regular season due to an abdominal strain. Gray said he won't be able to pitch in a game for a couple of weeks. He had a 3.86 ERA in five spring training outings. SPs Chris Rusin (finger), Christian Bergman and David Hale are candidates for the fifth rotation spot now that Gray is hurt.

Fantasy Tip: Gray, a former first-round pick, could be ready by late April. Keep tabs on his recovery timeline. There is strikeout stuff here, but he's been too up and down to rely on with any kind of consistency to this point. More patience is required, but he's a prospect to stash in NL-only and keeper leagues.

Rockies | Christian Bergman to start Wednesday

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 22:57:06 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Christian Bergman will make the start Wednesday, Sept. 23, against the Pittsburgh Pirates in place of SP Jorge De La Rosa (Achilles').

Fantasy Tip: Bergman ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) might normally be a solid FantasyScore option in the spot start, but he is facing a strong lineup. Avoid.

Rockies | Colorado youths eyeing rotation spot

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 15:15:49 -0700

Colorado Rockies SPs Jon Gray and Eddie Butler are competing for the final rotation spot, according manager Walt Weiss. Also in the running are SPs David Hale and Christian Bergman.

Fantasy Tip: Gray and Butler have the fantasy upside, with the former being the team's top pitching prospect. Although until there is an official announcement, it is difficult to roster any of the four outside of NL-only formats, especially pitching their home games at Coors Field. It is a situation to monitor, and if Gray or Butler win the job, they could warrant a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues.
