Cubs | Kyle Schwarber not available for trade

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 07:37:04 -0700

Chicago Cubs C/OF Kyle Schwarber (knee) is not available for trade.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber will likely lose catcher eligibility next season, and he'll be an upper-middle outfielder in fantasy. If he regains catcher eligibility next season, he would rise to the pinnacle of the position.

Yankees | Kyle Schwarber the target for Yankees

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 11:04:18 -0700

Chicago Cubs C/OF Kyle Schwarber (knee) still would need to be included in any deal involving New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller being dealt to Chicago, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: There is potential one of the franchises could deviate from their stances, but as it stands, the Chicago brass has made it clear Schwarber is unavailable. It's a situation worth monitoring, though. Miller would challenge to be the best reliever in fantasy as the closer for the Cubs.

Cubs | Kyle Schwarber making progress

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 11:27:08 -0700

Chicago Cubs C/OF Kyle Schwarber (knee) is no longer using crutches as he progresses from reconstructive knee surgery. He has gotten to the point where he is jogging underwater and hopping on the knee in water.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber had an impressive rookie year in 2015 with 16 home runs and 43 RBI in 69 games for the Cubbies. He won't return this year, so he can be left to the waiver wire in redraft leagues. His big power potential in a potent offense makes him worth stashing in dynasty/keeper leagues, though.

Cubs | Kyle Schwarber progressing

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 11:55:29 -0700

Chicago Cubs C/OF Kyle Schwarber (knee) is making steady progress from his torn left anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament. He is off crutches when at the ballpark and has been fitted for a new, less onerous brace he will wear for the rest of his rehab. However, there's no chance for him to return this postseason.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarbs will be a high-end option if he still qualifies at catcher or a midrange outfielder next season.

Cubs | Kyle Schwarber down to using one crutch

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 15:34:03 -0700

Chicago Cubs C/OF Kyle Schwarber (knee) received positive news during his surgery checkup in Dallas Wednesday, June 1. He is also now using just one crutch instead of two.

Fantasy Tip: It will be interesting to see how Schwarber bounces back from his knee injury, and especially how capable he is behind the plate. He should be owned in all keeper/dynasty formats where it is viable because of his endless power potential.

Cubs | Kyle Schwarber has surgery

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 05:59:56 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Kyle Schwarber (knee) had surgery on his left knee Tuesday, April 19, and the team said they didn't discover any nerve damage. Schwarber had a "full reconstruction" of his anterior cruciate ligament and a "repair" of his lateral collateral ligament. He hopes to be ready by spring training next year. If all goes well, he'll continue to catch as well as play the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: He's probably going to lose catcher eligibility in most leagues. That's something that could be difficult to reacquire when he's not catching more than a game or two a week. Keep this in mind when next season rolls around as it will affect his value.

Cubs | Kyle Schwarber scheduled for surgery

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 15:10:49 -0700

Chicago Cubs C/OF Kyle Schwarber (knee) will undergo surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in his left knee this week, according to manager Joe Maddon.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber is expected to be ready for spring training next year, and he shouldn't be owned in any seasonal leagues at this point. Jorge Soler has seen the biggest boost in playing time with Schwarber out, and Soler currently sits with seven runs, two home runs, five RBI and a .235/.333/.412 slash line. Expect a slightly better batting average going forward with the same solid counting stats.

Cubs | Kyle Schwarber to undergo surgery this month

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 17:38:58 -0700

Updating previous reports, Chicago Cubs C/OF Kyle Schwarber (knee) will undergo season-ending surgery on the torn anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in his left knee within the next one to three weeks. If all goes well, he could be ready to return in time for spring training next year.

Fantasy Tip: OF Jorge Soler will see the biggest increase in playing time as a result of Schwarber's injury and he should be viewed as a solid starting outfield option in mixed leagues. OFs Matt Szczur and Tommy La Stella will see slight upticks in fantasy value in NL-only formats, while Javier Baez should also receive a decent amount of playing time once he returns from the disabled list.
