Diamondbacks | David Peralta could return next week

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 23:05:35 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta (back) could rejoin the team at some point next week, according to manager Chip Hale. He went 1-for-6 with a double and an RBI in his first two rehab games for Class AA Mobile.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta has been out over a month now, but luckily for the 28-year-old, it looks like he's finally nearing his return. He's definitely worth scoping out, as he produced an impressive .312/.371/.522 slash line with 17 homers and 78 RBI a year ago in his sophomore season. Due to Arizona's weak depth in the outfield, he'll also probably be thrust back into a prominent part of the batting order.

Diamondbacks | David Peralta takes BP

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 09:41:33 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta (back) took batting practice for the first time Tuesday, July 5, since going on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta is making good progress and should rejoin Arizona's lineup following the All-Star break. Injuries have made it a disappointing season for Peralta, and he's been unable to prove that last year wasn't a fluke. On the year he's slashing .259/.308/.442 with four home runs and 15 RBI. He can be very productive against righties, though, and you should look to stash him if you have the room in deep mixed formats.

Diamondbacks | Arizona receiving reinforcements soon

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 05:57:02 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta (back), INF/OF Chris Owings (foot) and OF Socrates Brito (toe) are all expected to return from the disabled list following the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta is the only one of the three with fantasy appeal across all formats, and he should be stashed everywhere. Owings and Brito are best left to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. When everyone is healthy, Michael Broun's playing time projects to take a hit.

Diamondbacks | David Peralta begins baseball activity

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 14:15:48 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta (back) swung a bat for the first time Friday, July 1, since being placed on the disabled list Monday, June 20. He said he felt great after taking 30 swings off a tee, and he may take batting practice Monday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Peralta is a solid fantasy asset, but he's been limited to just 41 games this year. He remains a viable stash option in the majority of seasonal leagues, but Peralta is clearly not close to returning.

Diamondbacks | David Peralta to DL

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 07:51:44 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, June 20, with a lower back sprain. OF Socrates Brito was recalled from Class AAA Reno.

Fantasy Tip: Brito is starting in center and hitting sixth Monday, and he should see quality time there the next two weeks. Brito didn't set the world on fire with a .289-5-30 line and three steals in 218 at-bats at Triple-A, but Michael Bourn hasn't shown he still has it enough to hold Brito out of center field.

Diamondbacks | David Peralta may go on DL

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 12:54:30 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta (back) may need to be placed on the 15-day disabled list if his injury lasts for at least one week, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta has missed the last three games because of his tight back, so owners will need to keep an eye on the situation. Brandon Drury likely would receive most of the work in right field if Peralta goes on the disabled list and would be a decent option in deeper mixed leagues.

Diamondbacks | David Peralta remains sidelined Sunday

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 08:19:30 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta (back), INF Jean Segura and C Welington Castillo are not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Zach Eflin Sunday, June 19. INF Phil Gosselin will lead off and play second base, C Chris Herrmann will bat fifth and start behind the plate, OF Brandon Drury will bat seventh and play right field and SS Nick Ahmed will bat eighth and play shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Herrmann and Drury are the best bets for daily fantasy players searching for productive sources of salary cap relief, although both players have struggled recently. Herrmann is batting .282 with six home runs and 23 RBI through 103 at-bats but is just 2-for-11 over the past two weeks. Drury is hitting .270 with eight home runs and 18 RBI through 55 games but has collected only nine hits over his last 53 at-bats (.170), while striking out 18 times.

Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta (back) remains out of the starting lineup versus Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff Saturday, June 18, although he could return for the series finale Sunday, June 19.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta said his back was feeling better Saturday but the club decided to give him another day off as a precautionary measure. He is batting .259 with four home runs and 15 RBI through 41 games this year and should only be viewed as a viable option for NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Diamondbacks | David Peralta sitting vs. Phillies

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 13:06:52 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF David Peralta is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 17. OF Michael Bourn is starting in center field and batting second against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners have to come to terms with the fact that Peralta isn't going to play against left-handed hurlers, which significantly limits his upside and means you have to monitor his schedule closely, especially in weekly leagues. He isn't without value, though. His modest five-category returns are worth owning in all but the shallowest of seasonal leagues. Bourn's active 9-for-52 run at the dish is what you should expect from him going forward. He's not a viable fantasy option outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Diamondbacks | Jake Lamb, David Peralta out vs. lefty

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 10:15:00 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb and OF David Peralta are not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed SP Clayton Kershaw Wednesday, June 15. 3B Brandon Drury is starting at third base and is hitting second, while OF Rickie Weeks draws into left field and is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Against the tough lefty, Lamb and Peralta receive a day off. Even though Drury and Weeks both are in prime lineup spots, not many folks will be fond of them in daily leagues because of the matchup against the toughest pitcher in baseball. You'd be wise to look elsewhere.
