Brewers | Corey Knebel rehab update

Sat, 28 May 2016 11:55:37 -0700

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers RP Corey Knebel (oblique) is slated to make two rehab appearances for Class A Brevard County and two appearances for Class AAA Colorado Springs before being activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Knebel has not pitched at all this year but was effective in a setup role for Milwaukee last season, posting a 3.22 ERA in 48 appearances with 58 strikeouts over 50 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander could be useful in NL-only fantasy leagues once he is healthy because of his high strikeout totals.

Brewers | Corey Knebel close to rehab assignment

Fri, 27 May 2016 16:53:46 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Corey Knebel (oblique) is set to throw live batting practice Saturday, May 28, and he'll go on a minor league rehab assignment after that if all goes well.

Fantasy Tip: Knebel has yet to pitch this year due to injury but was solid with a 3.22 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 10.4 K/9 in 50 1/3 innings in 2015. He has strikeout stuff worthy of a ninth-inning gig, but he'll be in a setup role with Jeremy Jeffress locking down the ninth this season. Knebel is a saves target in NL-only leagues but can also be useful for his ratios when healthy.

Brewers | Matt Garza, Corey Knebel set for bullpens

Wed, 18 May 2016 14:59:31 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (lat) and RP Corey Knebel (oblique) will throw their first bullpen sessions since sustaining injuries Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: There is very limited fantasy value here, and even in NL-only formats, neither hurler are must-add arms. Knebel does have some strikeout upside given his career 10.5 K/9 through 59 innings, but you still might want to see him prove his health on the mound before acquiring his services.

Brewers | Corey Knebel on the mend

Tue, 17 May 2016 23:10:50 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Corey Knebel (oblique) could throw off a mound this week. He has been out all season with a left oblique injury.

Fantasy Tip: Jeremy Jeffress has been great converting all 11 of his save chances. Knebel's ship has probably sailed for now in the closer mix, but he's still a high-strikeout pitcher that can help in NL-only formats at some point.

Brewers | Three Brewers pitchers progressing

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 15:49:38 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Will Smith (knee) will begin jogging soon, according to manager Craig Counsell. SP Matt Garza (lat) and RP Corey Knebel (oblique) are both "progressing the right way."

Fantasy Tip: All three pitchers are currently on the DL and won't be back for a while. With Jeremy Jeffress looking good in the closer's role, Smith and Knebel have become afterthoughts for Milwaukee's bullpen. Garza is one to watch when he returns in deep mixed leagues, but he's not worth stashing for now.

Brewers | No progress for Corey Knebel

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 11:55:31 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Corey Knebel (oblique) hasn't had any progress from his oblique strain.

Fantasy Tip: There remains no timetable for a return for Knebel. Oblique injuries for pitchers are nagging and can linger for long periods of time, so you'll need to be patient if you're stashing him in AL leagues. Jeremy Jeffress has looked good in his save opportunities to begin the year and should be owned everywhere.

Brewers | Corey Knebel to DL

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 09:21:50 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Corey Knebel (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique Saturday, April 2.

Fantasy Tip: With both Knebel and Will Smith opening on the DL, Jeremy Jeffress now has a clear shot at the permanent closer's job to begin the season. The hard-throwing right-hander should be added in all formats if he's still available.

Brewers | Matt Garza to DL

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 11:44:28 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (shoulder) was put on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendonitis Monday, July 6, and RP Corey Knebel was recalled from Class AAA Colorado Springs in a corresponding move. The DL stint is retroactive to July 3.

Fantasy Tip: Garza ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) should be dropped in all shallow leagues if he was still owned. He was having a rough season with a 4-10 record, a 5.55 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP in 16 starts. It's unknown who will replace him in the starting rotation. Stay tuned.
