Chiefs | Charcandrick West contract details

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 11:50:43 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West was signed to a two-year contract extension worth $3.6 million with $2.35 million guaranteed.

Fantasy Tip: West had a big impact in his rookie season with Jamaal Charles (knee) injured for most of the year, and he rushed 160 times for 634 yards and four scores and also caught 20 passes for 214 yards and another touchdown. His role will be scaled back a bit with Charles healthy, but West has RB4 value in point-per-reception leagues as Charles' handcuff.

Dolphins | Knile Davis among Dolphins' pursuit

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 11:47:35 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Knile Davis is a player the Miami Dolphins have expressed interest in. Davis is believed to be on the trade block. The Dolphins also expressed interest in RBs Jamaal Charles, Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware, but those talks appeared to go nowhere.

Fantasy Tip: Davis could be an RB3 if he landed in a prominent situation like Miami.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West, Spencer Ware extended

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 09:16:54 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RBs Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware are both signing contract extensions Thursday, March 31, after the two combined for more than 1,000 yards in 2015 after RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was out for the season. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: West and Ware were nice fantasy fill-ins for those that were scrambling to replace Charles early in the year. With Charles expected to return healthy in 2016, though, their roles will be cut back a bit. Perhaps KC will use them both more to preserve Charles, but less frequent touches will knock their fantasy value back down. West could still be an RB4 in deeper leagues, though.

Chiefs | Decision time on Jamaal Charles

Sat, 23 Jan 2016 15:53:44 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) was hurt and then the team went on average 135.9 yards - fifth in the league - in 11 regular season games with RBs Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware. He has a $2 million report-to-training camp bonus due in July, and he could be asked to take a pay cut and/or relinquish that bonus to return while earning it back through incentives.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has been a productive back in this league, but he has had multiple injuries to his anterior cruciate ligament and he is getting up there in age. Fantasy owners should be preparing for a steep decline going forward.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West leads the backfield

Sat, 16 Jan 2016 17:14:05 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West carried 17 times for 61 yards and a touchdown and has two catches for 15 yards in a 27-20 loss to the New England Patriots in the divisional round of the playoffs Saturday, Jan. 16.

Fantasy Tip: West was effective at times after Jamaal Charles was lost for the year, but as long as Charles is ready for the start of 2016, West will only have value as a potential handcuff.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West struggles in win

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 21:21:15 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West posted just 34 rushing yards on 13 carries in the Week 17 game against the Houston Texans, and he added one reception for minus-2 yards.

Fantasy Tip: West was outplayed by Spencer Ware, who had 16 runs for 76 yards and a touchdown. Ware is the player for FantasyScore owners to target heading into the wild-card game against the Houston Texans next Saturday.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West back at full strength

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 15:02:32 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West ran for 76 yards and scored one touchdown in a 34-14 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: West ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) has battled injuries in the past few weeks but appears to be back to near normal. He's effective now in daily FantasyScore contests.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West runs 10 times

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 21:09:49 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West ran 10 times for 54 yards in the Week 14 game against the San Diego Chargers, and he was targeted once in the pass game with no receptions. He had a 63-yard reception called back due to an offensive pass interference call on TE Travis Kelce.

Fantasy Tip: West saw a majority of the carries after Spencer Ware left the game with an injury to his ribs. West could be a sleeper fantasy option heading into Week 15 against a poor Baltimore Ravens defense, especially if Ware is inactive.

Chiefs | RBs to rotate in KC

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 09:59:13 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West and RB Spencer Ware will likely continue to rotate, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Both could still have value, but obviously it's not ideal for either back. West ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) will probably be the multiple-down guy with Ware ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) coming in for red zone situations. West is a risk against the San Diego Chargers at his price, while Ware makes a decent midrange grab on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West, Spencer Ware probable

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 15:16:04 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) and RB Spencer Ware (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 4, and are listed as probable for the Week 13 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: West ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) should regain his starting role, but Ware likely will have solid role in the offense after his play the last few weeks. West probably has more fantasy value at this point, but both players could be starting options for owners.

Chiefs | KC running backs have full practice

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 17:10:25 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RBs Charcandrick West (hamstring) and Spencer Ware (hamstring) both practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: West ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) appears ready to return to duty against the Oakland Raiders, but we expect Ware ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) will continue to remain involved in some capacity. Even while sharing touches, West, as the go-to running back, has appeal on FantasyScore against a top-10 matchup against the run.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West will practice fully

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 09:55:51 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) will be a full participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Fantasy Tip: West ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) has a decent matchup against the Oakland Raiders this week and will be a high-end RB2 consideration on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | KC ground game excelling

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 11:16:20 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RBs Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware are averaging 152.6 yards per game during the team's five-game winning streak. With RB Jamaal Charles earlier in the year, the Chiefs were averaging 109.8 rushing yards per game.

Fantasy Tip: With West injured and sitting out in Week 12, Ware filled in admirably for fantasy owners who took a chance on him. It's unclear if West is in line to return this weekend, but whoever faces the Oakland Raiders as the starting running back is certainly worth a look on FantasyScore at a cheaper salary. The Raiders are a top-10 PPR fantasy matchup for running backs.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West out for Week 12

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 07:40:03 -0800

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) will not play in Week 12's game against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Remove West ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) from all fantasy lineups immediately. Spencer Ware ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) will serve as the starter against the Bills, on the heels of a two-touchdown performance against the Chargers in Week 11, with Knile Davis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) serving as the backup.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware to start against BUF

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 07:05:31 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware will be the starting running back for Week 12's game against the Buffalo Bills. RB Knile Davis will also be active for the game. RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) is considered a long-shot to play, although the condition of his hamstring has improved.

Fantasy Tip: Ware ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) had 96 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns in Week 11's game against the San Diego Chargers and should be a solid option in all fantasy formats this week. Davis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and West ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West questionable

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 14:54:20 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 27, and is listed as questionable for the Week 12 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: West ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) did not practice at all this week, so owners will need to check the inactive list to see if he will play. Owners should have other options ready in case West is ruled out. Spencer Ware ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) would start if West does not play and could be a solid fantasy option since he played well in relief in the last game.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West out again Friday

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 10:35:40 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) is out of practice Friday, Nov. 27.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look good for him this weekend. Spencer Ware ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) broke out with an 11-96-2 game after West's injury last week. He's an RB2 option against the Buffalo Bills on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West idle Thursday

Thu, 26 Nov 2015 10:56:39 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) didn't practice Thursday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Friday will be a big day to determine whether West ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) will face the Buffalo Bills this week.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West sits Wednesday

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 10:50:20 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) is out of practice Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Fantasy Tip: West ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) seems iffy against the Buffalo Bills this week. Monitor his practice reps the next two days before using him as an RB2 on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West leaves early

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 15:31:57 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) left the Week 11 game against the San Diego Chargers due to a hamstring injury. He is questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs have a comfortable lead, so it might be Spencer Ware finishing up the game, much to the dismay of West's owners in FantasyScore and standard leagues. West's injury is one to watch going forward.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West has been awesome

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 13:39:38 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West has averaged 133 yards from scrimmage in the last three games.

Fantasy Tip: With Jamaal Charles done for the rest of the year, West will continue to have a huge role in this offense. Based on his workload alone, he has RB2 value basically every week. In Week 11 against the San Diego Chargers -- one of the worst rush defenses in the NFL -- he'll be a strong play in all formats.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West posts giant line

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 22:39:50 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West ran 24 times for 69 yards and a touchdown in the Week 10 game against the Denver Broncos, and he added three receptions for a game-high 92 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: West was having a strong game, but an 80-yard touchdown in the second half turned it into a giant stat line. He has been a tremendous value in FantasyScore, and he isn't even close to being pushed for carries by Knile Davis or De'Anthony Thomas.

Chiefs | Knile Davis inactive for Week 10

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 12:13:36 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Knile Davis is inactive against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Nov. 15. RB Spencer Ware should back up RB Charcandrick West.

Fantasy Tip: Ware will play sparingly as long as West is healthy. Davis' fantasy value appears to be nearly non-existent at this point.

Chiefs | Knile Davis unlikely to play

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 08:30:14 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Knile Davis is expected to be deactivated for Week 10's game against the Denver Broncos. RB Spencer Ware is expected to serve as the backup to RB Charcandrick West.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has averaged just 2.4 yards per carry on 21 rushing attempts this season and hasn't seen an increase in playing time despite Jamaal Charles going down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 5. Ware ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has four carries for 20 yards over the past two weeks. Neither player is a great fantasy option at this point.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West on hot streak

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 07:06:37 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West leads the AFC with 103.5 rushing yards per game over the last three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: West ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) has a date with the stout Denver Broncos defense this week, and he's a low-end RB2 on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West has another good outing

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 15:50:04 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West rushed for 20 carries and 97 yards in a 45-10 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Nov. 1.

Fantasy Tip: West ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should have the job as long as he doesn't have a bad outing. He's been very effective in relief of Jamaal Charles so far, so he can be a decent option if you want to save some FantasyScore cap money.

Chiefs | Four Chiefs listed as probable

Fri, 30 Oct 2015 15:29:35 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (groin), WR Jeremy Maclin (concussion), QB Alex Smith (thumb) and RB Charcandrick West (pectoral) all practiced in full Friday, Oct. 30, and are all listed as probable for Week 8 against the Detroit Lions in London.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) becomes a sleeper candidate on FantasyScore, and Maclin ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) could be stacked with him against a Detroit secondary that likes to give up a lot of big plays to their opponents through the air. That also makes Kelce ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) a pretty safe tight end pick. West ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should see plenty of touches again in this one, and he has flex worthiness on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Four Chiefs practice in full

Thu, 29 Oct 2015 16:17:43 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (groin), WR Jeremy Maclin (concussion), QB Alex Smith (thumb) and RB Charcandrick West (pectoral) practiced in full Thursday, Oct. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Kelce ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) is the safest Chiefs player on FantasyScore this weekend. Smith ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) and Maclin ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) are a worthy stack duo in daily games against a Detroit defense that is plenty vulnerable. West ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is the primary back now for KC and has midrange flex worthiness.

Chiefs | Three KC starters have full practice

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 15:46:48 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (groin), QB Alex Smith (thumb) and RB Charcandrick West (pectoral) all put in full practices Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Kelce ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has another good matchup and continues to be one of the safer tight end picks on FantasyScore. Smith ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) is a sleeper this weekend in London against a beatable secondary. West ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has clearly separated himself as the lead back with Jamaal Charles out for the year, and he's not a bad flex option in PPR setups like FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West solid in relief

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 15:14:07 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West was strong in place of RB Jamaal Charles (knee) on Sunday, Oct. 25. West ran for 110 yards on 22 carries and scored one touchdown in a 23-13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: West ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) will be a decent replacement for Charles, but keep an eye on how he does in another game so you have a decent sample size to choose from.

Chiefs | HC believes in Charcandrick West

Sat, 24 Oct 2015 12:33:51 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West is able to handle the starting running back job, according to head coach Andy Reid. West is expected to be the Chiefs' primary ball-carrier with RB Jamaal Charles (knee) out for the year.

Fantasy Tip: The stat sheet may not coincide with Reid's vote of confidence after West totaled just 36 yards, but he did receive the most carries out of Kansas City's running backs. The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to allow a rushing touchdown to running backs this year, however, so West ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) may not be the best play on FantasyScore in Week 7.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West fails to impress

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 19:12:58 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West had nine carries for 33 yards and one catch for six yards in a 16-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: West ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) had four more carries than Knile Davis ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) and was the more effective back. That being said, West didn't exactly impress either. He isn't going to replace Jamaal Charles' production, and he is a matchup play at best at FantasyScore.

Chiefs | KC eager to see Charcandrick West

Sat, 17 Oct 2015 15:35:39 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West has the team eager to see what he can do in Week 6. "Quietly, they kind of like West," ESPN.com's Adam Teicher said. "The term has been used to me, 'a poor man's Jamaal Charles.' They think there are a lot of similarities in how they go about business. Now, he's not as good as Charles, don't mistake that. But they're kind of eager to see what he can do." Teicher said RB Knile Davis could get more of the goal-line opportunities because he's the bigger back. But the Chiefs might prefer West in every other situation since he's a much better pass-catcher, a more versatile runner and likely at least as good in pass protection. Teicher doesn't expect any running back to carry the load the way Charles did. But if one does emerge in that role down the road, West has a better chance than Davis.

Fantasy Tip: West ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) faces the Minnesota Vikings, who are in the middle of the pack as far as defending the running back position. West has some upside at a midrange price on FantasyScore.

Chiefs | Running back committee without Jamaal Charles?

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 09:45:39 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RBs Charcandrick West and Knile Davis both expect to split carries with RB Jamaal Charles (knee) expected to miss the rest of the season, and head coach Andy Reid said the two running backs will continue to split time without committing to anything on the depth chart. West had seven carries for 31 yards while Davis had just two carries for two yards in Week 5. "I'm not saying who is or is not the feature guy, but we need both of them," Reid said. "Both their games are different. We'll just see how that goes. You saw both of them played today, so we'll get back to the drawing board on that and get it right."

Fantasy Tip: West has been the primary backup to Charles this year after a solid preseason, so he'll likely have the first shot at the majority of the carries for the rest of the year. He's the pickup if you own Charles or are desperate for another running back. However, don't expect a ton of production from either West or Davis with Charles out of the picture.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West is guy to acquire?

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 15:38:28 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West ran seven times for 31 yards in the Week 5 game against the Chicago Bears once RB Jamaal Charles (knee) went down.

Fantasy Tip: West ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) worked ahead of Knile Davis ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) in the stunning loss. Both will be players to target going forward if Charles indeed suffered an ACL injury to end his season.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (concussion) suffered a concussion during the third preseason game Friday, Aug. 28.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West making impression

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 13:17:34 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West has opened the eyes of head coach Andy Reid and others during training camp. Reid said West can do everything, but singled out his quickness as a positive. West has impressed in the passing game so far, but Reid said he's still working on his pass protection.

Fantasy Tip: As much as West seems to have impressed this offseason, he still has Knile Davis, De'Anthony Thomas and Cyrus Gray to compete with for playing time even if he does make the final roster. Jamaal Charles will, of course, see most of the playing time out of the backfield. West might be worth drafting in dynasty leagues, but the Chiefs backfield may be too crowded this year for him to be taken in redraft leagues.
