Chiefs | Charcandrick West to miss Week 13

Fri, 01 Dec 2017 11:33:03 -0800

Updating a previous report, RB Akeem Hunt will serve as Kareem Hunt's backup in Week 13 instead of Charcandrick West (personal), who will miss the game due to a family matter.

Fantasy Tip: A demotion of West always seemed unlikely, if only because head coach Andy Reid has consistently valued his contributions on third down and two-minute situations. West should return to his normal role in Week 14.

Chiefs | Akeem Hunt to serve as main backup Week 13

Fri, 01 Dec 2017 11:09:50 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Akeem Hunt will serve as Kareem Hunt's backup in Week 13 instead of Charcandrick West, according to the Kansas City Star's Terez A. Paylor.

Fantasy Tip: This news seems to come out of nowhere, as West was stealing more than his fair share of snaps - mostly on third down - from Kareem Hunt. Since the Chiefs aren't activating anyone off the practice squad, it suggests Akeem Hunt has overtaken West for the main backup role. At this point, it's unclear whether or not Akeem Hunt will replace West on third downs or if Kareem Hunt will assume those duties now.

Fri, 27 Oct 2017 14:17:04 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (concussion) was able to practice in full on Friday, Oct. 27.

Fantasy Tip: West has practiced in full for each of the past two days and he appears on track to play Monday against the Broncos. When healthy he is more of a RB3 in PPR formats, and barely moves the needle for fantasy owners in standard formats as long as Kareem Hunt is healthy.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West to sit Week 7

Wed, 18 Oct 2017 10:05:56 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (concussion) will not play in Week 7 versus the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: It's a slight upgrade for Kareem Hunt, as West has handled most of the third-down work in the first three quarters of games for the last few weeks. Akeem Hunt is the next in line, but it is hard to imagine he'll steal more than a few snaps from Hunt, especially on a short week.

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 15:29:03 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West left the Week 6 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second half and he is being evaluated for concussion.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if and when the third-down back will be able to return. To make matters worse for West's fantasy owners, somehow the helmet-to-helmet hit was not flagged.

Chiefs | Committee for Chiefs in Week 1

Mon, 04 Sep 2017 13:22:06 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RBs Kareem Hunt, Charcandrick West and C.J. Spiller are all expected to see the field in Week 1, according to offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Hunt will start the game, but Nagy said all three are "a big part" of the game plan against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: We'll see how much of this is blowing smoke, but for now we'll take Nagy at his word. Don't let this news keep Hunt out of your starting lineup, though. Hunt is the Kansas City back to start this week and the Chiefs back to own for the year as a whole.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West has lost weight

Mon, 17 Apr 2017 12:58:49 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West has lost 10 pounds this offseason but is as strong as he was last year. He is optimistic that he'll be able to be more explosive in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: West will likely back up Spencer Ware as long as Ware is healthy, although they could make up a formidable committee. West was a big help to Ware and the Chiefs with Jamaal Charles sidelined last season. He'll be one of the top handcuff options in 2017 fantasy drafts.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West getting healthy

Mon, 28 Nov 2016 11:08:29 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West played 33-of-85 snaps in Week 12 against the Denver Broncos and is getting more playing time lately "because he's simply been feeling better" after dealing with ankle and concussion issues this season, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Spencer Ware has slowed down considerably since serving as a high-end RB1 during the first half of the season, but West hasn't really done much to put any heat on him. As evidence of that, Ware saw 19 touches to West's three in Sunday night's overtime win. Ware remains a solid RB2 play, while West is a decent handcuff option at best.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West has decent outing

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 15:09:28 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West rushed for 39 yards on 13 carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9. He also caught three passes for 35 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: West was the starting running back against the Jaguars because of the injury to Spencer Ware, but owners probably were expecting more from him. His value for Week 10 will depend on Ware's status. He can be a No. 2 running back or a flex option if he starts again but probably can be avoided if Ware plays.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West poised to carry the mail

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 13:04:53 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West will get "most of the work" in Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: As expected. West is shaping up to be a DFS superstar this week and potential week-winner for redraft league owners. The Jaguars are coming off a game in which they surrendered 225 total yards and two touchdowns to Tennessee Titans running backs, and Reid may lean heavily on the run as well considering Nick Foles will start for Alex Smith at quarterback this week. Bishop Sankey may see limited work, but he is not worth adding in any format at the moment.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West doesn't do much

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 19:28:12 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West ran four times for just five yards in the Week 7 game against the New Orleans Saints and he had one catch for just three yards on three targets.

Fantasy Tip: West did absolutely nothing with his five touches, and he would probably be relegated to the bench or a healthy scratch if Jamaal Charles were 100 percent healthy right now. Avoid him in all fantasy leagues.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 14, and is not on the injury report for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: West should be active for the game but likely will be behind Jamaal Charles and Spencer Ware in terms of playing time. Owners probably can avoid West unless one of the other running backs suffer an injury.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West fully practices

Thu, 13 Oct 2016 15:56:40 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Oct. 13.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West won't play in Week 4

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 12:28:53 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (ankle) has been ruled out for the team's Week 4 game Sunday, Oct. 2, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Jamaal Charles is expected to make his season debut in this Sunday night encounter, though it's probable that he'll be on a snap count as he's eased back into game action. Thus, owners might want to give him another week before relying on his services. Meanwhile, Spencer Ware can be comfortably slotted in as an RB1 this week.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West sitting out

Thu, 29 Sep 2016 10:27:11 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (ankle) will not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: West may be in danger of missing the team's Week 4 game, so owners will need to keep an eye on the situation. Chiefs | Ware, West split snaps evenly in Week 1

Tue, 13 Sep 2016 09:31:07 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RBs Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West each played 34 of the team's 71 snaps in a Week 1 overtime victory over the San Diego Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the equal distribution of snaps, Ware owned a clear 18-9 edge in touches and 199-23 advantage in total yards. While West needs to be owned in most leagues should Ware get injured, it is becoming very clear the Chiefs' brass views the latter as the more dangerous offensive threat. Ware should be considered a RB1 for as long as Jamaal Charles is sidelined.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware expected to start

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 18:50:38 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware is likely to start against the San Diego Chargers in Week 1, according to head coach Andy Reid, but Reid said RB Charcandrick West and RB Knile Davis will also be used.

Fantasy Tip: If you plan on gambling on one of Kansas City's backs in Week 1, Ware is your best bet.

Thu, 08 Sep 2016 19:56:27 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (elbow) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

Fantasy Tip: West could be worth a look as a flex option if Jamaal Charles sits out, but Spencer Ware is the preferred option if you are trying to take advantage of Charles' knee injury.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West takes part in practice

Wed, 07 Sep 2016 15:16:23 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (elbow) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: West will have a role on offense in Week 1 but could receive more work if Jamaal Charles is not able to play. West can be a decent flex option in leagues this week.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West sees first-team reps

Tue, 30 Aug 2016 19:05:12 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West has been seeing some starter's snap in training camp and the preseason, although RB Spencer Ware has seen the majority with RB Jamaal Charles (knee) slow to recover.

Fantasy Tip: West might see some meaningful touches early in the season as the Chiefs bring Charles along slowly, but he is only worth a look as a depth player in standard fantasy formats, and not someone to rely upon as a starter.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West works in practice

Wed, 24 Aug 2016 19:25:09 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (elbow) was back at practice Wednesday, Aug. 24. He has been dealing with an elbow injury.

Fantasy Tip: West is behind Jamaal Charles and Spencer Ware on the depth chart, so he is only worth a look in the deepest of fantasy leagues at this point unless injuries open up a more prominent role.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West day-to-day

Mon, 15 Aug 2016 15:27:55 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (elbow) is considered day-to-day because of an elbow injury.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that West is dealing with a minor injury, but owners should keep an eye on the situation. He should receive limited touches behind Jamaal Charles and Spencer Ware this season but could still be a late-round option in some leagues as a possible handcuff.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West out of practice

Mon, 15 Aug 2016 06:52:02 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (undisclosed) is out of practice Monday, Aug. 15.

Fantasy Tip: West is third fiddle behind Jamaal Charles and Spencer Ware. The shifty West has talent, but if the other two are healthy, there aren't enough footballs to go around for him to show it much. He's worth a depth grab late in drafts.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West holds his own

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 15:10:40 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West played behind RB Spencer Ware in the team's preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, Aug. 13, but flashed on a 25-yard run and finished with 35 yards on four carries.

Fantasy Tip: West doesn't project to have an early-season role with Jamaal Charles and Spencer Ware ahead of him on the depth chart, but this performance is just another reminder the Chiefs are as deep at running back as any team in the league. The Abilene Christian product will need some injuries to happen in front of him to be relevant in fantasy, but he has already shown he can produce when given the chance.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware considered the backup

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 15:14:27 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware is viewed as the backup running back behind RB Jamaal Charles, according to ESPN.com's Adam Teicher. Teicher did say that Ware and RB Charcandrick West would both play if Charles was injured.

Fantasy Tip: Ware and West proved their worth last season after Charles went down. Their fantasy value is limited as long as Charles is healthy, though. Both Ware and West are low-end RB4 to high-end RB5 considerations in the Chiefs' backfield.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West still sick

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 12:54:12 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (illness) is making progress from an undisclosed illness, according to head coach Andy Reid, but he has missed four straight days of practice.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't sound like West is dealing with anything serious. He should maintain his status as Jamaal Charles' backup in 2016 and is a top handcuff later in drafts.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West contract details

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 11:50:43 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West was signed to a two-year contract extension worth $3.6 million with $2.35 million guaranteed.

Fantasy Tip: West had a big impact in his rookie season with Jamaal Charles (knee) injured for most of the year, and he rushed 160 times for 634 yards and four scores and also caught 20 passes for 214 yards and another touchdown. His role will be scaled back a bit with Charles healthy, but West has RB4 value in point-per-reception leagues as Charles' handcuff.

Dolphins | Knile Davis among Dolphins' pursuit

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 11:47:35 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Knile Davis is a player the Miami Dolphins have expressed interest in. Davis is believed to be on the trade block. The Dolphins also expressed interest in RBs Jamaal Charles, Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware, but those talks appeared to go nowhere.

Fantasy Tip: Davis could be an RB3 if he landed in a prominent situation like Miami.
