Buccaneers | Jameis Winston learning quickly

Sun, 10 May 2015 20:34:08 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston was praised by head coach Lovie smith for his ability to learn the playbook. "He's been cramming like it's a final exam, and he's doing a good job of it," Smith said. "We've seen marked improvement from the moment we gave him his playbook. Jameis is a bright guy. He'll be able to get it all."

Fantasy Tip: It is no surprise to hear Smith supporting his young quarterback in the early going. Winston should be considered a QB2 heading into his rookie season.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston files counterclaim

Sat, 09 May 2015 23:15:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston filed a counterclaim against Erica Kinsman, the woman who originally sued Winston for sexual assault.

Fantasy Tip: Winston will try not to make this an issue on the field, but you have to wonder if this would impact his production and mental preparation if the case was tried just prior to the season starting. Winston will have the chance to step in, learn the system and start right away, but monitor this situation.

Buccaneers | Mike Evans approves of Jameis Winston

Wed, 06 May 2015 13:36:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston has received the approval of WR Mike Evans. "He can sit in the pocket, deliver the ball and that's more opportunities for the receivers," Evans said, emphasizing his desire for a pocket passer.

Fantasy Tip: Winston's ability to be composed and pass from the pocket will benefit both Evans and Vincent Jackson, who can both spread the field and score on any play downfield. Assuming Winston starts, it could take some time for him to acclimate to the professional level, but Jackson and Evans should still be in the WR2 neighborhood with WR1 potential. Winston, meanwhile, is a backup fantasy quarterback for his rookie season, even with his valuable weapons.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston likely to start

Tue, 05 May 2015 05:43:06 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston will be given every chance to start in 2015. "It's pretty difficult to say with a straight face that we're not going to give Jameis that opportunity to win it right away," general manager Jason Licht told PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio. "He's the first overall pick. We think he's very advanced in terms of his ability to play and pick up schemes and concepts and learn the playbook relative to most rookies, or any rookie we've scouted in recent history. So he's gonna have every opportunity."

Fantasy Tip: Winston will be a midrange QB2 with upside in 2015.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston already causing trouble?

Fri, 01 May 2015 09:31:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston was encouraged by the team to remove a photo on his Instagram account that showed him in front of a plate of Alaskan king crab legs. Winston had a civil lawsuit against him in college after leaving a grocery store without paying for $34 worth of crab legs and crawfish.

Fantasy Tip: While Winston may have been a risky No. 1 overall pick by the Bucs, he enters his rookie season with plenty of weapons on offense to at least give him a chance to be serviceable down the stretch as a weak QB2 to back up a stud fantasy quarterback.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston selected first overall

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 15:36:15 -0700

lorida State QB Jameis Winston was selected first overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Winston will immediately compete for the starting quarterback role with the Bucs this summer, and his direct competition will be Mike Glennon. Winston is the most pro-ready QB in this draft, but he'll surely have his ups and downs with the Bucs in his rookie season. In fantasy circles, he's a weak QB2 in yearly formats.
