Buccaneers | Jameis Winston struggled in red zone

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 17:23:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston completed only 42% of his passes in the red zone in 2015, which was the second worst red-zone efficiency among quarterbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Winston threw for 4,042 yards and 22 touchdowns in his rookie season but should see his touchdown total increase if he improves his red zone work. He will have a good receiving corps to work with in 2016 and should be considered a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston drops 20 pounds

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 05:54:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston has dropped 20 pounds this offseason, according to his farther, Antonor.

Fantasy Tip: Winston has been working with renowned trainer Tim Grover, and he looks good heading into training camp. The lost weight should aid his mobility in the pocket, but it really doesn't change his fantasy outlook much. He's a high-end QB2 in fantasy.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston undervalued

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 16:22:13 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston amassed more than 4,200 total yards and 28 total touchdowns in his rookie campaign last year.

Fantasy Tip: Winston did struggle with interceptions, throwing 15, but that's normal for a rookie. He finished as the No. 13 scoring quarterback in 2015, just behind Aaron Rodgers, but is only being drafted as the No. 20 so far this offseason. The sophomore quarterback could even improve this year with another offseason under his belt.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston can improve

Fri, 20 May 2016 15:13:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston can improve on his technique and accuracy because he completed only 58.3% of his passes in 2015, according to quarterback coach Mike Bajakian. "Now we're at a point where he's proficient enough in the offense where we can focus on the details of his technique, from his footwork to his release to accuracy, moving in the pocket, all those little details of playing the position are now a matter of attention for us," Bajakian said.

Fantasy Tip: Winston posted solid numbers in 2015 but ranked 32nd among quarterback in completion percentage. He should see his numbers improve if he is more accurate with his passes. Winston likely will be a backup quarterback in most leagues but can be a starter against certain opponents.

Buccaneers | OC had questions about Jameis Winston

Fri, 20 May 2016 14:56:43 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken said he was not a big fan of QB Jameis Winston when he entered the NFL, but his opinion has changed after working with him this offseason. Monken said the passing game needs to improve under Winston because it was inconsistent in 2015. "I think from the outside you would've looked at it with all the things that were publicized in the past about him and who he is. I was dead wrong. He wants to win as much as we do. He's a competitive joker, man, he's smart, he's intelligent ... you can win a lot of games with guys like that," Monken said.

Fantasy Tip: Winston had a solid rookie season when he recorded 4,042 yards, 22 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 16 games. Winston should be more familiar with the offense this season and likely will see an increase in his stats. Winston can be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in some deeper leagues but should be a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston loses weight

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 11:38:41 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston has put in work to enter the 2016 season in much better shape, and his teammates were impressed with the results during voluntary minicamp Tuesday, April 26. Winston's trainer, Tim Grover, said Winston lost 18 pounds since last year. "I was joking with him the other day. He took his shirt off, and I said 'Man, what happened to the belly?' He's got a six-pack like me. He's put in a tremendous amount of work and I think it's going to be a great year for him and this whole team," WR Mike Evans said.

Fantasy Tip: Winston was impressive in his rookie year, throwing for 4,042 yards, 22 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also ran 54 times for 213 yards and another six scores. Less weight will make him more mobile and possibly able to become more dynamic in an offense that has plenty of weapons around him. Winston isn't a surefire QB1, but he could be in discussion as a low-end QB1 on draft day.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston in better shape

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 11:48:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston said he's been eating better and working hard on conditioning since the end of the 2015 regular season.

Fantasy Tip: An improved physique doesn't necessarily translate to better production on the field, but it certainly doesn't hurt. Perhaps Winston will try to be more mobile in 2016. Even with the weapons he has and the shape he's in, he's still not in QB1 territory.

Buccaneers | Jameis Winston wants Jalen Ramsey

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 11:16:09 -0700

Florida State CB Jalen Ramsey received a heap of praise from former Florida State teammate and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston, who said he would gladly play with Ramsey again. "[The Seminoles] definitely have the best player in the world in Jalen Ramsey," Winston said. People talk about his position, but Jalen is the best cornerback, safety… I will take a pay cut to play with him again. He has a fierce mentality."

Winston added that he has already texted general manager Jason Licht about drafting Ramsey. It's highly unlikely that Tampa Bay would be able to draft Ramsey at their current No. 9 pick, however.
