Diamondbacks | Peter O'Brien, others coming up

Fri, 27 May 2016 15:03:57 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Peter O'Brien and RPs Silvino Bracho and Dominic Leone were recalled from Class AAA Friday, May 27. RP Josh Collmenter (shoulder) was also reinstated from the 15-day disabled list. SPs Shelby Miller (finger) and Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) were placed on the disabled list in corresponding moves.

Fantasy Tip: O'Brien is a big-time power prospect who has transitioned from catcher to the outfield. He hit 26 homers in the minors in 2015 and is a waiver wire target for home runs in the short term in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. His stay could be short, though, with David Peralta returning from the DL soon. Bracho has potential to be a successful late-inning reliever, but he's a watch list guy for now. Collmenter is likely to serve in a long-relief role despite the D-backs having a need for starters at the moment. He can be ignored in fantasy.

Diamondbacks | Arizona acquires Welington Castillo

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 16:35:22 -0700

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired C Welington Castillo and RP Dominic Leone, SS Jack Reinheimer and OF Gabriel Guerrero Wednesday, June 3, in exchange for OF Mark Trumbo and RP Vidal Nuno.

Fantasy Tip: If not immediately, Castillo ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) projects to take over as the everyday catcher for Arizona sooner than later, and he has a respectable bat. From 2012 to 2014, Castillo had a .257/.326/.398 slash line over 1035 plate appearances. He'll remain a matchup play, at best, for FantasyScore players, but Castillo is a low-end option in two-catcher, NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. With Trumbo out of the picture, Yasmany Tomas should also receive close to everyday at-bats, and he should be owned in the majority of year-long leagues.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo acquired by M's

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 16:30:55 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Mark Trumbo was acquired by the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, June 3. RP Vidal Nuno was also sent to Seattle in exchange for C Welington Castillo, RP Dominic Leone, SS Jack Reinheimer and OF Gabriel Guerrero.

Fantasy Tip: Other than Nelson Cruz, the Mariners have lacked significant punch in their lineup, especially in the outfield. Trumbo ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) joins a much less crowded outfield picture, which is good news for consistent playing time. However, a move to pitcher-friendly Safeco Field will put a damper on his fantasy value, although it probably won't drastically affect it. Trumbo is worth a significant bid in AL-only leagues if you're in need of power.

Mariners | Plenty of bullpen competition

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 14:55:08 -0800

Seattle Mariners RP Charlie Furbush likely will have a roster spot to open the year, as manager Lloyd McClendon wants two left-handed relievers. The other could be one of RPs Lucas Luetge, Rafael Perez or David Rollins. RPs Yoervis Medina, Danny Farquhar, Tom Wilhelmsen, Dominic Leone and Carson Smith will likely battle for the other four bullpen slots outside of RP Fernando Rodney. Ps Mark Lowe and Erasmo Ramirez are also options.
