Mariners | Luis Sardinas recalled from Tacoma

Wed, 25 May 2016 13:28:27 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Luis Sardinas was recalled from Class AAA Tacoma Wednesday, May 25. In a corresponding move, SS Chris Taylor was optioned to Tacoma.

Fantasy Tip: Sardinas could see some time at shortstop and split starts with Shawn O'Malley while Ketel Marte is on the disabled list. Sardinas has gone 13-for-32 with Tacoma, but he has a career .223/.265/.269 slash line through 257 plate appearances at the highest level, and he has no power. Neither Sardinas or O'Malley offer enough fantasy value to be considered anything more than desperation owns in all formats.

Mariners | Ketel Marte placed on DL

Sun, 22 May 2016 09:32:36 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte (thumb) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 22, because of a sprained left thumb. The team recalled SS Chris Taylor from Class AAA Tacoma.

Fantasy Tip: There is no official timetable for Marte, so owners will need to keep an eye on the situation. Taylor likely will receive most of the starts at shortstop with Marte out but probably will be limited to AL-only leagues at this point.

Mariners | Ketel Marte close to call-up

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 11:49:45 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte is expected to be called up from Class AAA Tacoma after the M's optioned SS Chris Taylor back to the minors Thursday, July 30. Marte was hitting .314 in 65 games for the Rainiers and was the starting shortstop for the World Team in the All-Star Futures Game.

Fantasy Tip: Marte is MLB.com's 71st-ranked prospect, and he's been on the fast track in Seattle's minor league system ever since signing out of the Dominican Republic in 2010. Marte is only 21, and even though the switch-hitter has shown an ability to make contact and hit for average in the minors, a learning curve should be expected at the major league level. He should certainly be added in all dynasty and keeper leagues if he's available.

Mariners | Robinson Cano serving as DH

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 13:12:59 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano will bat cleanup and serve as the designated hitter against Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle Sunday, July 26. INF Chris Taylor will bat seventh and play second base.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) is 9-for-32 against Buehrle in his career, with two doubles, three homers and 11 RBIs. Taylor ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has also experienced some success versus the lefty, with three hits in five lifetime at-bats against Buehrle.

Mariners | Chris Taylor back in lineup

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 11:48:31 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Chris Taylor will bat eighth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison Saturday, July 25. SS Brad Miller is getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is only batting .179 with one RBI through 78 at-bats and is not a great FantasyScore option.

Mariners | Brad Miller out of lineup

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 07:20:30 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller is out of the starting lineup Sunday, July 19, against the New York Yankees. SS Chris Taylor starts at shortstop and he'll hit eighth in the order against LHP CC Sabathia.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is hitting .278 against lefties this season, and he can be considered as a low-ceiling option on FantasyScore.

Mariners | Brad Miller out of lineup

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 15:02:50 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller is not in the lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim left-handed SP Hector Santiago Friday, July 10. SS Chris Taylor is starting at the 6 and hitting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) hasn't done enough with the stick this year (.176/.233/.235 with no home runs and one RBI in 68 at-bats) to convince daily gamers to run with him as a sleeper, even with a spot atop the Seattle batting order.

Mariners | Brad Miller out Tuesday

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 17:02:31 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller is not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers left-handed SP Kyle Ryan Tuesday, July 7. SS Chris Taylor is starting at the 6 and hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Miller could be forming a platoon at shortstop for the time being. That'll lessen the fantasy value of Miller in all traditional leagues. Taylor is hitting only .154 (10-for-65) with no homers and just one RBI on the season. Avoid him in all daily games.

Mariners | Brad Miller still the SS

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 16:45:16 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller will remain as the team's primary shortstop despite the call-up of SS Chris Taylor from the minors Thursday, July 2.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) remains a low-end shortstop play on FantasyScore, but there's plenty to value to be had if he's facing the right right-handed pitcher. Miller has all seven of his dingers and an .821 OPS against righties in 2015.

Mariners | Brad Miller projects to be everyday SS

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 15:10:13 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller is likely to receive the majority of starts at shortstop with SS Chris Taylor being optioned to Class AAA Tacoma Monday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is mired in an active 1-for-25 skid, so while it might be helpful for him to have a consistent position to go along with everyday at-bats, he doesn't hold seasonal value outside of AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. FantasyScore players would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach until he heats up, too.
