Chargers | San Diego adds Andre Williams

Sun, 04 Sep 2016 10:10:22 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams was claimed off waivers by the San Diego Chargers Sunday, Sept. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will be part of a committee with Melvin Gordon and Danny Woodhead. He likely will have a limited role in the running game and probably can be avoided in a majority of fantasy leagues.

Giants | Andre Williams no longer in NYG's plans

Sat, 03 Sep 2016 14:39:22 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams was released Saturday, Sept. 3.

Fantasy Tip: It's hardly surprising given how thoroughly unproductive Williams has been as a pro, although he deserves kudos for collecting a NFL paycheck for as long as he did with a 3.2 yards-per-carry average over 305 attempts. There's a good chance he may remain a free agent for a while. Rashad Jennings should be locked in as the early-down back for the early part of the season, although rookie Paul Perkins could make some noise later in the year.

Giants | Andre Williams sees first-team reps

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 19:04:06 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams saw first-team reps in practice Wednesday, Aug. 10. Beat writer Jordan Raanan said Williams is in the lead for the No. 2 job behind RB Rashad Jennings.

Fantasy Tip: Williams has been a bit of a disappointment since coming out of Boston College, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry. He is a short-yardage and goal-line type back who is only worth using in the deepest of fantasy leagues, regardless of what the depth chart might say. His touchdown total dipped from seven to one from 2014 to 2015, so it's debatable if Williams will even pop in scoring-only leagues.

Giants | Andre Williams on the hot seat

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 05:41:10 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams likely needs a stellar training camp to avoid being cut, in the opinion of SNY's John Fennelly.

Fantasy Tip: Williams has done very little in his first two seasons. He would need that stellar camp and then some to be worth taking as an RB5 right now.

Giants | Andre Williams drawing praise from coach

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 14:30:40 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams is poised for a bounce-back year in the opinion of head coach Ben McAdoo.

Fantasy Tip: It is unclear exactly what McAdoo means by "bounce-back year" for Williams, whose best season was averaging 3.3 yards per carry as a rookie in 2014. Williams reportedly dropped weight in the offseason, but he has no business stealing reps from Rashad Jennings or rookie Paul Perkins unless he has completely transformed his running style. Consider him an extreme longshot to be a fantasy factor in 2016.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa playing catch-up

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 19:21:53 -0700

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa (leg) missed the entire spring practice sessions due to a lower leg injury, and that set him back in the pecking order among the team's tailbacks. He is expected to battle RB Andre Williams for the No. 3 job, while RB Bobby Rainey is also in the mix. The team invested a fifth round pick on RB Paul Perkins, so he is expected to make the team, too.

Fantasy Tip: The winner of the No. 3 job will be behind Rashad Jennings and Shane Vereen on the depth chart, so they can mostly be avoided in all fantasy leagues initially.

Giants | Andre Williams fighting for spot?

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 13:35:03 -0700

New York Giants RBs Andre Williams and Orleans Darkwa are likely competing with each other for a roster spot, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.

Fantasy Tip: Williams hasn't played to his full potential in his first two seasons, but he did have a solid rookie campaign two years ago. Darkwa hasn't really done much in New York, and he may be the odd man out. Williams is the more intriguing fantasy option, but even he should be viewed as a late-round flier.

Giants | Andre Williams quicker during OTAs

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 06:49:14 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams appeared quicker and more fluid after transforming his body in the offseason, and he caught the ball out of the backfield well, according to NJ.com's James Kratch.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants backfield was a fantasy mess in 2015 because of the committee approach, and it doesn't project to be much different this season. Williams scored seven touchdowns in his rookie season but dropped to just a single score last year and only received 88 rushing attempts and three targets. At this point, Williams is a speculative flier to grab late in cavernous leagues and should be left to the waiver wire in most setups.

Giants | Andre Williams shed weight over offseason

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 16:57:11 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams said his body change was drastic after losing 12 pounds over the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is hardly on the fantasy radar as it stands, but he did score seven touchdowns in his rookie campaign, and his plodding running style might be a thing of the past with him in better shape. Still, leave Williams to the waiver wire in most leagues, as he is nothing more than a speculative stash in setups with deep benches.

Giants | Minimal impact from Paul Perkins?

Thu, 12 May 2016 14:05:17 -0700

New York Giants rookie RB Paul Perkins isn't expected to have much of an impact in his rookie season, in the opinion of Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. Vacchiano anticipates RB Andre Williams to have the first shot at being the short-yardage running back and Jennings' backup, with RB Shane Vereen reprising his pass-catching and third-down role.

Fantasy Tip: Rashad Jennings will start, but the hype train on Perkins may need to hit the brakes a little bit before the season starts. Perkins will need to work his way up to take playing time away from Jennings, Williams and Vereen, so don't draft him as more than a speculative RB5 in traditional leagues.

Giants | Andre Williams still a Giant

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 13:12:24 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams won't be outworked by anyone, according to head coach Ben McAdoo, who said not to give up on the running back.

Fantasy Tip: A good work ethic is all well and good, but that hasn't translated much to the field of late for Williams. His 2015 season was a big letdown after he ran for 721 yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie year in 2014. There's still a role for him on the Giants, apparently, so don't completely rule out drafting him.

Giants | Andrew Williams could be released

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 16:21:30 -0800

New York Giants RB Andre Williams isn't versatile enough in today's NFL and could be released this offseason. Former head coach Tom Coughlin had a soft spot for Williams.

Fantasy Tip: Williams had just 88 carries for 257 yards and one touchdown after scoring seven times in 2014. He was little used by the G-Men in 2015 and doesn't have much of a role moving forward. Williams is a bruiser in short-yardage and goal-line situations, but he's too hard to rely on in most fantasy formats.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa, Shane Vereen do little

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 22:34:24 -0800

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa carried three times for 10 yards in the Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins Monday, Dec. 14, and he added a six-yard catch. RB Shane Vereen had one grab for 10 yards and one carry for no gain. RB Andre Williams ran three times for just three yards.

Fantasy Tip: Darkwa appears to slowly (and unofficially) have jumped Vereen and Williams on the depth chart for the second spot on the running backs pecking order. Still, as long as Rashad Jennings is healthy none of the trio is worth a look in most fantasy formats.

Giants | NYG struggle to run the ball

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 19:50:58 -0800

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa ran eight times for a team-high 23 yards in the Week 13 game against the New York Jets, and he had a 10-yard catch. RB Andre Williams rushed six times for 22 yards, while RB Rashad Jennings had five totes for 14 yards and a 19-yard catch. RB Shane Vereen also had four runs for 13 yards and two grabs for seven yards.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants wanted to run the ball more effectively in Week 13, but not one piece of the four-player monster really seemed to be able to build any momentum. The Giants backfield is a fantasy nightmare, so stay away.

Giants | Andre Williams the odd man out?

Sat, 31 Oct 2015 17:10:10 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams is the most likely running back to lose touches to RB Orleans Darkwa going forward, but Jordan Raanan of NJ.com believes, the Giants will use a four-back rotation against the New Orleans Saints in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Averaging just 2.9 yards per carry, Williams ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) had little value to begin with, and with Darkwa ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) possibly cutting into his carries, Williams needs to be avoided at FantasyScore.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa turning heads

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 20:54:23 -0700

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa scored the team's only offensive touchdown in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, and he likely earned more playing time at the expense of RBs Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams. "He certainly did look good out there," head coach Tom Coughlin said after the win. "His touchdown run when he cut back behind the slanting defensive line was really quite an outstanding play."

Fantasy Tip: Darkwa ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) isn't quite worth using in FantasyScore yet, but monitor this situation closely. The former Tulane standout could emerge as a useful option sooner rather than later if he continues to turn heads.

Giants | Orleans Darkwa to see more touches?

Mon, 26 Oct 2015 09:51:31 -0700

New York Giants RB Orleans Darkwa had played on just two offensive snaps heading into Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, but he was the leading rusher in the preseason by averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo was non-committal if Darkwa would see more work behind RBs Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen and Andre Williams.

Fantasy Tip: That question was answered: Darkwa had eight carries for 48 yards and a touchdown against Dallas. While he could continue to be mixed in, the G-Men just have too many mouths to feed for Darkwa to continue to be anything more than a deep sleeper option for FantasyScore users.

Giants | Andre Williams goes nowhere

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 22:11:38 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams carried three times for zero yards in the Week 5 game against the San Francisco 49ers and he had no receptions or targets.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) was a stud in college, but he has been a bust at the pro level. He is clearly behind Rashad Jennings ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) and Shane Vereen ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) for touches, so avoid him in FantasyScore.

Giants | Andre Williams doesn't do much

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 16:43:16 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams carried 11 times for just 35 yards in the Week 4 game against the Buffalo Bills. He did not have any receptions, although he was targeted once.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is the short-yardage hammer for the G-Men, but the better FantasyScore option is Rashad Jennings ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) as long as he is healthy.

Giants | Tough sledding for Andre Williams

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 21:25:09 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams had 14 carries for 29 yards and a touchdown in a 32-21 win over the Washington Redskins in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) led the team in carries, but Rashad Jennings ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) had a team-high 32 yards on 11 carries. Neither back is a great play at FantasyScore with the ground game struggling overall, but Williams' role as the goal-line back gives him more upside.

Giants | Andre Williams leads backfield

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 17:04:23 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams had six carries for a team-high 43 yards in a 24-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: While Williams ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) led the team in rushing, Rashad Jennings ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) had a team-high nine carries but managed just 12 yards. At this point, the only back worth considering at FantasyScore appears to be Shane Vereen ($4,600, 9.2% of cap), who has 12 catches through two games.

Giants | Andre Williams could move up

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 09:20:05 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams could overtake RB Rashad Jennings as the lead back sometime this season, maybe even to open the season. Williams has worked on his receiving game this offseason and studied Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's patience with the ball.

Fantasy Tip: Williams figures to at least be active in the red zone and is in the RB4 conversation.

Giants | Andre Williams working with first-team

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 18:12:08 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams has been receiving a majority of the reps with the first-team offense during practice.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Williams is going to replace Rashad Jennings as the starter, but at the very least, it sounds like Williams is going to have a big role in the offense, even if Jennings is healthy. For now, consider Williams a RB4.

Giants | Rashad Jennings working with twos

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 05:22:49 -0700

New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings has seen quite a bit of second-team repetitions in camp with RB Shane Vereen and RB Andre Williams seeing most with the first team.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings should still be a factor, but the receiving back and the ground-and-pounder seeing more starter reps is concerning. Jennings is an RB3 in fantasy, while Vereen is a high-end RB2 in PPR leagues. Williams is a low-end RB4 right now.

Giants | RB roles TBD for Giants

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 15:26:10 -0700

New York Giants RBs Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen and Andre Williams will use training camp to determine their roles in the offense, according to running backs coach Craig Johnson. "I think that as we get closer to games and time for the opener, we will find out more role defining roles for them," Johnson said. "Right now, I try to put them in every situation so I can see what they can do. I try not to say, for instance, 'Shane is only going to run the ball.' I want to see if Shane can catch the ball. I know he can, but I want to see if he can under pressure situations and vice versa. I do that for all of our guys because that way you can kind of find out what they all can do."

Fantasy Tip: Jennings likely will receive most of the carries this season and may have the most fantasy value among the running backs. Vereen probably will be more valuable in point-per-reception leagues because of his ability to catch the ball. All three running backs should be selected in drafts this season since they will all receive playing time.

Giants | Andre Williams struggled to gain yards

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 14:48:19 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams gained two or fewer yards in over half of his rushing attempts last season and 23.6% of his carries went for zero yards or negative yards, according to Pro Football Focus. Williams did average 3.1 yards per carry after he was contacted behind the line of scrimmage, which was fourth best in the NFL.

Fantasy Tip: Williams' role will be determined during training camp, but he will likely be used when Rashad Jennings needs a break and possibly in short-yardage situations. Williams could be a handcuff to Jennings in fantasy leagues this season since he likely would replace Jennings if he was injured.

Giants | Andre Williams likely to see larger role

Sat, 07 Feb 2015 16:24:17 -0800

New York Giants RB Andre Williams will likely see a larger role in the offense in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: It was reported last month that the team was seeking a veteran, change-of-pace back for Rashad Jennings. That would have slotted Williams back a bit, but this report bodes well for his prospects. He'll be a decent RB4 in traditional drafts.

Giants | Andre Williams expected to play

Sat, 27 Dec 2014 09:21:41 -0800

New York Giants RB Andre Williams (shoulder) is expected to play in Week 17 even though he is listed as questionable.

Fantasy Tip: Williams likely will lose some carries since Rashad Jennings is back but will still receive some carries. Owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options than Williams this week.

Giants | Andre Williams goes off in win

Sun, 07 Dec 2014 20:27:21 -0800

New York Giants RB Andre Williams rushed for a season-high 131 yards in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans, including a 50-yard touchdown scamper.

Fantasy Tip: Williams was a great FantasyScore addition with Rashad Jennings banged up and limited due to an ankle injury.

Giants | Rashad Jennings to miss Week 14?

Tue, 02 Dec 2014 16:30:35 -0800

New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (ankle) is still recovering from an ankle injury he suffered in Week 13. The team signed RB Chris Ogbonnaya Tuesday, Dec. 2, perhaps indicating that Jennings might not be able to go this week.

Fantasy Tip: Andre Williams ($4,500) would get the start if Jennings is unable to play and has a terrific matchup versus the Tennessee Titans, who have given up the most rushing yards to running backs this year.

Giants | Andre Williams to continue to share

Fri, 07 Nov 2014 07:41:38 -0800

New York Giants RB Andre Williams is expected to continue to lose carries to RBs Peyton Hillis and Michael Cox.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($3,800; 7.6% of your cap) had 12 carries in a lopsided game last week and faces a tough Seattle Seahawks defense in Week 10. Rashad Jennings (knee) is on the mend, so Williams' fantasy light is dimming. Look elsewhere this week on FantasyScore. Hillis and Cox aren't worth the flier.

Giants | Peyton Hillis favored on passing downs

Thu, 16 Oct 2014 11:18:03 -0700

New York Giants RB Peyton Hillis played 31 snaps in the team's Week 6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles because the coaching staff doesn't yet trust RB Andre Williams on passing downs. Williams and Hillis are expected to share the workload in the backfield without RB Rashad Jennings (knee) again in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: Hillis should see a healthy amount of snaps again this weekend, especially if the Giants fall behind again and are forced to air it out. He's intriguing and probably worth a flier because of his cheap FantasyScore price of $3,200 (6.4% of cap), but Dallas' recently stout run defense will make him a risk.

Comment (0) | Share: Tweet!Share on Facebook | Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Giants | Rashad Jennings ruled out

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 10:44:41 -0700

New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (knee) will definitely not play in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Jennings sprained the medial collateral ligament in his knee in Week 5. The team is hoping he can return after their bye week. RBs Andre Williams and Peyton Hillis will be relied on again, and Hillis could see additional snaps if QB Eli Manning is under heavy pressure.

Fantasy Tip: Hillis actually played more snaps than Williams last weekend. An improved Dallas defensive front against a shaky Giants offensive line could spell trouble for the running game for the second straight week. Williams ($5,100; 10.2% of cap) is a shaky investment at FantasyScore.

Giants | Andre Williams has favorable spot start

Sat, 11 Oct 2014 12:44:33 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams faces a Philadelphia Eagles defense that is allowing just under 104 rushing yards per game. Williams will start in place of Rashad Jennings this week.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is a bargain this week at just $5,200 on FantasyScore.

Giants | Giants confident in Andre Williams

Tue, 07 Oct 2014 09:35:03 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams has the confidence of head coach Tom Coughlin and the rest of the coaching staff that he can take on a bigger workload with RB Rashad Jennings (knee) injured. "I am very confident (in Williams taking a bigger role)," Coughlin said. "The other thing that he did that was great was the third-and-seven first-down run. A lot of that was on his own outside the flank of our blockers. He was able to pick up that first down. That was really indicative of people trying to tackle the ball and get the ball out, and he made that play. When you have a young guy, you really get into great, great detail even more about pass protection. He has done a good job when he has been in there. He is going to have to do even better."

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($5,200 at FantasyScore) becomes a nice option in Week 6 against a Philadelphia Eagles defense that has had trouble stopping power rushers this year.

Giants | Rashad Jennings won't need surgery

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 13:03:50 -0700

Updating previous reports, New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (knee) will not need surgery to fix a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. However, he's expected to miss at least a few weeks due to the injury. RB Andre Williams will take over as the starting running back in the meantime, with RB Peyton Hillis as the backup. Williams ran for 65 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries after taking over for Jennings in Week 5. Jennings compared this injury to the one he had in Week 1 in 2012, which kept him sidelined for two games.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously you'll want to stay away from Jennings at FantasyScore for at least a few weeks, but Williams should be a popular waiver wire acquisition leading up to Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles will give Williams a tasty matchup, too.

Giants | Andre Williams has 22 touches

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 14:29:58 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams carried 20 times for 65 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 game against the Atlanta Falcons, and he added two receptions for 18 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Williams was getting extra work with Rashad Jennings leaving the game early due to a knee injury. If Williams gets the start in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles, he will be an intriguing FantasyScore option if his salary remains low.

Giants | Andre Williams solid in blowout

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 21:44:22 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams had 15 carries for a team-high 66 yards and a score Thursday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Williams saw plenty of action after the Giants turned their Week 4 meeting with the Redskins into a blowout early in the second half. Don't expect Williams to see such a heavy workload most weeks.

Giants | Could use Andre Williams more

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 15:39:22 -0700

The New York Giants could use RB Andre Williams more in Week 4 if the team gets an early lead and has to rely on the running game, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN New York. The team is monitoring RB Rashad Jennings after he carried the ball 34 times in Week 3, and believe he will be at full strength, but with the short week the team could rely on Williams a bit more.

Fantasy Tip: It would make sense for Williams to see more carries in this spot, but it may not be enough to justify using him in FantasyScore this week, especially since there is no doubt Jennings will see the majority of the workload.

Giants | Andre Williams punches one in

Fri, 22 Aug 2014 20:40:05 -0700

New York Giants RB Andre Williams carried 11 times for 49 yards and a touchdown in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 22 against the New York Jets. He was also targeted once, but he did not have any catches.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is looking like the short-yardage back for the G-Men, and he could be the worst enemy to fantasy owners of Rashad Jennings while serving as a potential touchdown vulture. In scoring-only leagues, the rookie Williams could emerge as a must-start option.

Giants | Andre Williams needs to pass protect

Tue, 05 Aug 2014 13:16:57 -0700

New York Giants rookie RB Andre Williams needs to prove that he is valuable in the passing game, both as a receiver and pass blocker, before he will see significant playing time. "I have the pass protection down to a good degree," Williams said. "I think the thing they look for, first and foremost, is just making sure the running back knows who he has in protection. The technique can always be worked on." Williams saw time with the first-team in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 3, because the team wants to see if he can be brought along quickly to contribute immediately.

Fantasy Tip: Williams could easily earn the backup role to Rashad Jennings if he proves he can handle passing situations early in the year. Peyton Hillis is listed as the backup for now, but Williams clearly has more upside as the handcuff to Jennings.

Giants | David Wilson not allowed to return

Mon, 04 Aug 2014 10:02:01 -0700

New York Giants RB David Wilson (neck) has been shut down by team doctors because of the neck injury he suffered last week, according to a source. It is believed the injury could be career ending.

Fantasy Tip: Rashad Jennings likely will be the team's starting running back with Wilson not being able to compete for the job. Jennings should be considered a low-end No. 2 or No. 3 running back in most leagues. Andre Williams could become more valuable with this news and should be seen as a No. 4 running back.
