49ers | Frank Gore not happy with offense

Mon, 22 Sep 2014 10:43:42 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore wasn't pleased with the offensive game plan in which they unleashed five-receiver sets against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 because of a lack of healthy tight ends. The receiver-heavy look didn't feature a running back, and the Niners went with a no-huddle offense. QB Colin Kaepernick's 78.4 completion percentage (29-for-37) was his best as a starter. Gore had just one carry in the second half and finished with six rushes for just 10 yards. RB Carlos Hyde had three carries for 13 yards.

Fantasy Tip: This approach won't always be the game plan. Expect a more balanced focus on offense with Vernon Davis (ankle) returns to the starting lineup. However, Gore's involvement should be monitored. If he continues to lose touches, he probably won't be much more than a flex play.

49ers | Carlos Hyde probable for Week 3

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 16:48:59 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (calf) was a full participant in practice Friday, Sept. 19, and he is considered probable for the Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde is a relatively inexpensive option ($4500 or 9.0 percent of salary) in FantasyScore leagues. He won't see a ton of touches as long as Frank Gore is healthy, but Hyde does get the ball near the goalline. If you want to save salary to spread across other positions, he isn't a terrible RB2 or flex option.

Sat, 13 Sep 2014 23:19:58 -0700

49ers | Carlos Hyde impresses in first action

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 14:32:11 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde ran five times for 39 yards and showed off his skillset in the team's first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens Thursday, Aug. 7. Hyde is expected to have a big role in the offense this year behind RB Frank Gore with RBs Kendall Hunter (knee) and LaMichael James (elbow) injured.

Fantasy Tip: You'll need to keep Hyde's name handy in your fantasy football drafts, especially if you draft Gore. The Niners will want to spell Gore more often as he ages, and Hyde has the upside to become a big contributor for this ground-and-pound offense.

49ers | Carlos Hyde more comfortable

Mon, 04 Aug 2014 12:38:36 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde said he's becoming more relaxed with the offense. Hyde said things are clicking and he's been able to play fast now that he knows his job.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde is listed as the team's backup behind Frank Gore and could be a great value pick if Gore were to be injured for an extended period of time this season.

49ers | Frank Gore unlikely to play in preseason

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 09:47:09 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore is unlikely to play in the preseason this year. RBs Carlos Hyde and Jewel Hampton have both looked good so far during training camp. The injuries to RBs Kendall Hunter (knee) and LaMichael James (elbow) have left the team thin at the running back position. RB Marcus Lattimore isn't practicing yet due to physical limitations and not the mental side of his recovery from a significant knee injury in college.

Fantasy Tip: The Niners have even more reason to try to keep Gore healthy heading into the regular season now. With Hunter out for the year, Hyde's price will rise drastically, likely making him somewhat overvalued as a handcuff to Gore.

49ers | LaMichael James may be odd man out at RB

Sun, 20 Jul 2014 21:00:39 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James could have trouble making the roster this year, according to ESPN.com's Bill Williamson. Williamson believes RB Frank Gore, RB Carlos Hyde, RB Marcus Lattimore, RB Kendall Hunter and FB Bruce Miller will make the roster.

49ers | Kendall Hunter may be No. 2 RB for now

Wed, 25 Jun 2014 18:37:59 -0700

The San Francisco 49ers may consider RB Kendall Hunter as their No. 2 running back at this point, because they know he does well in pass protection and blitz pickup. The team has not seen RB Carlos Hyde and RB Marcus Lattimore in pads at this point and is not sure about their pass protection skills.

49ers | Carlos Hyde has football smarts

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 15:25:03 -0700

San Francisco 49ers rookie RB Carlos Hyde has picked up the team's terminology well in offseason workouts, and he's impressed offensive coordinator Greg Roman with his quick learning. "Since he got here from the draft, really impressed me as a guy that football just makes sense to him. If you could just tell him what to do, and you don't have to tell him too much. And that's a beautiful thing in a running back because they have a lot of adjustments to make and protection, et cetera," Roman said.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde will be a popular draft pick as running back depth or as a handcuff to Frank Gore, who is nearing the end of his career. However, don't forget that Kendall Hunter remains in the picture and would split touches with Hyde should Gore miss time with an injury. Regardless, he's a fine speculative pick with plenty of upside.

49ers | Carlos Hyde ahead of Marcus Lattimore?

Mon, 16 Jun 2014 00:26:36 -0700

ESPN.com's Bill Williamson thinks San Francisco 49ers rookie RB Carlos Hyde will see more opportunities for carries than RB Marcus Lattimore (knee), who is recovering from a major knee injury. The Niners are expected to be cautious with Lattimore.

Fantasy Tip: While Frank Gore is nearing the end of his career and will need to be spelled much more often, don't forget that Kendall Hunter is still on roster and currently ahead of Hyde on the depth chart. Hyde could figure into the team's plans, but unless injuries occur ahead of him, he might not be a major factor.

49ers | Carlos Hyde selected 57th overall

Fri, 09 May 2014 17:57:19 -0700

The San Francisco 49ers selected Ohio State RB Carlos Hyde with the 57th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: The Niners are looking to eventually replace Frank Gore in the backfield, because he's nearing the end of his career. Hyde could wind up being the best value pick of the draft. There are a lot of mouths to feed at the RB position in SF, though, so Hyde will have to earn his touches. This pick puts the futures of LaMichael James and Marcus Lattimore in question.
