49ers | Carlos Hyde up-and-down in opener

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 17:23:29 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde mixed in the good with the bad in the team's preseason opener against the Houston Texans on Sunday, Aug. 14, ripping off a tackle-breaking 22-yard gallop up the middle in the first quarter before committing a fumble that led to a Texans' defensive touchdown a few plays later.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde surprisingly saw two targets on the 49ers' opening drive, but Blaine Gabbert missed him badly on both. The third-year back figures to be Chip Kelly's bell-cow for as long as he can handle it in 2016, although it should be noted the Ohio State product hasn't made it through a full season dating back to his college days. Hyde has RB1 upside if he can play all 16 games this season, but owners need to handcuff him with Shaun Draughn, who appears to have a hold on backup duties.

49ers | Carlos Hyde talks 2016 season

Thu, 11 Aug 2016 09:23:43 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde said he views the upcoming season as a "make or break" year. Hyde pointed to how effective the new system can be, noting how current 49ers and then Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly helped Eagles RB LeSean McCoy lead the NFL in rushing in 2013. Hyde also believes the up-tempo approach makes defenders tired and allows for big plays.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde is right about the make-or-break nature of this season, and he offers tremendous upside for fantasy owners to harness. Make him a focal point of your lineup in the third round of PPR drafts.

49ers | DuJuan Harris to be odd-man out?

Wed, 03 Aug 2016 20:24:07 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB DuJuan Harris is projected to be cut by beat writer Grant Cohn, with RBs Carlos Hyde, Shaun Draughn and Kelvin Taylor expected to be the top three backs. Harris is expected to be the odd-man out because he isn't adept at catching the football.

Fantasy Tip: Harris wasn't expected to have much in the way of fantasy value, but if this prediction holds true he can be left off of all cheat sheets entirely.

49ers | Carlos Hyde buying into offense

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 18:19:02 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde said he is excited about head coach Chip Kelly's offensive system and believes it will allow him to showcase all his abilities.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde has battled injuries in his first two seasons, but he could be in line for a big year as the featured back in Kelly's offense. Consider him a mid-range RB2 with upside.

49ers | Two RBs looking to move up order

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 22:13:01 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB DuJuan Harris saw extended reps in the offseason, and he and RB Kelvin Taylor will be looking to move up the depth chart. Currently Harris and Taylor are behind RBs Carlos Hyde and Shaun Draughn in the pecking order.

Fantasy Tip: Harris and Taylor might be worth keeping an eye on this season, as Hyde hasn't been able to stay healthy and Draughn has bounced around the league. Right now Harris and Taylor can be avoided in most fantasy leagues, but remember their names.

49ers | Carlos Hyde sits atop depth chart

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 22:10:55 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde is expected to keep the top spot in the backfield as long as he can stay healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde will see plenty of touches, and he is expected to be a focal point in the passing attack in 2016. He should be drafted as a low-end RB2 with some upside. If he takes off in the passing game he'll be a great option in formats which reward points per receptions (PPR).

49ers | Carlos Hyde to be key in passing game

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 11:35:44 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde is excited that he'll be a focal point in the passing attack in 2016. "I think it's something that's overlooked, but this year we may get to see it," Hyde said. "I like playing receiver. It's another opportunity to get out in space and get the ball in your hands."

Fantasy Tip: Hyde was really never healthy last season with a foot injury that required surgery. He's still unproven, which is likely to keep him in the RB2 mix. However, he could be a dynamic PPR back if everything goes right around him.

49ers | Carlos Hyde praised by head coach

Mon, 16 May 2016 10:36:44 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde was praised by new head coach Chip Kelly recently. "Carlos is a stud. He's been full-go since we started in the beginning of April," Kelly said. "Participated in everything. And he's as advertised. To have someone that size that is that agile, has that vision, it's really impressive to see him work every day. There have been no restrictions on him at all. He's full clear, 100 percent, and he's going. He's really good, we're really excited about him."

Fantasy Tip: Hyde is the clear-cut No. 1 running back in San Fran in Kelly's high-paced offense, and he should be a great fit for Kelly's stretch run plays. As long as Hyde is fully healthy, he should receive a healthy workload and has RB1 upside in 2016.

49ers | Carlos Hyde feels great

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 17:02:24 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (foot) is back to full strength and said his foot is "feeling great." Hyde played in just seven games in 2015 and had surgery late in December. He also slimmed down to 225 pounds this offseason, which is a seven-pound difference from the start of last year. Hyde compares new head coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense to something similar he played in at Ohio State in college.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde is in line to be the main ball carrier in this new offensive system under Kelly. An up-tempo offense should benefit Hyde, although he'll likely be spelled often in the passing game. If Hyde comes into the year fully healthy, he should be targeted as a fine RB2 for fantasy owners.

49ers | Carlos Hyde slimming down

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 09:22:06 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde is working to slim down this offseason in order to be in shape for new head coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense. Hyde's trainer, David Alexander, said he wants Hyde to get down to 220 pounds without losing his power. Hyde is listed at 235 pounds and is now under 230 pounds. He is preparing to see the bulk of the workload in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde looks to be fully recovered from a stress fracture in his foot that cost him nine games last season. If fully healthy, Hyde does figure to see the lion's share of touches in the San Fran backfield, although Kelly will certainly use Bruce Ellington and others in the passing game. Hyde could be the perfect fit for Kelly's system and should be targeted as a fine RB2 on draft day.
