Reds | Raisel Iglesias about a month away

Sat, 21 May 2016 17:49:28 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) could return sometime in June if his rehab goes according to plan, manager Bryan Price said Saturday, May 21.

Fantasy Tip: Iglesias has shown intriguing strikeout potential, and he should be stashed in all formats as he recovers.

Reds | Raisel Iglesias 'pain-free'

Tue, 10 May 2016 16:37:38 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) is now "completely pain-free," according to manager Bryan Price, and will be re-examined on Wednesday, May 11. "We're hoping there's a throwing program that will be set up and he can start here relatively soon as well," Price added.

Fantasy Tip: Iglesias hasn't pitched since April 25, but it looks like he's getting closer to returning. Prior to the injury, the 26-year-old Cuban was consistently solid, going at least five innings and yielding three runs or fewer in all five of his starts, while averaging more than a strikeout per inning. If someone ditched him early, now might be the time for owners to stash him. He could be back in a few weeks.

Reds | Raisel Iglesias still not throwing

Thu, 05 May 2016 15:57:03 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) has not begun to throw and will not return from the disabled list when eligible Wednesday, May 11, according to manager Bryan Price.

"He has to cool off and the inflammation has to cool down before we consider getting him to throw again," Price said. "I would be more optimistic (Iglesias could return) after the midpoint of the month than I would saying by the 15th or by the time we go on the road that he's ready to go. I don't know if I can safely say that right now. We're going to want him to be able to play catch, play long toss, throw a bullpen before thinking about putting him back into a ballgame."

Fantasy Tip: The Reds are going to take a conservative approach with Iglesias, which means fantasy owners could be without his services for a few more weeks. He is worth stashing in the majority of seasonal leagues, so stay tuned for updates.

Reds | Raisel Iglesias placed on DL

Sun, 01 May 2016 10:17:44 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, May 1, because of right shoulder impingement. The team recalled SP Tim Adleman from Class AAA Louisville. The team also transferred C Kyle Skipworth (ankle) from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Tim Adleman is scheduled to start Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates and could stay in the starting rotation if he has a solid outing. Adleman could be valuable in NL-only leagues if he receives multiple starts but probably is not a great option in deeper mixed leagues. Robert Stephenson is also an option to join the rotation while Iglesias is sidelined. He posted solid numbers in his two starts earlier in the season and could be an option for owners on NL-only leagues and some deeper mixed leagues if he joins the rotation.

Reds | Raisel Iglesias scratched

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 23:09:58 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) has been officially scratched from his Sunday, May 1, start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. SP Tim Melville will take his place.

Fantasy Tip: The team doesn't think Iglesias will need the disabled list, which is encouraging. Melville carried a 0-1 record and 11.00 major league ERA, so he carries no fantasy value at this time.

Reds | Raisel Iglesias may miss Sunday start

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 15:41:48 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) may miss his start Sunday, May 1, after he felt a pinch in his right shoulder Friday, April 29. He was examined Saturday, April 30. Class AAA Louisville scratched SP Tim Adleman Saturday in case he has to come up to start Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: From the sounds of it, you can pretty much assume Iglesias will at least have his start pushed back. Keep tabs on whether this will require a DL stint. Adleman is 2-0 with a 4.24 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP at Louisville. He's not worth consideration if he starts Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Reds | Raisel Iglesias has strong showing

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 14:45:46 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias notched his second quality start of the season in four tries Wednesday, April 20, against the Colorado Rockies. He pitched 6 2/3 innings, issuing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out eight.

Fantasy Tip: The strikeouts were a season high and he now owns a solid 22-to-5 K/BB ratio through his first four assignments. With a 3.09 ERA on the year, Iglesias is living up to the hype as a trendy sleeper pick after ending 2015 strong. Owners can continue to trust him while he remains in rhythm. He should continue to be a fine source for strikeouts as well.

Reds | Raisel Iglesias to start opener

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 14:36:32 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias has been named the team's opening day starter.

Fantasy Tip: Iglesias' 4-7 record and 4.15 ERA last year weren't indicative of his skills and second-half gains. Excellent command combined with good swing-and-miss stuff say he is in line for a breakout this year as a fantasy sleeper. Target him for the middle of your pitching staff.

Reds | Raisel Iglesias makes spring debut

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 22:41:37 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) made his Cactus League spring debut Monday, March 14, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, allowing one run and two hits in an inning of work while allowing no walks and one strikeout. He will throw two innings in his next scheduled start.

Fantasy Tip: Iglesias has been rested and working sparingly during the spring, as he makes his way back from a fatigued shoulder. The team has a special pitcher in Iglesias as long as they do not overuse him. For fantasy purposes, he is one of the few Cincinnati options you will want rostered in what could be a 90-loss season.

Reds | Raisel Iglesias throws bullpen session

Sat, 05 Mar 2016 14:16:54 -0800

Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Saturday, March 5. He's moving closer to making his spring debut in mid-March. "It'll give him five starts, and we should be able to get him where he needs to be by the time we need him, which the first date, I think, would be the 10th of April," manager Bryan Price said.

Fantasy Tip: Iglesias is a pick to click as a back-end cog to your fantasy rotation.
