Browns | Isaiah Crowell iffy

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 15:21:52 -0800

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell (hip) was limited in practice for the second straight day Friday, Dec. 5, and is questionable for Week 14 against the Indianapolis Colts. RB Terrance West would likely be the starter if Crowell can't play. However, West fumbled twice last week, leaving head coach Mike Pettine to leave open the possibility that West won't be in the lineup at all this week.

Fantasy Tip: Crowell ($6,100) said yesterday that he expects to play against the Colts. Check back Sunday morning to be sure. If he's playing, he matches up well against Indy, as they've been exploited by similar running backs in recent weeks. Take a flier on West ($4,500) if Crowell is ruled out.

Browns | Terrance West criticized for fumble

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 06:50:02 -0800

Cleveland Browns RB Terrance West fumbled midway through the third quarter Sunday, Nov. 30, and it was returned for a touchdown. Head coach Mike Pettine criticized West after the game. "You can't be that loose with the football, it's inexcusable," Pettine said. "West really changed the whole flow of the game. It would have been a one-score game, and that's the frustrating thing. Close games are going to come down to turnovers. Like I said, the West fumble changed everything. It's inexcusable."

Fantasy Tip: Isaiah Crowell was ineffective with 17 carries for 29 yards, but he continues to be the bell cow back.

Browns | CLE rushing ball well in 2014

Sun, 23 Nov 2014 15:03:02 -0800

The Cleveland Browns have 14 rushing touchdowns this season, which is the most by the franchise since it had 14 in the 1989 season. The team had just four rushing touchdowns last season. Rookie RB Isaiah Crowell leads the way with seven touchdowns, while fellow rookie Terrance West has three. Departed RB Ben Tate (Vikings) also had four.

Browns | RB carousel will continue in CLE

Mon, 17 Nov 2014 07:56:25 -0800

Cleveland Browns RBs Ben Tate, Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West will continue to be mixed and matched on a weekly basis, according to head coach Mike Pettine. Crowell had a critical lost fumble Sunday, Nov. 16, but the team kept going to him despite the miscue. "It's something we'll look at week to week," Pettine said. "We're not just going to pick one. When you go in a game-plan situation you look at what gives us the best chance to win."

Fantasy Tip: This is a muddy situation, and it appears the team could feature any of the backs against a team they feel that back can exploit. Tate appears to be falling out of favor with just two carries in Week 11. Crowell has the advantage for now and serves as a cheap flex option on FantasyScore.

Browns | Terrance West not guaranteed to start

Thu, 13 Nov 2014 13:44:49 -0800

Cleveland Browns RB Terrance West had 94 yards on a season-high 26 carries in the team's Week 10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, but head coach Mike Pettine stopped short of saying West would start in Week 11 against the Houston Texans. "I just control what I can control, and I can control my performance," West said. "The NFL, man, it's a roller coaster. You've always got to be ready for anything and be ready when your number is called. We will see what happens Sunday."

Fantasy Tip: The Browns backfield is a headache for fantasy owners, but it's clear that they favor the rookie West over Ben Tate and Isaiah Crowell. West ($5,600) is the best buy at FantasyScore, but if Cleveland goes with a hot-hand approach, you could be easily disappointed.

Browns | Terrance West earns more touches

Sun, 02 Nov 2014 20:36:56 -0800

Cleveland Browns RB Terrance West carried a team-high 15 times for 48 yards in the Week 9 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, surging ahead of RB Ben Tate who was held to just three yards on 10 carries. RB Isaiah Crowell did not receive an offensive snap. "When you looked at the tape and really compared the three, we feel (West's) really coming on," head coach Mike Pettine said Sunday, Nov. 2. "He's earned those touches, and when he gets out there he does make the most of them."

Fantasy Tip: West made two big plays on the opening drive of the second half, and he was credited with a big block on the game-winning touchdown. He might not have lit it up for fantasy owners, but he impressed the coaching staff and appears to be at or near the top of the depth chart heading into Week 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals. He is worth a look in FantasyScore if the price is right.

Browns | Isaiah Crowell wants to be more involved

Fri, 31 Oct 2014 14:11:41 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell, who played just three snaps and had one carry for one yard in Week 8, is hoping he'll be more involved in the game plan in Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RB Ben Tate played 31 of 56 snaps and had 15 carries for 26 yards last week, while RB Terrance West played 22 snaps and had seven carries for 11 yards. Crowell continues to lead the team in average yards per carry (4.9) and rushing touchdowns (four). He dropped two pitches and had a fumble in Week 6, but Crowell insists that he doesn't have ball-security issues.

Fantasy Tip: Crowell ($3,900; 6.8% of cap) has another great matchup against the Bucs this week, but he also had a great matchup last week, and didn't see any time. Crowell's value rests heavily on whether he can score, so he continues to be a dice roll, especially in this busy backfield.

Browns | Isaiah Crowell sees little action

Mon, 27 Oct 2014 08:50:33 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell had one rush for one yard in Week 8, while RB Terrance West had seven carries for 11 yards. Beat writer Tony Grossi speculated that West must have had better performances in practice than Crowell in the week leading up to the game.

Fantasy Tip: Ben Tate was also ineffective with 15 carries for 26 yards and a touchdown that salvaged his day. This situation could become wide open on a weekly basis in the near future. Tate is still the one to target on FantasyScore. However, his performance against a much-maligned Oakland Raiders run defense is worrisome.

Browns | Terrance West benched

Tue, 21 Oct 2014 06:37:37 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Terrance West was benched Sunday, Oct. 19, after failing to pick up a first down in two short-yardage situations. He had room to run on both carries but danced in the hole on one carry and ran into his lineman on the other.

Fantasy Tip: The team plans to re-evaluate their split at running back, and it's possible West has fallen out of favor enough to become a weekly scratch. Avoid him on FantasyScore for now.

Browns | CLE re-evaluating RB rotation

Tue, 21 Oct 2014 06:36:58 -0700

Cleveland Browns RBs Ben Tate, Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West were held to 69 yards on 33 carries in Week 7, and head coach Mike Pettine suggested a change was coming for the trio. "We'll have a discussion this week as to how to best rotate those guys," Pettine said.

Fantasy Tip: We could see the work limited to just Tate and Crowell, maybe at a 60-40 split at best, at least for Crowell. Tate ($5,900; 11.8% of your cap) is a mid-rate RB2 against the Oakland Raiders on FantasyScore this week. Crowell ($4,000; 8%) is worth consideration at flex, but there are better options unless he's going to have a larger role. West was benched last week and may not even dress.
